Downloading Fallout 4 Script Extender.

Hello, I'm looking for help. I am a former Fallout 4 Xbox console player who just recently started playing again after several years break, but now I'm using a laptop to play the game. I'm pretty much computer illiterate, I don't want to break my game, but trying to use the Workshop in the vanilla game without having Place Anywhere is driving me absolutely bonkers. It's no longer available from Bethesda.net. However in order to get that mod from the nexus, I need the F4SE script extender.

I've watched numerous tutorial videos on how to do it. Here's my problem. When I try to open the F4SE that I downloaded, it asks me what app

to open it with. I downloaded 7-Zip like the website said, but I absolutely cannot find it or select it as an option to use. I tried using Vortex, and

I'm not sure that did anything. In the tutorials I've watched, it seems like you're able to just drag and drop a file onto your desktop once its been

downloaded. That doesn't seem to work for me. There's nothing to put on the desktop, except for one time when I tried to open it with Notepad

and it gave me a really weird text document, not a file like in the tutorial.

I'm not experienced at browsing files or messing with the internals of my computer. I've already tried to delete/re-download it a couple times and I'm kind of worried I'm loading up my computer with extra junk, because after I delete it there are still F4SE files around. If anyone can take pity on me and give me some pointers it'd be greatly appreciated, Thank You!

P.S. My laptop is a Dell G15 Ryzen Edition, and I'm using Windows 10.

In order to extract F4SE's files that will be needed to be copied to Fallout4/Data, you'll need a .7z file extractor as Windows Explorer can't open or extract them.

7-zip and PeaZip are popular extractors. Once you extract the files (preferably not directly into Fallout4/Data, choose/create a temporary folder to extract the files into), open "f4se_readme.txt" and make sure to read the installation part carefully.

F4se still needs to be setup to run tho. it doesn't just automatically start, without setting it up.

1ae, Showler, or some of the other experienced Vortex users can give directions on how to set Vortex up to fire f4se up.

Myself, I just copied the .exe file, and pasted a shortcut of it to my desktop. I double click on it, then it fires up f4se and f4se launches the game.
