  1. I'd contradict what Vin said about GW2, but OP has already expressed he has no interest in it. So there's no point, other than to say, most of those points of the post aren't correct. However, the ONE thing I will agree is that the annoying thing to me is the temporary 2 week content. I wish they'd get rid of that crap.

  2. As I said, don't tell me, bring it to Vorians and Ismelda.

But I can tell you there's nothing in lore that contradicts naming in BBC. I see no where that what they used "can't" be used.

Also, missing info from directions is NOT lore contradiction. It could just as easily be explained that Phintias for example is either ignorant that other stores exist or that he is merely pointing out the more popular ones.

But as I said, don't take this up with me, take it to the mod caretakers . At the very least, bring it to the mod's commenting page here on the Nexus. If you're going to accuse them of slander like this, then you owe it to them to at least defend themselves.

  3. Generally, I'd say yes, it really makes the cities come alive.

However, for those who want to roleplay and follow only 'established' lore, it might be an immersion braker with the lack of voiceovers, and the add-ons to many of the cities contradicting what the guards tell you when asking for directions (cities having added more inns, more bookstores in the IC, etc), and unfortunately some added characters having non-lore friendly names.

I beg to differ on this. There is no conflict to established lore and no voice overs has nothing to do with lore. There is also no name in the mod that contradicts lore at all. Where are you basing this on?

I say prove this to Vorians and Ismelda and you might have a leg to stand on. They are on the Bethsoft forums mostly though, so I'd go there.

  4. My max budget would be around 2500. I know that seems crazy but I want a really good computer that I can upgrade without buying a new one. Right now I am pretty positive about buying the ODE level 3 on digitalstorm.com.

Oh man, that should get you a monster machine..... IF you buy the parts and either assemble them yourself or take them to someone.

  5. The FPS drop would mainly be due to processor overload. Your GPU should be able to handle that mod load without problems.

I get similar performance to what you're reporting, perhaps slightly faster in the "slow" bits. By comparison, I have a faster processor but poorer graphics cards, especially in the VRAM department - i7-2600K overclocked to 4.5 GHz, 2 X nVidia GeForce GTX 580 with 1.5 GB VRAM.

The GPU's are hardly stressed and the VRAM maxes out occasionally when using QTP3 Redimized (therefore your should have no problems at all). However, one of my processor cores is always maxed out, the second is always over 60% and presumably Oblivion doesn't know how to use the others.

RAEVWD seems to be the biggest killer and will probably have the biggest impact on your FPS.

I dunno Lance, Liquid Water is pretty harsh on the system too, coupled with all the extras he's got as well.

The Oblivion engine absolutely does not use more than one core, even if you're on a quad core system. So yeah,RAEVWD might be the culprit. I had forgotten about that one.

  6. You've got some pretty heavy graphic fixes in there, which include QTP3's and Godrays. That's one of your issues. Another big FPS eater is the water, ESPECIALLY Liquid Water. Water in general, even with vanilla settings, can cause FPS problems because its always rendered even when not visible. This means if water is below the ground, it still gets rendered. I'd take some of those out. Try one at a time at first. I'd start with Liquid Water and then take out Godrays if that still doesn't improve things. Next, try the reduced versions of QTP3.

I'm not seeing any engine related problems, usually ones that add a lot of NPCs in, so I don't see that as an issue. Have you used the 4gb patch for ram? If you don't use it, the Oblivion engine is limited to 2gbs.

Finally, I'd suggest looking into Oblivion Stutter Remover: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/23208 and use a cell purger like Streamline: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/10400 but don't use the FPS options in Streamline since you're gonna be using OSR.

If you're still not getting improvements, change some of the game settings by turning down shadows and lighting effects from the torches and such.

  7. I played my first time without BetterCities and then later added it. I haven't removed it from my Load Order since. The vanilla cities are terribly bland and BC makes it so much better. Think of BC as a graphical update. The modders intended it to be vanilla friendly, meaning, you won't get balance-affecting changes. Yes, there are a couple quests added.

If you're doubtful, just try it without the mod and then later add it to the game. BC is fairly easy to install. If you do this though, make sure you're inside a building, ie interiors.

I'd also suggest adding Crowded Cities as well. Without that, the cities will look empty.

  8. There's also the option of taking it to a computer shop and letting them assemble it for you if you're not comfortable doing it yourself. It should be a fairly cheap cost. Where I live, they do it for $45. You buy the parts, get them to put it together, and you still come out with a better computer for a better price.

That being said, it is extremely easy to put a PC together yourself. I used to buy pre-built computers too for the longest and then did it myself for my latest computer. It's easier than you think. The only complication I had was an extra fan I wasn't sure where to plug into the motherboard (but I've also got a very "windy" tower that has fans all over it).

If you do go with a doityourself computer, make sure you do yourself a favor and get a quality tower that's nice and roomy.

  9. @Thor ....it's still a console game..... that is EVE Online funding backed. No comparison.

There's also another factor to what could potentinally make this game successful. There's a lot of people from the early MMO generation that are still looking for replacements to their old MMOs, such as DAoC.

  10. I've figured out how to fix most of the NPCs (there are a few stragglers) so it's ok for now. It seems that the 1.2 update for OCO allows for face merging in Bashed Patches, so I simply loaded that after TIE and now OCO takes precedence.

Thanks for the suggestion though; I probably should make a profile at Bethesda's forums at some point...

Sweet and simple. I didn't even think about doing that. Well thought out!

  11. I'll go ahead and tell you I've never played TIE, but I do know about it, and I'm fairly certain a lot, if not all, of those faces were manually done. Oh you could reverse the changes and bring back the vanilla faces, but the only way I know how to do that is by manually fixing them back.... and that will be extremely tedious.

You might be able to do it through TES4Edit, but I wouldn't know how.

I'd suggest you give Bethsoft Oblivion Mod forums a visit and ask this question there. Arthmoor frequents there more than here, and he might have some better insight on how to do this. If you do go there, be sure to inclue TIE and OCO in the title of the thread, or at least the sub title.

  12. I dunno, the $15 per month is pretty common for subscript'ed MMOs.

My biggest hope is that it doesn't allow botting, or more precisely, having two accounts, you're actual playing character and then one that buffs your playing character. That's what happened to DAoC and was one of it's biggest downfalls imo. You HAD to have either your own buffbot (as it was called) or had a friend that buffed you or you were simply ran over.

I seriously hope ESO doesn't allow that.

  13. I am actually ok with it. So many "free to play" games are complete s*** and they nickel and dime you to death for everything...want more bank space? Buy some gems. Want to get more xp? Buy some gems. Want to be able to make another toon? Buy some freaking gems.

I will buy it and try it as my bar for gaming isn't near as high as some folks here and I have been waiting to play with my friends in Tamriel for a long time. I am a RPer at heart and can find fun pretty much anywhere. I don't go through content like my arse is on fire. I take my time and enjoy things. If its a decent game and I play it..it entertains me..then I will pay for it. I mean that is like a saturday night movie ticket anymore. $14 if you played the game and had fun for even 10 hrs a week would be worth it. So I will try it. If I have fun then it is worth the 14 bucks and I am not currently paying for any MMOs at the moment. Usually a sub fee will keep more butts away anyway that just come and play a new game cause they can.

If it isn't fun and I a not enjoying it then I won't play it and won't pay it. Its not like you have to pay months in advance. Besides I pride myself in being willing to try everything once...

Yep, same here. I'm going to at least try it. DAoC was sub based and it was awesome! And having a sub will also help keep the population a little more mature.

Lis, about that last sentence.... :D *wink wink, nudge nudge.

About GW2, I'm not so sure the population on the servers are gone, though I'm sure there has been some reduction since release, but rather there aren't as many players in zones that are lower than 80 leveled. Unless the new content that comes out bimonthly happens to be there.

@billyro, what about those that like both? Oh wait, I know, we're Super Cool, rather than just cool. :p

  14. I suppose you like Lich and necromancer mods as well... you know.... since you necro'd this post.

Kidding aside, Unholy Darkness was actually released. I'm not sure where you can find the mod though.

  15. COuld always just go without voice acting. I've always been okay with mods that don't, but I also understand some people have higher standards.

    Regardless, good luck with it.

What happened to the first Kvatch Rebuilt that came out, the one without the underground parts? It was pretty stable wasn't it?

  16. It's not a bad game, just incredibly shallow. The campaign map is like a basic version of Risk. You can buy structures for your provinces, then you can recruit units in your provinces and then send those units to enemy provinces which initiates the RTS segment of the game. In the RTS segment you build units, then rush to capture expansion points and try to clear the enemy off the map, which wins you the province. The dragon isn't all that great either. You fly around, basically commanding your units while you get to destroy a few enemy units. It feels a bit like a gimmick, to be honest.

It's a very simplistic and, in my opinion, not worth the $40. It feels like it has a lot of potential, but is ultimately let down by a lack of depth.

Sounds like a game you wait for the price to drop down on.... hmmm, maybe like a $10 discount game.

  17. Mods like Gears of War Camera and Ultimate 3rd Person Camera disable the 1st person view. Do you know of any mods that have the same over-the-shoulder sort of view but leave 1st person available too?

I have ChaseCameraMod and Auto 1st-3rd person, and I need the gears of war style to make it worthwhile.

I was reading about Loup Sombre's mod and I think that disables 1st person too. Is it some hard-coded problem that can't be fixed? Oblivion's crappy third person view is as bad as Fallout 3's horrid aim-bot garbage.

Well, if there's any tips or ideas let me know please.

    Thanks

    BOOM! Here you go:

    http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/24147/

Also, if you're using WyreBash, which you pretty much ahve to if you use a lot of mods, forget the ChaseCameraMod. There's an option in the bash patch to fix the camera just like how it does. It'll be one less mod in your load order.
