  1. 86C is pretty much the top end of the acceptable operating temp and your shutdowns are due to overheating. was your fan running anywhere near 100% and at what temp? if the fan never got to 100% then try turning up the fan speed before playing and hopefully that will keep things under control.
  2. speedfan I think you can also change your fan speed. I use EVGA precision X and have my fan cranked up to 100% for intensive games like Skyrim and the temp stays low and I don't get the shutdowns like that. but before I got precision X I had random restarts and shutdowns.
  3. one possible cause is CPU and or GPU overheating.
  4. @sukeban it may be played out but does validate my statement that Ulfric's actions after the liberation of Markarth had a damaging effect on Skyrim. virtually every Imperial soldier in Skyrim is a Nord. the war only kills Nords and weakens Skyrim. although the Thalmor want a protracted war, it does make a very big difference who wins the war. if the Stormcloaks win then Cyrodiil and Skyrim fight the Thalmor individually (and it makes sense for the Thalmor to attack the severely weakened and divided Skyrim before they can recover enough to defend themselves against a Thalmor invasion. Ulfric is too proud to beg the Empire for help and after starting the rebellion, murdering the High King (who was a loyal supporter of the Empire) and, as far as the Empire is concerned, probably a suspect behind the assassination of TM2, it is unlikely that he would get any help. Skyrim will stand and fall alone then Cyrodiil will fall and the Thalmor will have won. Skyrim's only hope after a Stormcloak victory is for the Empire to attack the Thalmor before the Thalmor attack Skyrim. this would need the Thalmor to miss a huge tactical opportunity and the Empire to attack before they are ready
  5. everything Ulfric does is bad for Skyrim, the Empire and Tamriel. the fact that he may be totally unaware of this doesn't change that.
  6. which is the likeliest target for the Thalmor? Cyrodiil, bound by the WGC or Skyrim, ravaged by civil war and worshipping Talos? remember, most (if not all) of those guys wearing Imperial armour are Nords so the result of Ulfric's actions is a reduction in the population of Skyrim and doesn't weaken Cyrodiil at all. so where is this huge army from the North going to come from? Atmora? if the Thalmor can stomp Cyrodiil into the dust then what chance does a considerably weakened Skyrim have against the Thalmor if Ulfric really wanted the best for Skyrim he should have stayed "loyal" to the Empire until after the coming war with the Thalmor and then sought independence from Cyrodiil. if he had any brains at all and still wanted personal power he could have followed that plan and then challenged Torygg for the throne and there would have been little or no Empire involvement in the following civil war (and civil war would only have occurred if his right to challenge or the duel was called into question by the Jarls and people of Skyrim) none of Ulfric's actions after liberating the reach have done any favours for Skyrim
  7. sorry BrettM, I have a bad habit of not showing my working out, especially when it is something that looks as simple as 1 + 1 ;) my opinion that Ulfric's actions are bad for Skyrim and Cyrodiil is based on the following no rebellion: united Skyrim plus Cyrodiil vs Thalmor rebellion w/ Imperial victory: smaller Skyrim plus Cyrodiil vs Thalmor rebellion w/ Stormcloak victory: smaller Skyrim vs Thalmor followed by Cyrodiil vs Thalmor or maybe Cyrodiil vs Thalmor followed by smaller Skyrim vs Thalmor. hopefully that is clear enough to show that starting the rebellion has jeopardised Skyrim's future in the coming war against the Thalmor.
  8. @BrettM whether the Thalmor engineered the situation with Ulfric or just took advantage of it isn't that important (except to the Stormcloaks). Ulfric is either a puppet or an egotistical fool. what matters is that Ulfric's rebellion is bad for Skyrim (and the Empire). @Imperistan what ban on Talos worship? it may have been in the WGC but it wasn't and still isn't really in effect in Skyrim. there are shrines to Talos everywhere. the High King worshipped Talos before he was killed. Ulfric's claim that the Empire has betrayed Talos and Skyrim by banning Talos worship is empty. the evidence is all over Skyrim. on my first play through I thought that Whiterun supported the Stormcloaks because there is a very public shrine to Talos with a priest giving a sermon that can be heard almost everywhere you go in the Cloud District. that had to be right. only the Stormcloaks would allow such an open disregard for the WGC. but when I sided with Ulfric WR was besieged and the Jarl was deposed. well so much for Talos being the reason for the rebellion. this section from the UESP is worth reading so rather than use diplomacy and bring stability and order to Skyrim, Ulfric used the thu'um to gain an advantage in a duel. how very honourable. if Skyrim's interests were his prime concern then he would have been able to unite all the Jarls behind Torygg and Skyrim would have been united against the Thalmor and may have even been granted independance from the Empire peacefully (the Empire let Hammerfell go because they wouldn't accept the WGC). everything that Ulfric has done seems to be for his own benefit rather than the good of Skyrim.
  9. if Ulfric really did challenge the High King legitimately and the duel was according to tradition and law then Ulfric had no reason to run or even have a gate kept open for him so he could run away. if the challenge was all above board he could have beaten Torygg and claimed the crown. but if you listen to Ulfric's conversations in Windhelm, he says that he killed Torygg to send a message to all the other Jarls.
  10. you mean after the Empire released him instead of letting the Thalmor take him away for worshipping Talos? the Empire backed him up about Talos even though that risked war with the Thalmor. instead of letting things quieten down he started the rebellion and made the terms of WGC a factor in the rebellion, guaranteeing that the Thalmor would take more of an interest in Skyrim.
  11. this shouldn't be an issue and any guy who says that they couldn't play as a girl missed out big time on the game that made the PS1. Tomb Raider. the game where all the guys had to play as a girl and every last one of them loved it.
  12. did you try recycleactor on Urag by selecting him with the console open? (I find I have to then use the enable and moveto player commands to get a recycled actor to reappear) if that doesn't work, in the console, try resetting all stages of Under Saarthal using resetquest MG02 then completing it using player.setstage MG02 70 and talking to Savos again. hopefully that will get the quests back on track. have a look on the descriptions for the mods you have to see whether any have similar known bugs also, you said you don't have the helm, but have you started that quest? you might have to find and return the helm before other quests can trigger.
  13. have you spoken to Mirabelle? try speaking to her. if you go straight from Savos to Urag you haven't done the steps in order as for the quest not being started, if you are meant to be talking to Urag the quest has started stage 10 objective: speak with Mirabelle stage 20 objective: speak with Urag the above is from UESP
  14. Dang, I had high hopes for this one. I tried this but sadly to no avail. Thank you though for the idea. If anyone is interested, I went into much further detail on this problem on another forum Here. I have already gotten some good responses, but no fix yet. try "recycleactor" command on the NPC you might have to use the "moveto player" command as well if the NPC disappears recycleactor resets the NPC completely
  15. you're welcome you might need to enter commands to set the Unbound quest to complete first player.setstage MQ101 900 ;)
  16. ok, UESP said that was the code for Urag try this instead open console and click on Urag to select him in console then type recycleactor then hit enter, then enable then hit enter then moveto player then enter and close console. if you had Urag selected this will reset him and move him to you. you may need to wait around a bit for him to advance the quest. also, out of curiosity, do you have the Helm of Winterhold quest active? I know that having the Helm in your inventory can bork some quests and stop NPCs from having the right dialogue options
  17. player.setstage MQ102 30 should give you the quest objective and marker to go to Whiterun with news about the dragon player.setstage MQ102 160 will set that quest as complete and when you turn up in Whiterun and talk to the Jarl he should give you the objective to speak to Farengar
  18. this and this steam tracks what games have been played and for how long as well as which servers are used. it only collects system info if you do the survey (which is optional but does give you a good idea how your rig stacks up against everyone else's) and that is just anonymous data on what CPUs GPUs RAM and OS are in use and which are most popular (which is really good for us if game developers have access to it as they can tailor games towards the the tastes of gamers and the machines they play on)
  19. Stormcloak victory means power for Ulfric in the short term but disaster for Skyrim in the long term. if Ulfric gets the throne then Skyrim will have to face the Dominion alone. it really is that simple. if you think that siding with Ulfric means that the Thalmor can be beaten then your opinion is based on some very flawed interpretations of the evidence put into TES:V Skyrim by Bethesda.
  20. try talking to Savos again and ask him what to do next to see if that nudges the quest along 2 possible solutions with the console first try "setstage MG03 30" ( without the " " ) if that doesn't progress the quest to looking for the books try this in the arcanum, open the console and enter all three of these commands in this order 0001C1B4 recycleactor 0001C1B4 enable 0001C1B4 moveto player this should reset Urag and get him to give you the next stage of the quest
  21. I had the problem from the second video after messing with the skyrimprefs.ini it turned out that instead of setting iShadowMapResolution to 4096 I had made a typo and set it at 4960. correcting the typo fixed the problem. also check that iShadowMapResolutionPrimary and iShadowMapResolutionSecondary have correct values and check in the skyrim.ini as well list of values 1024 (blocky) 2048 4096 (smooth)
  22. too many stormcloak supporters in this thread haven't paid attention to the NPCs in Skyrim. the Empire allowed Talos worship and the Thalmor only came into Skyrim to uphold the White Gold Concordant because of the civil war. the Empire is already gearing up for war against the Thalmor ( ) and it is really only the Stormcloak rebellion that is preventing them from tearing up the W/G Concordant. Talos is used as an excuse by Ulfric yet the High King that he killed openly worshipped Talos in Solitude and there are shrines to Talos in Whiterun and Markarth (both of which are Imperial cities) and Ulfric's motives seem to be for personal reasons rather than for the good of Skyrim
  23. you believe that Skyrim on its own could do what the Empire, including Skyrim, couldn't do? assuming that Ulfric could actually unite Skyrim with so many Nords supporting the Empire. Skyrim on its own, even united under a high king, wouldn't have a chance against the Dominion. the Empire, including a united Skyrim and the Dragonborn, has a much better chance of defeating the Dominion. anyone who thinks the Empire has gone along with the ban on Talos should have a look around the Empire controlled cities of Whiterun and Markath. both openly allow Talos worship in defiance of the Dominion.
  24. I don't know about that. a new engine that had less bugs wouldn't hurt the SP game :D
