Can we ever have the good edgy 18+ content back please?

Hi as a person who was AMAB i would argue that the whole controversy has helped no one. I miss the nazi legion mods vs soviet NCR mods because they added some larping fun. While i understand peoples concern about in real life fascism isn't it a good idea to have mods and places where they be separated by an adult wall. That way if were concerned about queer kids becoming fascists it's kind of on them for violating the rules by venturing into 18+ land.

 

 

But in honest sincerity it would be a lot better if we could put the porn and obvious edge lord violence simulators behind 18+ walls. I mean if i as someone who is gender non-conforming feels like I'm being unfairly babied by nexus. I have to pay taxes and live in this capitalist world. I want my outlets of ultimate freedom because i enjoyed killing the legion more when they were dressed up like nazis.

 

I mean this post out of sincerity as a paying member but why can't i have it all. imperfections make the world a better place.

Very much agree with you there, nicely said. The site's policy used to be a sort of "not everything needs to be for everyone, we're all different, live and let live and don't judge" (within rules and laws) openness, that's honestly healthy for a creative space and what I found was the general atmosphere aim when I was studying art. Been on here a long time and saddened by some of the recent stuff, it's getting a bit puritanical in various ways and I fear it'll start to scare people off and cause needless infighting among people who really all just want to express themselves, escape and play around with "what if's" in a safe and harmless environment. For the record (seems relevant here) I'm very much NOT into the stuff you mentioned hah, I don't need to be, I fully support your personal right to choose things based on your own perspectives and curiosities, that's the important bit to me :smile:

Honestly, I don't think we'll ever see the Nexus hosting anything that Robin thinks is unsuitable for the site. Either because of the possibility to harm people or to harm the site.

 

And we've had plenty of evidence that allowing harmful people the freedom to say whatever they want in our spaces is a bad idea. The world has to deal with everything from a resurgence in Nazis to a resurgence in Polio now. Being "fair" hasn't been working.

 

As for an 18+ section... being 18+ doesn't magically make people impervious to influence or harm. Most of the world's problems are caused by "adults". You might say they have a right to make their own choices, but that includes Robin's right not to participate in their bad choices.

 

In the end, there are other mod sites and file sharing sites out there without these rules. Robin running his site the way he wants is not preventing anyone from creating, sharing or using whatever types of mods they want.

There ARE limits though on here respectfully, and always have been. Also intolerance isn't limited to a "side", you can't only tolerate your perspective in case the sort of "intolerants" will destroy things, because in doing so you BECOME the intolerance and destroy things yourself. It's the price we pay for the right to our own opinions surely that we accept other people's as well? We try to maintain balance and fairness together, it's not easy and we all have different views on even that but it's the price we pay again for our openness, all or nothing views just create extremists one way or another.

as long as most people who claim the right of the freedom of expression for themselves do not know that this means and that there are duties and respnsibilities they often ignore or refuse to fullfill due to a lack of knowledge how "freedom" in a free society works, i warmly recommed to read this first. especially chapter 3 is important to read and to understand.

in the light of this you may understand why the "good edgy 18+ section" and the discussion about may be porblematic. is it not a misleading misunderstanding to discribe some things as "good edgy content" if they are not even covered by the "freedom of expression" convention (for a good and explained reason)?

 

to protect everyone’s freedom of expression there are some limits and duties everyone has to fullfill. and talking about the "good edgy" content in public we are at these limits and there exist obvious, explainable reasons to not support such content and discussions in a forum or in the public if you want to protect "everyone's" freedom of expression.

 

the "but why can't i have it all" mentality sounds innocent and naiv. but isn't it also a kind of reckless and egoistic to ask this way as an adult ? just think about it.

All content tagged as adult is inaccessible by anyone under 18. Beyond this concern, I don't see the purpose in this thread and will lock it.
