Kheldor
I'm very curious to see if anyone has explored this yet: Is archery, both with bows and crossbows, possible in Fallout 3? It would seem to me that full featured archery would be very desirable for FO3, especially with the possibility of everything from regular arrows to explosive arrows to poison crossbow bolts (and more, like in Thieves Arsenal for Oblivion). There were many nicely done player modded bows (including a couple of excellent compound bows) for Oblivion, and along with great bows, crossbows with scopes etc would also add a lot. Let's face it, on occasion you have to wonder just how much ammo was actually stockpiled and when it's going to run out, considering I'm guessing not many *cough* wastelanders are into reloading their own ammunition....while on the other hand, arrows can be made much more easily, even with scrap at hand (car antenna for example). The poison dart shooting hand held in the game (made from a schematic) that utilizes the toy car is basically a small hand held compound crossbow. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone can shed more light on this, if it's possible, if there are works in progress, or if I should give up on archery in the Wasteland :) Any help, thoughts and opinions welcome. TGBlank
It's quite a complex feat, and a tad out of reach at the time (unless it's a hand crossbow that adapts to the dart-gun animations).Getting custom gun firing and reload animations into the game is rather tricky, and hasn't been done yet (there is one attempt of custom reload animation, and it's buggyish). Give it time for the community to figure out a way to do it well, once that is done, getting the bow working would sound much closer to reality, right now it's more like a wishful dream at best. grimcess
That'll be awesome. There'll be more Mad Max influences than there were.
Schreiter
I cannot express how disappointed i am with how simplified the weapons in Fallout 3 are. Even after you would get a working model into the game, you would be limited to one kind of ammunition because nobody at Bethesda thought of putting ammunition on a form list to allow interchangeability. Even then, i don't know how you'd tell the game that you want to shoot a poison arrow, since we can't drag and drop ammunition like we could in all other Fallouts. Ugh, and you'd be forced to wait for the reload animation after every shot whilst a molerat is digging into you. Can't draw another weapon, you have to reload right now, because the game can't be bothered to remember how many rounds were last in a gun. BadPenney
And those idiots at Beretta didn't think to make it possible to put 9mm in my .45 Storm either. :wallbash:
Amayakyrol
It's not possible because there is one set projectile speed for all types of ammunition. You would have arrows going as fast as bullets. :P
TGBlank
It's not possible because there is one set projectile speed for all types of ammunition. You would have arrows going as fast as bullets. :PThat's technically wrong. Projectile speed is projectile dependent. Mesmetron's projectiles are snail-slow, missiles are a bit faster, bullets are faster, and laser bolts are instant. Problem lays in holding and firing and reloading animations. Not only animations are hard to make, but since we got no way to "add" new sets, you'd have to break something in order to get the bow animations in. Bkrp
The big problem here are grip and reload animations. And the way it looks, it will take a long time to get custom reload animations working. Hell, maybe never.
antonkr
its almost impossible. It will take months for group of moders to create it. I dont think there is anybody here who can do this. well maybe antistar but i dont know if he do animation.
