Blastoise
I think Purists are known for their incessant bitching and whining about new changes and "unbalancing", which can be as simple as the daedric claymore being to powerful, or can be as complex as spell casting. So how many modders actually made mods for cheaters and regular people with lives?
Switch
me! im a bit of a purist in game, but sometimes i like 2 use unbalancing items to have some fun... i made my own plugin containing countless unbalanced items :P
Baphomet
I'm with Switch on this one... for the most part I play the game the way I feel it was meant to be played, but the REAL reason I play is to have fun. Once in a while I have fun with something that's "less than pure" (listen to me! laugh...), and sometimes I "cheat" because I just get tired of making the trip on foot from, say Balmora to Caldera to sell a stolen glass dagger, so yes, GASP, I occasionally will "coc" myself to Caldera. It's all about enjoying the game.
Switch
lol ok im not like that at all... i wont even use COC and when i use unbalancing items i use em on a specially made char. when i play with my main char i strive not 2 cheat or use any type of mod at all, so im 100% purist when i play with him :P just cos i used 2 cheat ALL the time when i first got the game so ive gone from one extreme to the other :P i use some mods with my other chars tho. Baphomet
Hey Switch, I didn't mean to implicate YOU in MY "cheating", or anything else for that matter... I was simply drawing on your use of "unbalanced" items to make my point. In re-reading my post though, it does sound like that's what I was doing or trying to do: I apologize for that. I get to rambling sometimes ya see...
miltonic
Damn it Baph..will you stop pointing the finger all the time? I personally tend to get bored if I max out my character's stats and I'm jumping mountain ranges in a couple bounds. To me, once the challenge is gone, I move on. So I'm a little more 'pure' you could say. I think modder's should build for 'purists', and let those who want to cheat choose to tweak the mod themselves. After all it's much easier to tweak and un-balance than to tweak and balance. Word? Rune
I see myself as a purist. Once you've maxed out the challenge is gone. I try to join factions that like each other, and am progressing through the main quest slowly. I download a few mods but not like the "Utter Sword of Kick Ass" or anything. :D The only times I unbalance is as a vampire. Shoes of Speed!! No fast travel really kills. miltonic
What? The "Sword of Utter Kick Ass" isn't legit? Damn it, I guess I'm not a purist. What about the Mace of Utter Manliness?
Blastoise
See what I say about the incessant bitching? Its hard for non-programmers like me to actually use the Editor to its full extent. Esp. when there is no GOOD tutorial included.
Peregrine
That's the problem, the "full extent" of the editor is not making overpowered items. Anyone can make a mod with a sword with 99999-9999999 damage, but what's the point? That takes no effort at all and completely ruins the game if you use it. The real challenge is making something that adds new content without unbalancing the game. I'd much rather play a well thought out mod with a good story and changes that actually make sense, even if it doesn't make my character more powerful. And I won't even think about downloading the "1337 sword of teh haxor".
