Having endured 'festive' shop displays since about August, when the 'back to school' promotions finished, having been subjected to endless replays of Band Aid 20 (WTF happened to Bono?!?!?!?!), having scattered crowds of baffled and confused lamers who suddenly appear in towns and cities (where do those people hide out during the rest of the year? I suppose with the amount of stuff they buy in December they don't need to go shopping again for another year, right enough.... ) by giving them my most evil glare (seemed to work too  ), having written as few Christmas cards as I could get away with (and that was still too many!!), having wrapped up the few presents it was inevitable to give (tip of the season - goats make great presents!! ) and finally having spent yesterday evening training up my hand-to-hand combat and acrobatics skills in preparation for braving the supermarkets and the Christmas eve crowds of stampeding frenzied panic buyers (OMG teh shops will be closed for TWO WHOLE DAYS!! FAMINE!! <_<) and managing to purchase sprouts and parsnips (hey!! I actually LIKE those vegetables... I don't buy them because they're 'traditional'!!) without having to resort to 'Hero'-style martial arts techniques I am now ready to wish everyone on these forums a heartfelt

Having survived the ugly commercial spectacle that is the build up to Christmas it's time to grab the last mince pie, and relax watching the snow fall.....

0.o ... it's snowing!!!!

I was watching the Grunmpy Old Men "Xmas" special last night, and found that i was agreeing with everything that was said. Does this mean i've managed to skip twenty years and slouch into my fortys early, baggy jeans, cover-all-stains brown t-shirt and fag-end at the ready (a la Ken Stott, who looked like he'd just come off the back of a bender)?

No, i don't think so just yet. I may be surrounded by the collective cynicism of all the forum members, the PCZone team, and that strange guy that keeps telling me i'm a pretty boy at the bus station :( , but i feel i can lay my pent-up middle-agedness at the feet of the Christmas season. Having tinsel and the aforementioned Song of Evil crammed down my throat from every TV channel, shop window and my store manager (yes, she is one of those who is what is known as a "Christmas person" :ranting: ) has engendered a certain amount of ill-feeling to this holiday season.

So, with that in mind, i'm going to wish everyone good luck, i hope we all survive, and i'll see you in time for New Year.

Wait a sec, I thought Christmas started out as a marketing technique? Admittedly, selling a religion is a bit different from selling the latest trinkets, gadgets, geegaws, and whatnot, but it's still similar. (Actually, identical except for the gadgets!). One of the absolute WORST ads I've heard, though, is an advertisement for lottery tickets. Even just sticking $10 in an envelope is better! The best gift, IMO, is one that you make yourself. For instance, from what I've heard, all Suz's friends are getting glass goats :P

It doesn't take much to, say, carve someone's name out of wood, or something simple like that!

In conclusion, I'd like to say:

STOP THE COMMERCIALIZED INANITY!

P.S. If one of you has Peregrine's address, could you send him a can of Spam?

Sitting in the office, alone, with nothing happening...

I couldn't BAH HUMBUG more!

But the dreadful earthquake/tsunami was enough to make me feel that my complaints are as nothing in comparison. So let's go forward and wish everyone courage and fortitude to face 2005.
