Wyrmspleen
I'm not fully sure on Update.esm function. Can someone advise? When carrying forward records from Skyrm.esm should Update.esm be the overriding record? I am guessing this would be the case. For example: Skyrim.esm Update.Esm ModXCWT - Water - DefaultMarshWater [WATR:00105CC3] (blank) (blank) ?
IsharaMeradin
Update.esm should override Skyrim.esm. This is because Update.esm is where Bethesda put their changes when patching the game. Unfortunately, the DLC plugins were never made to require Update.esm despite some records being in both the DLC and Update.esm. The Unofficial patch takes care of these outliers by carrying over any Update.esm changes not directly modified by the DLC.

KainThePheonix
IF you clean plugins, you can safely clean Update.esm, plus the other DLC. You MUST NEVER, EVER clean Skyrim.esm. Just putting that out there if you ever find yourself thinking of cleaning the mods.
