JimboUK
It's just a rumour for now but fingers crossed. Fallout New Vegas 2 is reportedly in ‘very early talks at Microsoft’ | VGC (videogameschronicle.com)
madmongo
Assuming that this eventually results in a game, I have a few questions that will definitely affect whether I am interested in this or not. The first is how much Bethesda will be involved, because Bethesda either can't or won't make a proper RPG these days. They were once the undisputed kings of the RPG. Elder Scrolls is getting more and more brain-dead with every game, and Fallout 4 wasn't even an RPG at all, just a shooter. A Fallout New Vegas 2 that is just a shooter would be a huge disappointment and I would not be interested in it at all. The second question is how much Microsoft will accept of the Fallout style. Fallout from the beginning has included things like prostitutes, slavery, and a lot of dark humor. You could become a porn star in Fallout 2. Will Microsoft sanitize the world to make it teen friendly? A rated PG Fallout is also going to be disappointing. The third question is how much will Creation Club be a focus for the game? Bethesda games lately seem to be focused on Creation Club and making money through microtransactions, so instead of good DLC we get DLC that is focused on things like base building so that you can buy assets from Creation Club and that sort of nonsense. If the focus is on making money through Creation Club then the focus isn't on making a good game, and Bethesda games are suffering in a major way from this problem lately. The DLC for FO4 was a huge waste of money and a complete disappointment. Bethesda has completely trashed the Fallout franchise, so much so that I personally don't have much hope for it. I could see them putting out a shooter Fallout New Vegas 2 because just the name will guarantee sales. I wouldn't buy it though. In fact, I am not buying anything that Bethesda has been involved with until I see reviews that prove it's not a Creation Club microtransaction focused piece of trash. If it's not a true RPG, then I'm not interested. If you want my money, make a real Fallout game, not something like FO4 or FO76.
showler
See, my first question would have been "if Obsidian is involved, has anyone taught them how to make a good 3d, first person, open world game yet?". Outer Worlds just had a different set of flaws from New Vegas.

If Bethesda makes it then I'll give it a miss, the quality of their writing is subpar at best and they have no interest in making RPGs, I really wish they'd stick to screwing the Elder Scrolls up. Surely Microsoft are aware that people want an Obsidian Fallout? they won't have missed what Bethesda have done to the franchise, Microsoft come across as smarter than the clowns at companies like EA and Ubisoft. showler
Microsoft is smart enough to notice that Bethesda Fallout games sell better than Obsidian Fallout games. Best hope would be Obsidian writing and Bethesda world building/mechanics.
JimboUK
That may have been the case prior to Fallout 76 but I doubt it is now, their association with the brand is tarnished.
showler
Nobody would look at 76 as an example. It was an experiment in a new kind of game from the beginning. No real relevance to a single player game.
JimboUK
A new kind of game? there are a mountain of games like that on Steam and most of them work better and anyway what it was makes little difference, the damage was done. I honestly don't think they'd be dumb enough to announce a sequel or prequel to New Vegas and then say Bethesda are making it.
Moksha8088
Obsidian never came through with a developer's kit for modders on Outer Worlds. Most people here would want FNV 2 to have mods.
JimboUK
My concern is a lack of third person, I might be in a tiny minority here but I can't care for a character that I can't see, it's why I never really got into the Outer Worlds or Cyberpunk 2077. The excuse for not having third person in the Outer Worlds was the shoestring budget it was developed on, however the title they're working on at the moment doesn't appear to have it either and that's being developed with Microsoft money. Obsidian never came through with a developer's kit for modders on Outer Worlds. Most people here would want FNV 2 to have mods. Yes and that lack of mods really lessened the replay value.
