New tab for translations and preset/followers without dialogue

Hello,

I have a suggestion about the tab for new mods about a game.

It would be nice/better in instead having translation and preset/followers without dialogue in "new mods" tab, having them in their own tab.

Why ? Because most of the time, they hide the "real new mods" and sometimes, we miss the "real new mods".

I mean, let's taking this exemple. Today skyrim special edition, look at this picture :

14 translations, 1 preset, 2 patchs, 3 mods.

Don't take me wrong, as translator (even if i'm not doing translate anymore), it can be a lot of work (specially "big mods"). It's not easy, translator aren't often thanked for their work sadly.

But in my opinion, translation, presets and "doll" (followers without dialogue/quest) hide the "real new mods".

My suggestion would be that instead be in the "new mods" tab, they get their "own" tab like that, they don't hide the real new mod and people who are looking for update/new translation can go in this tab. Like that, more visibility for new mods/modders.

It's the same for preset/"doll". Sometimes you can have 15 presets on "new mods" tab. A preset isn't a mod in my opinion and as translation can hide too sometimes the visibility of new mods.

Elmeridyn, this battle is over a decade old and still, Nexus does nothing to help users limit what they see in their displays or search results.

Eventually, one of the Nexus Staff will post and tell you that it is possible to block translations by blocking the appropriate TAG. Unfortunately you can only block using a TAG if the mod is adequately TAGGED. Alas, a high percentage of mods, over a third at the last sampling, have no TAGS at all. This condition exists because TAGS are optional and leaving off TAGS gets your mod to show up in virtually every search result, for a lot of free exposure. Users have lobbied to have TAGS made mandatory, but that request has fallen on deaf ears.

This same member of Nexus Staff will tell you that you as a user can add a TAG to a mod, which is true. But there are a few elements they fail to mention. It takes three users to TAG a mod with the same TAG before it takes effect. Authors can block users from adding TAGS. Authors can set it so they must approve any TAGS set my users. And Authors can turn off user set tags, in spite of the users. Is attempting to TAG over 120,000 mods rally a good way to spend the users time to fix what the author should have done in the first place?

Finally, several folks have even lobbied to allow users to block mods which have no TAGS from search results. Kind of a way to get authors to step up and do the right thing. You can see where that has gone. The same place forcing authors to TAG their mod went.

PS Nexus used to show the number of mods which had no TAGS on the game page. They took that statistic away with their site redesign.

There are problems no matter what you do. First, you have the problem of not considering translations and presets to be "real new mods", which some people will not appreciate.

Second, if uploading a translation or preset gets it relegated to a tab a lot of people will ignore, then many people will simply not mark it as a translation or preset. Same as with tags.

And you need to consider that the Nexus is as much a service for the mod authors as it is a service for mod users. Changes need to balance for both.

There are tags in place to help you block content you are not interested in. The "Translation" and "Preset" ones (actual name may vary). You can also block certain authors if you don't like the content they share.

A far as a "New tab" goes I feel that's a bit short sighted as the current site setup applies to 1,500+ games and presets/translations don't apply to the majority of those. It's better for you to use the available controls to block content. It's not perfect, but there's not much we can do about that in the short term.

And, of course, the only reliable way to push translations and presets into a new tab would be if they were tagged as translations or presets!

It would be better to change the search rankings so that well tagged mods were ranked higher, or persisted longer on the main page. That would incentivise authors to tag their mods.
