    A Nord being "racist" to a Breton would be the real-life equivalent of a human being racist to a chimpanzee.

     

    Both Nords and Bretons are sentient and sapient on the same basic level, so it's not an accurate comparison. I think you could compare a Nord being a racist to a Breton to a human being racist to a sentient alien*, which is another form of Fantastic Racism in fiction. In many sci-fi, however, enmity towards sentient aliens is considered to be bad, unless these aliens have clearly hostile or warlike intentions.

     

    Fiction derives its impact from both parallels and differences from the real world, after all.

     

    Not that Skyrim is that xenophobic, anyway. I agree that Stormcloak bigotry is quite minor and vague, in order to make them more bigoted you have to resort to mods or headcanon.

     

    *albeit to an alien with whom humans can have kids, and who basically look like humans, anyway.

     

    Now that I mention it, the large difference between human and elf lifespans in TES could be a reason for more than superficial difference between races, but it's very much downplayed in TES writing.

  2. Why do people always have such problems having a stable game? Are they installing overhauls upon other overhauls? I have no trouble having a stable game... then again, my modlist is probably smaller compared to the people who have such severe issues.

    That's not exactly true. They have mentioned that things like new worlds and quests are acceptable things to submit to the Creation Club.

    Even when these mods were largely developed by one person, they still had to hire voice actors. Will Bethesda provide the voice actors for all the localization languages and the translators necessary to localize all the text? Their page says that the CC content is fully localized, after all.

In my dream, the Bannered Mare owner kept a plate of Human Flesh below the counter... when I confronted her about it, she viciously answered that I will regret it if I attack her or report her to someone. Then I launched the UESPwiki and saw that nothing will happen if you reply, "sorry, ma'am, I am just acting according to my nature" and walk away, but if I tell her she must pay for her crimes and kill her, my in-game spouse will die soon, and a bunch of characters, including Ysolda, will hate me (despite Ysolda inheriting the Bannered Mare).

     

    I also remembered killing both her and the small green Daedra in armor that was inside her body, and then having to hide the Human Flesh ingredients in water ponds of Skyrim.

     

    That's certainly a plot twist.

  6. Yep, modded Skyrim is awesome, but eventually, it's natural to tire of all games. When some of today's mods-in-the-works get released, it may be worth checking the game more thoroughly again. Until then, there exists plenty of other stuff to waste your time on.

I confess that I don't own Fallout 4, but it is amusing to read people praising the characters and the multitude of quests in Skyrim, since the consensus of the overall gaming public is that the Skyrim characters are flat and its quests uninspiring. (Only mostly agree with this, but I would also add that there're too few quests in vanilla Skyrim as well). I think that with official DLC's and proper mods Skyrim is one of the best games ever, but it took some time to get there from vanilla.

     

    Obviously, that doesn't apply to people who were disappointed with Skyrim, as well... but is Fallout 4 really that bland and contentless?

  8. They have names like Imperial Bracers (Elven Glided Armor, Orcish Armor, etc) of Minor Destruction (Major Conjuring, Minor Alchemy, etc). Pretty sure I occasionally found stuff like that in dungeon boss chests.

  9. Bretons are more French-like, although in Skyrim Bethesda introduced some non-French names and the Reachman Breton separate ethnic sub-group with Celtic names. Still, if you want to emphasis the medieval aspects, Bretons are a good flavour-wise chose, especially since they do have knights and petty landholdings and such in High Rock.

  10. Try identifying the dragons' first two ID numbers with the help of console (open the console and click on one of them). These first two numbers signify the load order number of the mod.

True, although I still think they could've done much better (a couple of mods manage to do it just fine, and I actually think that Bethesda did a great job with the Dragonborn expansion - at least, its main quest and sidequests actually had an emotional effect on me the way few things in vanilla Skyrim did). As of now, I'd give Beth a B- on vanilla Skyrim storytelling (A- on Dragonborn, though - apparently, the more restricted landmass of the expansion allowed them to express their concepts slightly deeper, at least, to me).

    But those storylines tend to only be simple on the surface. Skyrims main quest is about a big evil Dragon returning right? Ooh, how original, you say. Until you learn the context, that Alduin exists to end the world and stop it from spiraling out of control, to reset time to prevent disaster.

    This doesn't really have any effect on the way things progress, though. True, it's acknowledged by the Greybeards, but for all storyline intents and purposes, Alduin is an evil-want-to-destroy-the-world-bwahaha dragon. A lot of Skyrim setting has potential, but doesn't really deliver on the promises.
