Vortex is not sorting plugins according to rules I set. It wont give me reason either.

Im trying to run Complex Sorter for Fallout 4. Instructions say to put R88_SimpleSorter.esp at the bottom of load order.

So I make rule that R88_SimpleSorter.esp must load after last plugin in my load order (scrap everything - ultimate edition.esp in this case).

and press Sort Now button but nothing happens. R88_SimpleSorter.esp stays at its current place - roughly in a middle of my load order.

I cant seem to move that esp anywhere. I checked different plugins and some of them can be sorted by rules some cant. But Vortex wont tell me why it doesn't sort sometimes.

I dont really mess with groups, because frankly I dont understand their purpose or how to interact with them. I also think groups are not a problem here. Most of my plugins including R88_SimpleSorter.esp are in default group and I cant even move R88_SimpleSorter.esp within that group.

I did manage to sort my load order just fine with rules last time I was playing Fallout 4 (about year ago). Now it just wont work as I expect it and wont tell me why.

again, put it in a group that will load modules low down in your load order. that's the answer to your issue.

if you don't understand groups read the knowledge base or read some LOOT literature.

Are you hitting the "sort now" button after setting the rule?

Yes I did. Valuable Metals example did get sorted after I restarted Vortex so I guess theres that.

Still cant put R88_SimpleSorter.esp at the bottom even tho I did add it to same group last plugin belongs to. I dont think its groups anyway.

Does it need to be literally last or just after the mods it interacts with? Maybe set a rule to sort it after your BASH patch?

@Enyap

If you follow 1ae0bfb8's advice about assigning to a group, you'll solve your problem. In the LOOT scheme of things, groups are an absolutely essential component in achieving good load order. If you can't achieve the load order you want in the Default Group, then obviously you need to place your late loading mod in a group that loads after the default group.

You owe it to yourself to learn about groups. Then you'll understand why group assignment is the solution for your problem.

To be honest I went full rage mode, uninstalled all my mods and downloaded Mod Organizer 2.

I accept the need to learn how to edit stuff in XEdit but not this. I just want to put plugin where I want to put it. Not before its master or some other stupid stuff like that. Just one simple plugin without dependencies which technically can sit anywhere after esms so I can generate my sorting mod patch. It should not be so hard. This is not knowledge issue its user interface issue.

Thank you all for your replies.
