  1. A mod where you can raise armies?

I know that there is a mod where you can become a count, I was wondering if you could have wars between the counts? Any mods out there like that?

The only mod I know where you can become a count is Kvatch Rebuilt. However, there is no war between counts.

Try looking through David Brasher's modlist for a war mod though. He had one that mimicked a war between two castles that you can participate in, and it's repeatable.

Just fyi, an example of a texture path in nifskope would be: "Textures\MOO\Armor\Daedric Lord\daecuir.dds".

I can't seem to do that. Textures only show up if I have it with the \data\ before the \meshes and \textures directories. That shouldn't be a problem though should it? Everyone has the same structure with the \data folder before their meshes and textures as far as I know...

Nifskope will auto set the texture path for you as long as the source folder is registered in nifskope. To do this click on "Render/Settings/Add Folder" and then "Folder" to navigate to your mod folder...making sure to select the folder which actually contains the meshes and textures for your mod. So for example if your mod folder has a "Data" folder inside which in turn holds meshes and textures, you would want to navigate to the data folder. Now every time you assign a texture to one of your meshes nifskope will auto crop the texture path to start with just "textures".

This is one thing that really matters...if your texture path starts with anything other than textures...people who download your mod will have problems.

Oh wow! Neat tip! As long as I've been modding, I never knew that. Thank you for sharing that info.

  3.

They got tired of people stealing their work and have since put their files on hidden status, only letting select individuals download them. An author can put their files on hidden status that way here at the Nexus.

I wonder where that one's coming from though. If you hide a mod page, it's hidden for everybody, and while you can restrict a certain group of people from accessing your mod page, you cannot restrict access to your mod page to only a certain group of people. That's against the rules and one should rather use a file share host for private sharing like this. It's along the same line as encrypting one's mod file upload with a password. These files will be removed in no time, and in case of repeated infriction despite previous warnings disciplinary actions will be taken against the uploader's account as well. So I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. :ermm:

The people I'm refering to no longer have their mods here, but at one point in time they did and would either open it up very briefly to allow public download or give individuals editing access. There was a point on the nexus files that you could grant permission to others to edit files.

  4.

For Lonewolf Kai: If you hide them like that, it means that you never wanted them to be public. You wanted just selected individuals to enjoy your work. That's fine, if you ask me. But that is different by uploading it on tes nexus and pretending no one will ever touch it - you are making it public and there is a chance someone will tweak it and republish it - not on tes nexus, of course. Maybe somewhere else. Well, whatever.

After all, you've got your own idea and I doubt I can make you change it! Good modding

Ah, but you're forgetting that the mod may have been originally intended for public use ... until it started getting abused. And the authors I'm talking about are exactly here on the Nexus and this was the case with them. They got tired of people stealing their work and have since put their files on hidden status, only letting select individuals download them. An author can put their files on hidden status that way here at the Nexus.

Didn't Saiden Storm ask for his Akatosh Mount mod to be removed after he left the site? You can still find it with a quick Google search though.

Yes he did, and those found on other sites are probably done without his permission. That being said, I believe he had also given permission to some individuals to use his assets. It's also quite possible someone may have gotten permission to upload it themselves as well.

  6. I cannot understand the continued debate over the uploading of copyright material since the Terms of Service is very specific about this.

"The posting of any copyrighted material, unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material, is strictly prohibited on any Nexus site."

    and

"Absolutely no copyrighted work is to be used without permission of the original creator"

    and

"All files uploaded must have been created by the uploader or used with permission from the original author of the content"

Irregardless of the country in which you reside, these are the Terms of Service of this site and the same Terms of Service you agree to abide by when you create an account to use the site.

Well what Kemipx, and Sergio to a lesser degree, is point out is what if people take mod resources without the author's permission anyways and upload it on another website anyways. Who's going to enforce such rules then on sites outside of Beth/Nexus controls? The rules on this website and other similar are very clear as you point out, but what happens when someone goes beyond those boundries? We know what happens here, but what about those other sites? A specific example is being asked for by Kemipx.

There is no point on hiding your mods - truth is that I truly doubt that someone would take credit for the work you've made - in that case I fully agree with you.

    But if someone tweaks a mod I don't see where is the big deal - the truth is that after all, if you published a mod you did so to make other people enjoy your work;

it is true that you deserve recognition for that and maybe also to get contacted everytime someone use your work, but if you disappeared, I doubt in the end you care about what is going to happen.

In the end is up to the user - just do not steal other work and I think it's all ok - if you tweak stuff just release the tweaked stuff without the main resources - that should be ok.

Actually, there could be a use to hiding mods. To share them with select individuals only, which really is a shame if you ask me. There is one author that does this that comes to mind.

I can agree though that if an author truly cares about their work they'll be sure to take care of it.

  7. Good to see there's a great sense of justice around the world.

Anyways, mod and mod resource stealing unfortunately does occur all the time. And that's why there's several authors, some of whom I know, take down or hide their mods in order to prevent such theft. And this author is also thinking of doing it as well.

  8. The NMM is a manager for "multiple" games. NEVER put it into the Data folder of "one" of them. It belongs into its own folder outside of any games, just as its "mods" folder belongs outside of any games.

And I can copy Lonewolf's statement. The NMM does not understand the packaging and folder structures of 90% of the Oblivion mods uploaded here.

They can all be made compatible, of course, and I was doing it with every single mod I downloaded so far, but it isn't something I'd advise for starters to do.

It involves programming multiple-choice modular installation scripts in XML, and even to me is mostly 'unknown territory' still.

All those mods will present the "Download with manager" buttons on all files, but ONLY because it was made the default choice for all mods already uploaded ages ago, and their authors so far never came back to deactivate it.

Oh wow, I never knew an author can deactivate those! I'll be sure to do that for my mods.

  9. I have Windows Vista for my current PC.

Years ago, I played Oblivion on this PC. I can't afford to upgrade the PC so I can play Skyrim on it, so I instead have resolved to purchase Oblivion again to consol myself. According to the tracking number, it's set to arrive in the mail later today.

I remember, last time I played Oblivion on this Vista OS, that I had to install it in some folder other than the default "Program Files," or else I couldn't use any mods that I didn't create myself with the Construction Set.

But... that's all I know. I know to NOT install it in "Program Files." I know what NOT to do.

But... I don't know what TO do.

Where should I install it? And in what folder should I put the mods I download?

As simple as it is, that's it. Just don't install it in any of the Program Files and you're good to go. I'd recommend making a folder just for your games, like C:\Games. WHen the installation wizard asks you where to install it, change it to what you want.

  10.

Make a back up of your game directory, i ran into so many problems when i started modding my 2nd playthrough

after what i went thru id recommend prepping your pc for an os reinstall if you decide to get into modding

my modding problems broke my pc setup so bad i couldnt get the game to do anything but crash regardless of using backups of data directories, complete reinstalls of all software, setting multiple restore points that didnt fix the problem, and hour after hour after hour of reading

im surprised im the only one ive seen so far that had such a severe problem but it really did happen that way for me. freakin nightmare scenario fo shore

I don't think Modding Oblivion had to do with having to reinstall OS.

  11. I'm currently playing an Imperial male, and I really, really hate his combat voice sounds - "raah!" "EEEEHA!" Just grating on the nerves.

I would like to replace them with custom sounds.

I have a general idea about BSA archives and unpacking, but where would I find these files? And under which folder and subfolder would I place the new files... and what would I name them?

    Many thanks!

LOL! I had the same exact issue, except it wasn't necessarily that the sound itself that was annoying, but the decibel level!! I play the rest of the sounds low that it's audible only in the room but as soon as I did a power move it be would like a bomb went off in the house. EEEHA!!!

I actually just turned off my character's power moves off. Would this might be something you'd be interested in doing?

EDIT: I just went ahead and found the mod I used to do it. It's here: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/5429

  12. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I really just need the question answered as asked

Oh I get it. Just shut up and answer the question then, right? Ok. Your answer = don't use NMM for Oblivion. It has too many bugs with how the Oblivion engine works in regards to Mods. If you want to continue using it, by all means do so, but I don't think you're going to find someone who uses both NMM and WyreBash.

And just for information, you need WyreBash to create the Bash Patch which makes a lot of mods play nice together. So more than likely when a mod says it needs WyreBash, it's probably because of this.

  13. I installed Darnified UI. And I think I did it wrong. I did it through OMM but it just went orange and I couldnt figure out what to do so I just launched oblivion. My game looked like this http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=237470932 and I couldnt click anything. I completely removed Darnified from my computer and OMM but it continues to be like that. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated :ninja:

If you are playing Oblivion through steam, there's a few extra steps you have to do in order for it to work with mods. Unfortunately, I don't know the details.

  14. Is there a mod that adds the option of toggle-able alteration shield spells? It annoying to have to recast all of the time.

I think one of the magic overhaul mods do that. Either Less Annoying Magicka Experience (LAME) or Supreme Magicka. I can't remember which one though.

  15. I was actually going to re-upload the 1.9 version of Akatosh Mount. I asked on both the official Bethsoft forums and here about why it had been taken down but got no information on it, and some how I missed that 2012 thread about it. The copy I have of Akatosh Mount came from TESNexus when it was up and mentions nothing about the use of it and it's contents.

Glad I haven't found the time to re-upload it!

EDIT: I can't even find his profile on here anymore. I guess he deleted it too?

  16. Hey everyone.

A long time ago I remember downloading a mod that allows player and NPCs to use shovels, scythes and other mundane items as weapons. Maybe (and just maybe) it was a big mod that messed with combat animations, like Deadly Reflexes or UV, but i'm not sure.

Anyway, I remember to see Glarthir with a scythe on his back and it was pretty cool

I'm not sure if it's one mod that only does this (which would be better) or if this is just a part o a bigger mod, but I'd be thankful if anyone could help me.

Tried to search here and on google, but couldn't find it and I didn't like the mods that adds scythes :\

Also, any suggestions about mods with new weapons would be appreciated. I know there's a lot, but a feedback about conflicts is very much appreciated.

    Was this the mod perhaps?

    http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/9664

Also, check out Universal Violence 3, that's one that adds some good combat stuff similar to what you're thinking.

As for weapon suggestions, well there's a LOT of weapons out there. I'd just browse through the weapons category and see if there's something you like.
