Adras
Personally, I dont like EverQuest. My reasons being that I had talked to a friend not long ago and asked him what he thought about it. He said he doesnt like it because he had lost too many friends to its 'addictivness'. I believed him, but I wasnt sure what to make of it. I now know what he ment. My friend recently started playing it (last weekend) and has barely done anything else. I called his house yesterday around 12:30 PM (noon), when he should have been up and been up for a while, and I find out that hes still asleep. "Ok... Thats not normal, but he has done this before," I thought. So I thought nothing of it. Well I get a call around 1:05 (13:05) and I come to find out that he was sleeping because he stayed up until 3:30 that morning. Playing EverQuest. "Whatever," I thought. "I've done that playing Morrowind a few times and DoD or Sven Co-Op (Hallf Life mods)." Well I come to find out that he was on an appointment because he had to be on at 1 to help someone gain some levels. That was when it got redickules (sp?). So I call back later and he is still playing EverQuest. When I called this morning around 12:45 this afternoon, he wasnt up. I called back later (around 4:30 because I had to go somewhere) and he was up. But he got up late because EverQuest "wouldnt leave me alone" (those are the actual words he said). When i asked why 'it' wouldnt leave him alone, he said "weak innocent people needed my help." Then I told him that its not that hard to 'Just say NO'. Anyways, thats my rant about EverQuest. Tell me what you think about the game and if you've lost anyone to it.
valdir
I'm sorry, you've lost him. His life is over. Might as well bait his room with weed and narc on him. Prison is a lot safer. On a related note, DPunk bought EQ2 and I haven't seen him online in a few days [/worriedsick] :bye: But I gotta go. Just one more level up, I swear. Dark0ne
Are we talking about Everquest Live (the original) or Everquest 2? If its Everquest 2, get him to type /played into the chat box and it will show him how long he's been playing the game in total for. I've currently racked up 7 days 10 hours (178 total hours played) and the game only launched on the 12th... Now, from a biased opinion I'd say you're being the bad friend here! Here your friend is, taking from the orcs to give to the poor, and all you are doing is trying to stop him! Where's your humanity man? People need him! Why have you not made an account and helped him in his noble pursuit? Honestly. Get a life!
Cete
How much does it cost per month? I'm not aware of this game. But even our school teacher back in 9th grade told us about the game and how her son was sent to a rehab clinic.
Dark0ne
$15 smackerooni's a month. I'd happily pay that for 150 hours of entertainment a month :)
Switch
I've heard that people do get addicted to this MMORPG which is, IMHO, a complete load of [insert expletive here]. How anyone gets addicted to that borefest is beyond me. And yes, I have actually played the game. I had 8 characters, each about level 4-8, I was desperately trying to find a class that was more interesting than watching paint dry. I failed. After spending many a week slaying poorly rendered bats, bees, rats, orcs that all look the same and other such monotonous creatures for piffling exp, all the while suffering that painful single animation for every strike battle system, I decided that this game wasn't even worth logging in for anymore. Not to mention the graphics in general were quite ugly. Yes, I did try the quest system and things and I wasn't very impressed. Not once did I have even the remotest desire to take my characters any further than they were. So yes, my experience with the game wasn't exactly a positive one. :P And I am talking about the original Everquest here with only the first 3 expansions, it may well have improved since I used to play it a couple years ago. Who knows. I'm not trying to insult anyone here, this is just my honest opinion on the game.
FlightlessBird
I think that EQ2 (and EQ for that matter) would be fun. Except I'd probably be one to get addicted to it. Unfortunatly, I do not have a credit card I can use for the game and My rents are basically paranoid of putting theirs on the internet... Therfore: Any game that costs money to play = I cant buy it. Ol well. I'll just have to keep playing Battle net. :)
Dark0ne
There was a rumour (although I think it was in the news...I say a rumour since I haven't tried to confirm it) that a Korean boy died playing EQ. He was so addicted he forgot to eat or drink.... ...funny. But not. If you get me? ;)
Cete
That sounds unlikely.. But then again. ;)
Osiris
I believe it. But I'm a sucker. I never played the original EQ, but I've heard some (horror) stories... Supposedly someone's dad I know was fired from his job due to his bad case of EverCrack... just stopped showing up one day. I thought no, that would never happen to me, what a weak minded fool. A couple weeks later I was curious of how someone could get addicted to a game, so I went out and bought Horizons: Empire of Istaria (this was back in the day, ya know), mostly because I didn't want to subject myself to EQ and possibly form a habit, and it seemed to have better graphics anyway. Then I discovered my weakness, The MMORPG. Even a low budget game (or maybe it just seems like that now) as Horizons got me hooked/addicted/enslaved. The first person I met and the leader of the first guild I was ever in.....died. Yes, he died in RL. I must have an amazing effect on people. I still played the game but after about 5 months of that I went cold turkey, forced myself to stop playing, and see what I missed in the outside world. Then came EVE, which was fun, but not quite as addicting. And SWG, which was only fun for a short time with a couple RL friends. <_< And now there's EQ2 god help me. I even found my old guild from Horizons by complete chance while walking around Freeport, if that isn't a sign what is.BTW EQ2 is great, go buy now... :halloween:
