  1. With normal difficulty and no additional second wave options i would totaly agree. Of course, xcom is "just a game" and it doesnt need to have realistic values. But thats i want to make a mod. I want to increase the feeling, fight aliens is just not a "game". What i realy miss in xcom, is the feeling this is a "war" and not a "kick all aliens butt play". When i played xcom the first time on normal without second wave, i reached a mid game status where i just started rushing through the missions, killing everything very easy without realy caring about tactis nor money spending. I only used 4 assault soldiers and 2 snipers. Who cares support and heavy weapons if you just run in front of them end just shoot them down easily. This kind of "rushing" was realy crap and after a few missions i was bored and pissed about the missions. I had a time in this game, i just wanted to skip all missions. And also fighting ET Ufos was a joke. The firestorm is much to powerful and with a good weapon u will just finish everything off without taking critical damage. I want to make the game much more deep, more stratetic, more war, more money planning, more difficulties in fighting ufos. I realy exploited the strength of the assault class and snipe class. Thats why i used perk roulette when i played Xcom EW. My big hope was, that the Exalt troops will increase the tactical gameplay. Well thats true but the missions are very easy too and i still miss a challenge. Of course you can switch on higher difficulties but the game will just become more difficult in a way which is to simple minded. Aliens having more hp, more will, more accuary and do more damage is just not a solution for me. This is kinda boring and unfair. In my opinion, a game should become more difficult by changing the AI to use more skills, and use their skills more wisely. There must be more influencing in gameplay. Well maybe ur a badass in missions, ok why not making ufo fights more difficult too? This is my goal i want to reach. Changing the difficulty in my way and not the way im forced to do by the game itself. Im not an average stupid "press one button" mobile phone gamer. I want Xcom, not Xrush! (Who says, a game like Xcom shouldnt be influenced by other tactical round based games like jagged alliance?I say, get what u can to make ur game more qualitative) Changing the currency is just the basics of my mod. Of course i will think of balancing it to make it work fine with a good playing gameplay. I dont want my fighters have to cost some hundred millions of dollars. But i want to change a lot, telling everything i plan on would take a while :laugh: Im testing the scaling out a bit, but one main part should also be, that soldiers die very often and iron man should be set. So more Soldiers will "realy" die. And of course, the should lose all their equip. And if a titan dressed soldier will die, you realy should sit there and be sad and feel like to wanna cry :laugh: Using captured aliens and dead aliens as an own ressource for gene mods and be able to get more other benefits, it will give u more choices what you wanna do in missions. If you just try to wipe em out from distance to ensure your soldiers wont die every mission, if you may risk a shorter distance to capture aliens. You may wanna cover your soldiers with the arc thrower by using smoke grenades. It is all up to you. The "normal" prices for stuff is based on a game where you do not use iron man, that is why i have to change. If your soldiers die a lot, they just cant cost 10 and ur fighter 40 (on normal) thats stupid. And of course i dont want unlimited stuff like the alien grenades become after researching. Also if possible, i want to change the frag grenades beeing buyable and limited. If your soldiers lose their stuff, maybe your soldier "only" costs 5000 but the equipment will cost more. So you wont give ur rookies the best stuff. If i change the scale that would be possible, but not perfect. However i scale it, there is always a fixed difference of 255. If my flash grenade costs 1000 as lowes price, the fighter can cost 255.000 at max. But thats s*** i dont want a fighter cost 250000 and a grenate 1000 maybe i want the grande cost 500 and the fighter 200000 i dont know but the firestorm should cost over a million and again i have the same problem i had before. The scaling wont help that much. And i want to avoid your abling to exploit the alloys you get if you sell them via black market. If the scale is to high, u will become to rich in no time. So balancing it of course will need time, BUT i dont want to be forced to the lowest and max limits of my possible costs. But by the way. I will test out if it is possible to change the scale and let items cost <1 so maybe 0.5. Lets see what happens if it works, i will let you stay up to date Anyway, i want to change all upk stuff for my curiousity and maybe i want to do different mods i could need it for. Edit: I changed ITEM_CREDIT_BALANCE=1000 in the dgc.ini I balanced all the costs before too so the mosts costs are insanely high now. But there was an interresting bug i found out. My biggest scares are about the blackmarket will become op so i checked what i would get for my stuff. The valuas in the BM are the ones i made FE (not balanced of course) But the money i realy get is scaled. Change all Offset positions of all following entrys. 4908DA-4908DE How may i solve this situation? And thanks ami ur Tipp was great. The costs of my Mec-1 was also changeable. But i dont know how the engineers influence the costs. I think this is very bad because the item will become cheaper in the late game and if the costs for the Mec-1 are too high, they are to expensive at the beginning, and to cheap in the late game :/ (its important for my mod because it is more a "real War" mod where soldiers and mecs die much more often, if the mec1 is to cheap, it is kimba OP later) If i decide to Wghosts UPK Patch or UPKmodder i could need a little tutorial just basics i need, to not make thousands of mistakes with item sizes, formation or whatever. I think i can handle the code and the functions if i try. Does your program (UPKmodder) automatically change all the links of the hexes? If i change the whole upk, the toolbooks mods wont work anymore will they? I guess just comparing the size and just highering the offsets wont work. My main problem is i have difficulties to find all the informations myself because i dont much know about what all this stuff is called :laugh: UE Explorer is s*** anyway :ohmy: a program where all objects and functions will be able to hyperlink the informations and i can click on it and will automatically navigated where the object is used would realy help a lot. Well but im still wondering how all it works. When i use UE i can READ only the whole composite of functions, objects and their values etc. But, of course, i cant change anything. If i use the extracter i can sepparate the UPK in lots of different files. For example i want to open and edit unpacked/XComStrategyGame/XGTechTree/BuildGeneTechs.Function But well i dont know which program is able to open it. After a long time looking for hints i tried out different ways. I started your UPKmodder tool to find out how much i can handel it. So far so well my first problem was, that i dont know how you created the upk_mod files. But even if i could, i checked your example upk mod files. Your code is a mixture of hex and variables or however it is called :laugh: I see some if commands but no end or end else or whatever and i dont understand when, why and how you found out what exactly you have to put in as hex code. This is my first problem. Well just opening an uncompressed UPK file edit everything like i want and compress/bake or compile or whatever it again would be to easy :pinch: Ok unreal engine is hex based thats fine, but hexes are numbers only, how can you get information about when does a code starts and when a value? I have to many knowledge lacks but there must be a way to get into it. Well if it would be possible just changing the code you wold do. So how can i write code, get the code i wrote as hex, and then i could maybe find out where to place it. This cant be as difficult as it seems to be, somehow all of you have learned it too :laugh:
  4. First i thought selling Meld would be lame. But well if a player neither like mecs nor genemods it would be a good alternative. A mod where all manufacturable items can be sold increases the playingstyles possible so i realy like the idea. With a higher time costs it would be possible to earn money by manufacturing and selling. This would make the game more strategic. I also always wondered, where the Council Item requests and their payment are located. I like the idea of sell stuff on request and getting paid. If it is panic depending like requests are much more frequent with higher panic would be great too. I hope i can use these ideas for my own mod too someday. I also wanna change the requesting items to alien ressources too. Maybe france wanna have also a living sectoid for their own researches. So selling it by request could decrease panic and/or give you alot money. The more difficult it is to capture an alien with arc thrower, the higher should be the reward.

  7. Ah *facepalm* i forgot :laugh: Yeah it works! Very great But still questioning how i can use values>255 and how i can implenet aliens as a ressource. Of course an alien ressource need to change UI too but that could be done in a later status.

  9. Thank you very much for all your help. I did as u recommended and with the latest version of UE i was able to find out. I just wrote a toolbooks script for the latest tb version. But i havent change ANYTHINg yet so i didnt test it neither. Because i have a new problem i need to solve somehow. My problem is, that the Hex values do only allow values 0-255 But i wanna change the costs for example 40.000$ How may it be done? I also thought of using the ressources of dead and alive captured aliens. Should be possible somehow, because the techs also check if there are dead or alive aliens available. I maybe need to edit the obj type and the function. But for that purpouse i dont know what program i should use for. Any good tips? (Damn it would be amazing, hunting more aliens with the throw would be realy make big sense then. You could need an alive sectoid commander for the brain upgrades and a muton for chest upgrades and maybe it works for mechs too.   10. Ok i have HxD but how do i find out which offset i have to use and which hexes? It sounds kinda simple how all talk about but my knowledge is about...learning by doing :laugh:
  11. Hey thanks thats great this must be it i am sure. How can i altering it? I cannot directly change the values so i switched to view tokens. I hoped there are coordiantes or the offset or whatever but i dont know how to change anything.   12. alsooooooooooooooooooo very luckily im genious and a very fast learner :laugh: I read about how to edit the upk files. I found a decompressor and am now using the Unreal Explorer. So first step done. First time but i get into it :laugh: I think this part checks if the soldier i wanna put into gene labs can be modified (if tech is available) and then it checks all the information who are needed. Is there a list what kind of ressources there are else? Well however i still need to find this kTech.icas and kTech.imeld stuff and maybe kTech.ePerk If you have any tipps i can increase my workingspeed by changing the way i think, feel free to tell me. I only programmed some CNC stuff but this is a huge difference. Damn sh1t this makes fun i feel like solving some kind of puzzle.   13. Maybe i verbalized bad. Im not talking about changing perks to RandomPerks=ePerk_ in the dgc.ini When i use second wave options for the perk roulette most perks are always random. With 3 perks it would be badass in combination of course. I could just let the original perk tree "stay alive" but add a random perk every lvl up fe. (i like most of the original perks, i just want to do more little changes)
  14. Im not familiar with hex editors nor all the other programs you are using. Toolbooks is the easiest programm and it is the only one i am abtle to implement all this upk modifications yet :confused: Well as i understand how toolboks work, it is some kind of automaticaly compress and decompressing hex edit. I was able to change older mods or create an own by collecting all needed infos. But i miss the infos i need for your scrollbar :sad: Could you tell me which upk was edited and maybe the offset for the hex changes? would be great! Edit: ehm was talking about the bar for the itemslots
  15. They are some grenade type anyway. Is it possible to change them as an equipable item maybe? Would be great if ur still have your passive perks work with them too. It should be some kind of "equipable" perk. Maybe a backpack item which grants the ability idk ur the experts :blush:
  16. I used the code for toolbooks from the nexus wikia and changed it to the new toolbooks version. But it wont work for EW.   17. Childish behaviour if you have suggestions you realy should accept, that not everyone is sharing your opinion. Of course everbody has a right to criticize each other. It is nothing personal, sama just wanted to explain ur ideas wouldnt fit with the idea of exalt. But i also think exalt is very weak. Plasma weapons maybe wont be "logical" but it would be better for the difficulty and the gameplay. I guess the developers thought about too, but they maybe didnt want the players to farm all the plasmaweapons instead of buying them. I think exalt missions need to be much more tactical than "Alienhunting" missions, where you just go ahead and rape out everything you see. The missions of exalt are just like take and hold, nothing realy special. Step by step triggers for more flexible missions would be great like you get a task like defusing a bomb but when ur finished the mission is not over yet. Instead you will get another task. These different tasks can be randomized a bit. Maybe stealing ideas of games like counter strike or call of duty or other tacitcal games is a good idea too. Changing the vanilla perk tree is very easy by editing the dgc.ini But i havent found a working mod which implements more possible perks. Maybe my searching skills are to bad. btw is it possible to change which perks are random and which not? I would like you can choose between one fixed perk and another randomized.

Here my UI bugs: i can rotate to the left for more Player selections but there are no letters for "+add soldier" (or however it is called in the english version of xcom) but if i press, a edit player section pops up where i can change the weapons or individual settings. But there is no choose soldier menu or remove soldier button. Also all the soldiers are bugged somehow. But if i remove a soldier from the working spaces and add a new one, i can see which soldiers are still active and which will be used in combat. That is very helpful. I bet there are many people who could find out in notime ^^ I already tried to find hints by using the search bar but no matches :( If i didnt guessed wrong and it might be a property of a perk or something, i realy could need help. I have no idea how to handle it. And it is VERY important for my balancing. A Soldier costs 5000$ and a titan armor 300.000$ (I also play on iron man and with item loss if soldiers die to make the high end equippement more rare and special) nobody would care about using soldiers anymore.

  24. Hi there, im working on a mod and i want to have a realistic currency ingame. I realy disliked you have to pay 10 "dollars" for a soldier, but 40 dollars for a jet. The jet is just 4 times more expensive than a soldier... And i also disliked the amount of costs. A Jet should cost a million dollars. So i reworked ALL prices for nearto everything EXCEPT Mec and Genemod upgrades. I dont know where the costs are located i checked all ini files but it seems to be located anywhere else. Would be great if anyone knows where (and maybe if it is complicate to change how) to change it? my first mec should cost about 40.000$ I also thought of changing meld costs too. I would also realy like the idea of paying for skills of the soldiers but that must be complicated to change. (I just guess the gene mods and mecs are perks to so maybe it is possible, and maybe it is the reason why the costs for it are not located in the ini files. Maybe i have to change the entire perk but i never did. I dont even know how to do) I am very impatiand btw :laugh: thx for help
