Well, I only speak a little French, could probably remember the odd phrase or two in Latin if I put my mind to it, English, and a couple of words of Klingon. :grin:

I'll bet the Klingon put it up a ways. Some of those questions were a little off though. Who on earth doesnt want there own real lightsabre? And who said that Monty Python was a geek film? Blasphemy!!!

Well, I am acctually bilingual. My mother is Swiss-German, my father American, so I learned both German and English when I was a kid. I can also speak French and have some knowlegde of Latin and Ancient Greek, but that only as a side-note.

 

Of course I also speak fluently some Melirian languages, but I invented those languages and I am the only one who knows them, so this is not interesting for anyone else.

Thank you Darnox for reminding us of what this thread is supposed to be about - although i suppose in a way knowing a foriegn language could label us geeks.... no, no sorry, thats too much of a stretch.

 

I'm impressed by your creation of some languages. To what extent are they developed? Are we going to see websites going up in the near future giving us a simple twelve-week course that will guarantee you will learn Merlirian or your money back, or extensive apendices detailing the grammar and pronunciation of each syllable? :grin:

 

Seriously though, how did you do it? I've always wondered how Tolkien, or anyone else for that matter, could create a language.
