  1. Ok, so I learned how to post a load order... here's what I have from wrye bash. You guys see any problems? Active Mod Files:
  2. @MShoap13: Yes, I've doubled checked and that file is no where in the data/textures folder at all (I indexed the location and searched through *all* the files, just to be sure). There is no file with the name "tamriel" under textures at all, is there supposed to be one by default? I'm wondering if I accidentally overwrote and/or deleted a critical file. If not, then I guess I've reached a dead end on that front. @insanityman: I did in fact use OBMM for archive invalidation (actually, I know of no other way to accomplish this - I'm still quite new to the process). You mentioned this can cause problems in rare cases... when that happened to you, how did you learn that this was the cause, and how did you fix it? Thanks for the responses. [edit] I forgot to mention, that although rebooting the computer worked the first time my Oblivion was crashing, that method no longer works. My Windows doesn't lock up at the loading screen like it did the first time, but does lock up upon attempting to load a save or start a new game after CTD (even with fastexit running).
  3. Sounds good, I will have to look into that. Thanks for taking the time to look it up for me, gonna see if I can give you one of the kudos/karma things. [edit] Well... I *tried* to give you a +kudos, but got this instead... Guess the website is still having growing pains atm. Well, either way, know that I appreciate it.
  4. - Restarted my computer, that seemed to fix the issue - Tried to install "Dynamic Map" via OBMM instead hoping to have better luck. I was able to play the game without a crash on the first try, but the mod didn't work (map looked like vanilla). Exited the game, updated archive invalidation, attempted to play again, and now I get CTD. - Removed Dynamic Map, I still get CTD. - Tried backing up/deleting oblivion.ini (as MShoap13 suggested), no change. I have a feeling I might have a load order issue, but I read the descriptions/readme and didn't seeing anything that conflicts with these mods. In fact, at least one of the mod's author's stated that *nothing* should conflict with them. So far, I've successfully installed all of FCOM and a few other mods... I didn't experience any problems like this prior to installing these map mods.
  5. I remember goofing off, fighting against the imperial guards, then going to another section of the city and all of a sudden my bounty was gone and they liked me again... it's funny how the bugs in this game stand out more than anything else (at least off the top of my head).
  6. I believe the mod called "Colored map icons", found here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4481 Has broken my Oblivion, the mod is very old (mid 2006) and the author never updated or replied to any comments on it. The latest comment as you will see is someone reporting the exact same behavior (although in his case, apparently watching some anime and waiting a bit made the issue resolve itself, no such luck here). There are no uninstallation instructions, the entire readme is below. The mod adds 3 .dds files to textures, it was a simply drag and drop, no wrye bash, no omod, etc. Right after pasting the files into said directory, the game crashes/hangs at a black screen, not even a CTD, I have to ctrl+alt+del to regain control of windows. I then created an OMOD for and subsequently installed "elven map redux" found here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3002 Thinking that its textures might overwrite (and hence, fix) the problem files in question, no dice, I keep encountering the same crashes. So, I then remove/delete the elven map OMOD, and the files from "colored map mod" hoping that would fix the issue and get me back in the game... again, no such luck. I took at look at my DVD to see if by chance I could access those folders to restore any stock files I deleted during this mess and I can't open the compressed files. :wallbash: I tried running BOSS, it doesn't report any problems (which I expected, seeing how there were no installers/.esp files, etc.) So, at this point, am I screwed? Is there any way out of this mess that doesn't require reinstalling the game? :ohdear:
  7. I looked through all the option keys and found I could change the day/night cycle (thanks for pointing me there). But, I couldn't find an option to change spawn rates, any ideas?
  8. I re-downloaded and reinstalled wrye python / wrye bash... problem seemed to resolve itself. Not sure what caused the issue the first time.
  9. It turns out that although I had changed the file name of MMM.bsa, the change didn't stick for whatever reason. I renamed it a second time and the change stuck, and my problem was resolved.
  10. I've already installed FRAN with FCOM and made selections for things like respawn rates and day/night cycle. Now, I want to change those settings (preferably without uninstalling the mod or touching the oblivion.ini file), what is the quickest and easiest way to do this? While I'm at it, I guess I should ask how to do that for MMM/OOO/WarCry as well.
  11. Hi again, noob seeks more help on his journey for Oblivion bliss... I've followed a very in-depth video tutorial on setting up FCOM from the ground up (fresh install). Link: (first of 5 parts) I was very careful to do everything exactly how it was explained in the tutorial (which appeared to followed the guide on the official forums pretty closely) but apparently I did something wrong and I have at least two issues... 1. I'm using 'Alternate Start' to bypass the sewer intro and after choosing my race, backstory, etc. I get a CTD after resting in the cabin bed. I've tried multiple times using different races/gender/class/starting zone/etc. and they all land me at the same CTD (even with fastexit2 installed, and running from OBSE launcher, strangely enough). 2. I disabled Alternate Start, and going through the catacombs right after leaving the jail cell, I started getting a couple "WTF missing mesh" icons. Fortunately, I don't get CTD when alternate start is disabled (might be fastexit2 kicking in, haven't tested that yet). I've run BOSS, and it doesn't give any warnings. I'm having a hard time seeing where I went wrong. I know there is a way to post my load order and other important info, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that, could anyone steer me in the right direction? :psyduck:
  12. I'm attempting to set up wyre bash for Oblivion and am running into some difficulties. I'm running Windows 7 home premium, 64-bit. I see there are several pythons available and I don't know which one to use.. I see there is 2.5.2, 2.7.2, and 3.x.x (I'm pretty sure I need to stay away from 3.x.x because wyre bash wasn't coded for it, or so I've read). I originally installed 2.7.2, and I couldn't get wrye bash to start... if I click on the launcher nothing happens at all (no window, no error, no sound effect, nothing). So, I tried installing 2.5.2 and see if that would change anything, it didn't... still nothing. I have the latest files for wrye bash and wrye python. I'm always running as administrator and my oblivion folder is C:\Oblivion (no UAC troubles). For the wrye bash launcher, in the file type column, it says 'no console', I'm guessing that has to do with the problem, but I have no idea what caused it or how to fix it. So far, the only things I have installed are the main game, SI, all DLC's, and the official and unofficial patches for all of them (with the exception of the unofficial patch supplementals, I found the installation readme unhelpful and confusing, which is why I wanted to use wrye bash in the first place). I haven't installed any other mods, or used any other tools (BOSS, OBSE, etc.) I've already been to the wrye bash website instruction page for help and didn't find anything useful there either (I just found it to be very confusing). Any ideas? :wallbash:
  13. Well... I feel like a complete idiot... probably gonna get a few flames just for admitting this, but I don't want anyone to have to waste their time hunting down a ghost in the machine when there isn't one... Turns out there are 3 discs with the anniversary edition... (not merely 2 that I stated earlier) one was hidden under all the paper materials that came with the game and I didn't see it. Although I'm clearly a dummy for not being more thorough... it still would have been nice if the error message had stated "Wrong disc. Please insert disc 1." or something to that effect. I have successfully installed the game now and am able to play apparently without issue (although I quit after meeting the emperor in the jail cell). My apologies for a needless ghost hunt, thanks again for your replies and attempts to assist me. [edit] It looks like someone beat me to the punch for mentioning the 3rd disc, thanks MarkInMKUK.
  14. Oblivion doesn't like to be uninstalled this way, it wants to use the uninstall on the original CD - which doesn't really uninstall everything. I have seen a very high rate of success with people using my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure. It looks like you hit most of the points that It addresses. one of the tricks is to reboot after removing Oblivion, and BEFORE running the registry cleaner. Then immediately reboot again afterwards. As far as I know, KOTN does not add any new registry entries (could be wrong on this though) However, I do think that SI does modify some. Using a registry cleaner should get them though. ( I recommend ccleaner) Another idea, is it possible that the disk is mislabeled and is actually the SI/Knights add on disk? If so, you may have a defective Oblivion disk. Looks like I'm a little to late for the correct uninstall method (using the built in one, instead of programs and features), hopefully this won't cause a permanent issue. As far as using CCleaner, I've already used it to clean my registry, but I'm still getting the error message. I have the 5th Anniversary Edition, and I checked the other disc (disc 1 of 2), which appears to only have media files on it ("the making of..." and such), there does not appear to be any setup or instillation files on the first disc. Disc 2 seems like it should have all the data on it, but as I've said, it keeps giving me this blasted error message. I'm currently running a defrag and optimization program to see if that works ("smart defrag"), but I'm not holding out much hope at this point. What else should I try?
  15. Hi all, first time poster here... I'm having a *very* frustrating time with Oblivion... Sorry for the long post, lots of details I needed to include. Also, I'm aware of the sticky topic that addresses this very issue, however the actual information that the OP says he obtained from a family member to fix it, is a link to another thread, that apparently is a broken link (only re-directs to a list of different Bethesda boards, no actual info available). A couple months ago (June), I installed my Oblivion Collector's Edition on my new PC. I did this to test the game and see if it would play nice with a Windows 7, 64-bit setup. I was able to play fine, no problems. I gathered up a bunch of mods from TESNexus for when I was ready to really sink my teeth back into the game (I was waiting for the 5th Anniversary Edition), and then un-installed it using the "programs and features" in the control panel without an error message or any other apparent problem. Fast forward two months later, I've bought the Oblivion: 5th Anniversary Edition, and gave the old copy to a friend of mine. When attempting to install my new copy of the game tonight (freshly opened, the disc is pristine), I get the following error message: "Unable to find your Oblivion installation. Please reinstall Oblivion." I've already have read multiple threads on different forums (including this one) and have tried the following to no avail (in the following order, if I remember correctly): - Force a manual install, instead of using autorun - (didn't work) - Checked again under the programs and features option of the control panel, Oblivion is not listed there. - Deleted the Oblivion folder under [...]/my games/Bethesda (I think that was the path) - (didn't work) - Used CCleaner to clean up the registry (didn't work) - Used "Advanced System Care 4" to also clean up the registry (still didn't work) - Manually Deleted all Oblivion/Bethesda registry keys using regedit (they were located under the "local_machine/software/wow6432node/Bethesda" path - there was no folder directly under [...]/software - (still didn't work) - rebooted my PC - (still didn't work) - Disabled all other running programs (still didn't work) Other info: I am the only computer user, and am always logged in as Administrator. The strange thing is, when I receive this error it appears that the disc is attempting to install the SI and Knights of the Nine, instead of the standard game. I get no options to choose anything, it begins the install-shield and gives me the error right away, everytime. I'm guessing there separate registry keys for them, that are located elsewhere? If so, I couldn't find them. Machine specs (in case it matters): Windows 7 64-bit (only Windows OS that has ever been on this PC) 3.4 GHz Quad-core AMD CPU 8 GB of Ram 2 TB Hard Drive (currently 1.2 TB free space) ATI 6870 Video card (1 GB video ram) I have no other Bethesda games installed on my computer, Oblivion is the first and only. I have a very large number of mods (approx. 150) that are kept in a folder on my desktop, but I don't see how that could possibly interfere with the setup. Back in June, when I was testing the game on my new PC/Win 7 I also used a no-dvd crack because I was annoyed at the noise my DVD player would make during gameplay, and constantly have to hunt down the disc every time I wanted to play. Again, I don't see how that could cause a problem now, but thought I'd mention it. At this point, I have no idea how to further troubleshoot the issue... any assistance is appreciated.
