  1. Since the vast majority of mods for Fallout 3 were made before the Nexus Mod Manager even existed I would recommend not to use it for this game but instead install the mods either manualy or with FOMM if it's possible, be sure to read the installation instructions in the readme of every mod you want to install. For MMM install the 6.1 first and the RC 6.2 patch on top of it, overwriting files if asked the old school manual way, then activate the mod with FOMM, Wrye Flash or any other mod manager once the esm and esp files show in your load order sorting them if necessary.
  2. Deleted the WMK.esp, but I'm still having the same issue. Are there any logs for FO3 that could possibly indicate an error code or something? Had another quick look and I see a Mart's Mutant Mod - Project Beauty.esp but not the Mart's Mutant Mod masters files so deactivate that one also or add Mart's Mutant Mod to your load order, to get something spawning errors while loading your mods I suggest using F03Edit, when a master is missing or an esp is loaded before one it depends on then it gives errors in the right panel as for example: "mod1.esp should be loaded before mod2.esp" or "mod3.esp depends on a missing master file" also FO3Edit is the most useful tool to detect conflicts between mods, but starting to learn it can be difficult, I remember the first time I saw it running I was like "wtf is that wall of text on my screen?" now however it's a must have program for me  Edit: I just noticed the EVE plugins are obsolete also in your load order, you're missing the EVE master file also, so get either EVE installed of get rid of all files with EVE in their title
  3. You have a file EVE-FWE with WeaponModkits.esp, I bet that one depends on the WMK master file and I don't see it in your load order, iow remove this file or add the Weapon Mod Kits mod in your load order and it should be able to launch without ctd. Remember : CTD on startup is 99% caused by a missing master file.
  4. HI all, I'm having a frustrating sound problem with just Bittercup npc, she has lost her voice completely, meaning I get no sound from her, with subtitles on I get the lines she's suppose to say and her lips are moving synchronized with the words, but no sound at all and it's just her. Edit: Her dialogue and sound was working fine in my game, I parked her somewhere as I use the bittercup companion mod and went to get her after more than 30 hours real playtime since I left her to find her mute. Deactivating the companion mod didn't help, she remains mute. The most frustrating is that I had the same problem more than a year ago with another npc and I was able to fix it, but of course I forgot how, I should take frigging notes but I didn't :/ Any idea?
  5. Honestly I'm surprised Fallout 3 even starts with that load order, besides the remarks posters did before me you have for example 3 different weather mods in your load order, that is absolutely unecessary as the last loaded mod wins... and it's like that for every mod that change the same things in the whole game. Getting pink and missing textures is a sign your video card is running out of VRAM and your game is about to crash, like save now or in ten seconds it will be too late. FEM while being a good mod is a memory hog, if you absolutely want it then start merging all the body enablers into one esp file, it will save you esp slots and memory, but frankly all that are just bandages on an amputated leg, you're better off to start from scratch and add mods one at a time, and in the correct load order, then make a merged patch at the end of it
  6. Gunslinger already pointed out you need to learn some GECK tutorials, how to properly align objects and npc's with ground level is contained in the very first basic one, see youtube for some good tutorials. I have a feeling you will become a regular visitor on these boards asking for help as once you have placed your npc correctly there is still a (mega)ton of stuff to learn and far less easy things than placing npc's I'm affraid. Also the GECK is in imho a real pain in the bottom to operate correctly and has the ability to aggravate me very quickly although I am a rather patient person, so you have been warned :)
  7. I love my homes out of the way of busy spots like Megaton, Springvale and Rivet City, those places are already "overmodded" as they are, in fact I can't add all the Springvale mods I'd like to have since there are too many and are causing conflicts between them. So in the DC Ruins is fine, but there you have Solace home in the Mall Area, KOR's Vault in the L'enfant area, THe Ranger Base in Seward Sq area, GNR at GNR plaza and a few others. Out of the busy areas you have the Billionaire Vault, Firefly Ranch, Hunters Ridge, and the Lakehouse at Arefu, there's a mod that adds a house in the Republic of Dave also, then there's the Spartan Ranch inbetween Springvale School and Super Duper Mart. Near Rivet city you have of course the Underground Hideout, The SOL base, and some Submarine Home also, at Canterburry Commons you have the excellent Alpine Heights home so It's a pretty busy wasteland and you're going to struggle to find an unmodded spot as I only mentionned the home mods I remember or use or have used in the past myself and I'm sure there's much more out there still. If I'd have to make one I'd probably pick a spot near vault 92 or Old Olney just to be out of the way of conflicts Edit: At the South side of Old Olney there's the Fort Gigaton home mod, just remembered that one, so you'd want to stay north of Old Olney lol Also, I forgot to specify what homes I like most: Well defended, with npc guards or turrets, preferably both, and that are upgradeable. I prefer homes that are not free to take over but there's a quest involving to gain entrance, I need to feel rewarded when entering a home and not spoiled. Most important things I want in my homes are an armory where I can put my weapons (I really like the Underground Hideout and Alpine Heights display walls) and of course a trophy/display room to display my collection of stuff, I'm a hoarder lol Edit 2: Going to give my top 3 home mods for Fallout 3 to illustrate the stuff I wrote above :) 1) Alpine Heights: plusses: Quest, upgradeable, easter eggs, the perfect size / minusses: some things are very well hidden, in fact I didn't discover everything yet and I use this as my main home 2) Underground Hideout: plusses: small quest, upgradeable, easter eggs, very good layout / minusses: heavy on system ressources, especially when fully upgraded, a tad too small for my taste 3) My Mansion: plusses: has everything you need and more minusses: way too big, I mean you can spend days inside and still don't see everything it has got, since it's so big you can get lost easily.
  8. There's a mod that lets you shoot radios and destroy them here on Nexus, can't remember the name as I merge most small mods into big files but I have it running so everywhere I enter and the radio disturbs me I just shoot it to pieces
  9. I got the GECK running in 8.1, it's in the main Fallout 3 directory, not the data one, in the compatibility tab I had to select Windows 7 and "run as an administrator", then make a shortcut on the desktop and when launching it I right click and select "run as an administrator" again, now it runs perfectly fine as it did in Windows 7
  10. That is the Lady Of Hope Hospital where you took the screenshot isn't it? I have exactly the same problem but in that building only! And yes I use ENB and yes I turned it on and off but it doesn't matter it's always there, that grey wall appearing no matter what... so I'm curious also if anyone knows why?
  11. All right, I made the upgrade from win 7 32-bit to Win 8.1 64bit and I got Fallout 3 to run, well sort of... Sometimes it starts 10 times in a row no problem, sometimes it refuses 10 times in a row lol, fose enabled or not so I can rule that out, UAC enabled or not, so I can rule that out also, so it's the fallout3.exe (patched with the 4gb patch) that crashes sometimes. I remember having had the same problem in Win 7 a loooong time ago and of course I forgot how I fixed it there, so I'm still tweaking/searching/monitoring. All my savegames are still working, my ENB loads ok, my mods load ok, I even got wrye bash and FO3Edit to work also but the GECK doesn't work yet so I guess I'll have to reinstall that one, I just tried running it from within my backup without properly running it's setup so it could be that, I'll have to check that. Fallout 3 itself I reinstalled properly (Win 8.1 complaining it was not compatible when launching setup, but hey who cares lol) and then updated with my backup from the fallout 3 folder I had in Windows 7. And as I wrote it works 1 out of 2 times, I just have to wait sometimes before the program finally wants or is able to run... To be able to run it at all I had to set "run as an administrator" to the fallout3.exe, fakefulscreen.exe and the fose_loader.exe files, also prior to restoring my backup I had the fallout3launcher.exe rebuild my fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini from scratch and then I overwrote them with my backuped copies also, oh yeah and install it not in the program files(x86) folder as the setup program suggested but somewhere else but you had to do that also to be able to run it in Windows 7 so no change there. If I find out what's the cause of Fallout only starting when it wants to instead of always I'll come back and update this post
  12. Hi, I just noticed this thread so I will add to this one instead of creating my own one as I am likely to encounter the same problem and a few others. Currently I am running Windows 7 32 bit with PAE patch enabled and I am going to upgrade to Windows 8.1 64 bit over the course of next weekend or soon thereafter. Since I'm going to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit a clean install from the OS is the only option for me. So this is my plan : I have 3 physical hard disks : Drive 1 has a primary partition C: with Windows 7 on it and the directory program files which contains my anti-virus and business applications. On the same HDD is a secondary partition D: which contains all my game data, the second HDD contains backups and the third one is a small one that I use for emergency recovery only, it contains all system and hardware drivers. - download all 64 bit drivers for my hardware and put them ready for installation on my third HDD (the recovery one) - backup my c: partition entirely to my backup HDD in a system image then install Win 8.1 64 bit and let it clean install itself on the c: partition, it will format it and install itself there. Once that is done, I reinstall all my drivers from the recovery HDD, then my security software and program files and then restore the personalised settings from my backuped old c: partition Now, should I also backup my d: partition which contains all my game files or not? I didn't find anywhere on the net if the 64 bit install will wipe that one also since it's on the same physical disk? Am I forgetting or missing something obvious? And finally same question as poster before me: what should be done to make fallout 3 run on Windows 8.1 other than what makes it run perfectly on Windows 7? Thanks for all possible advice and help!
  13. Well, if anyone is interested I found the cause myself: something added a variable in my fallout.ini: bDiasableAllGore=1 changing this to bDisableAllGore=0 did the trick to restore the gibbing...
  14. Probably this program installed an audio or video codec that interfered with Fallout, maybe ffdshow not restricted to whitelisted programs, by uninstalling it it removed also the interfering codec. I suggested the Intel graphics .dll since it solves some strange crashes, even without having an Intel card, I for example have an Nvidia one, well to start a new game in Fallout without the intel .dll I always crash after the birth scene, once I bypassed that scene with the intel .dll active, I can save and then restore my enb and fallout.ini's to match my setup, load my save and continue play, fortunately I don't start a new game often, but without that .dll I would not be able to start a new character, so I thought it was something to try
  15. When picking the bloody mess perk in this playthrough, the gibbing and exploding bodies don't work, I can kill raiders with a rocket launcher, shotgun whatever, they don't gib anymore. I tried removing the perk then adding it again by console, setting the variables with setav console command, nothing gibs are gone and I'd like to have the old effect back for a good laugh, any idea how I can do that? P.S.:: I checked with FO3Edit, the only thing that changes the Bloody Mess perk in my load order is the Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch but it doesn't alter anything else than preventing the gibbing happening to the npc's that are involved in the quest "You got to shoot them in the head."
  16. Some suggestions: 1)You might try the Intel Graphics Bypass d3d9.dll that can be found here on Nexus, look for Intel Graphics in search 2)Did you check your HDD, maybe a bad cluster formed itself in a vital file to launch Fallout? 3) rename your meshes folder to meshestest, launch the game, does it load ok? You have one or more corrupted meshes in your meshes folder, do the same with the textures folder if the meshes didn't work 4)Backup all your mods and savegame data, completely remove Fallout from your computer, preferably with an uninstaller like the one from Iobit that deep scans your drive and registry for remaining files, then reinstall, try to launch the game, if it works, restore all your backuped data and try again.
  17. Well up to drastic measures, I'm removing FWE and installing the non-FWE versions of the mods that dipended on it for those that have them, it's either that or stop playing Fallout 3 completely, that will get rid also of an annoying problem I had with FWE from the beginning, even when it was still stable in worldspaces: the custom skill book scripts that made me CTD if I read a book that was not in a stack of 2 or more, I asked the authors a long time ago about that one but they could never provide an answer or solution to that one and I know a lot of players that suffer from that bug also. Now I need to look for an alternative for FWE, as it had a lot of nice features liike the stimpacks that heal over time, increased damage and so on...
  18. I was suggesting the cell reset using your current load order in case you had some sort of corrupted spawn. Noting your success with disabling FWE, I still think you should give it a shot before doing anything else. Unfortunately it didn't work, I waited for 4 days inside an interior with full load order activated and still crashing at same place in Old Olney :(
  19. Well I found the offending mod and I'm completely baffled! It's FWE 6.3! Once I disable the FWE files I can run around Old Olney in circles and not a single CTD, even if I activate the FWE.esm only bam! CTD every single time. Now if there's one mod I don't want to disable then it's FWE! I consider it absolutely essential for my game, no joy playing without it + I have many files depending on it. I am analyzing my load order in FO3Edit now but no joy so far, I can't find a single conflicting record in Old Olney, wow, I'm starting to get desperate now lol
  20. Not really an option for me I'm affraid, I once lost a 450+ hours character before due to a hard disk crash on my old pc and all savegames were gone, so I'm getting a little tired doing the main quest and restarting from scratch :) So this 350+ hour character is already a restart, this time to keep the size of the savegame reasonable I disable every corpse and weapon I don't need with the console before moving on
  21. No, going to try that, should I disable Mart or just leave it enabled? When I start a savegame from within an interior without waiting and want to go outside it crashes with Mart deactivated, going to try the wait thing with marts activated first and then disabled after, I have plenty of savegames to choose from as I have an automatic save every two minutes of gameplay and they go back for the last 3 days realtime play, but it alsways crashes at Old Olney, as I remember Old Olney is filled with Deathclaws but they work fine anywhere else in the wastes. Edit: I stripped down my game to Vanilla and am busy enabling one mod at a time and the culprit is not Mart's Mutant Mod! wow, big surprise for me, I have many other mods to reactivate and launch the game each time to see if it crashes or not, will take me some time, next suspect in my list is Apocalypse Armory although I didn't find any references to the Old Olney Southwest worldspace in it with FO3Edit, now I'm really curious, will report back when I find the culprit, this might be useful info for other players that crash in Old Olney zone!
  22. As the title says, I systematically CTD when approaching Old Olney from the southwest, and also when I try to travel around it to try enter from another direction. I tried disabling all my mods one by one to find the culprit causing it, and I have almost all of them disabled now, but as soon as I deactivate Mart's Mutant Mod I cannot load any savegame anymore, it CTD's on loading the savegames, what should I do now? I suspect Mart's is causing the crash since I deactivated pretty much everything else. Don' tell me to restart another game because on this character I have 350+ hours played and I never went to Old Olney in this playthrough yet, so this crash is new to me, I fixed a zillion of other crashes but this one beats me, and if I can't fix it then I think Fallout 3 after years of play is finally over for me.
  23. Hi all, As an old oblivion player there was a mod for that game that hid the helmets for the player and his companions when wearing them. I looked everywhere on Nexus and in Google, but I can't seem to find a similar mod for Fallout 3. Am I blind? Or does it simply not exist? That would be a real bummer because I hate talking to tin cans :(
  24. Hey, Not sure if this is the right forum or if this has been posted before, but I wanted to share this, it had been driving me crazy and want to spare that feeling to fellow gamers who have the same crashes problems: I had Fallout 3 crashing almost every time I fast traveled to a location or just by moving to another cell and it would always crash to desktop during the loading screen. This didn't happen before but since I added a tons of mods I thought one of them made this crash happen. I removed them one by one to find the culprit, yet after stripping down Fallout 3 to vanilla state the crashes were still happening... I was about to give up on the game when after another start I wanted to load a game and noticed I had over 200 savegame files in my list. Could it be that there were to many? No surely not, it couldn't be that easy? Low and behold, after I deleted the 150 oldest savegame files in c:\my documents\my games\Fallout 3\saves folder I started the game again, loaded my last save, played many several hours sessions since and never had a change zone or fast travel crash again! So my advice is, if you save often like I do, move your oldest saves to a different folder! It will save you many headaches. Billy out :)
