in this context, what would "other" signify?

Genders who don't fit the binary, I imagine.

Your answer doesn't make any sense. You are aware, aren't you that gender <> sex? There are two sexes, but more than two gender choices, so the gender choice is not a binary selection.

The presence of "other" as a choice is an admittedly vague option, that can be used to cover a myriad of selection choices.

My take here is that the minute the available options are increased to include one or many gender-specific alternatives, there's a very good chance that someone, somewhere will accuse Nexusmods of censorship or bias, simply because their personal choice may not be on the list.

Hence my qestion to the OP, asking them to expand on why "other" doesn't seem to fit their view?

Because "Other" isn't currently an option. That's what they want to be added.

sorry, i meant "prefer not to say" - i fail at copy/paste.

same question - if male/female/prefer not to say is insufficient, why? what is missing?

lets say that the list gets populated by 10 other choices, someone somewhere will say why isn't choice 11 on your list? this is censorship/oppression/bias. basically, it gives the opportunity for someone to take offence, where no offence is given, and i don't see how nexusmods, or its users wins here.

for me, personally, i'd suggest that this field is removed because it can be mis-used as a stick to beat someone with.

or, is there a desperately urgent need for the OP to say "other"?

This has come up before. The gender field is hardcoded in the forum so we can't update it without a disproportionate amount of work. I may look again after Xmas but editing the forum in any way can cause lots of problems across the entire site. This is why we're working to decouple everything from the forum going forwards.

I expect when we move to a new user profile system we may just drop the field entirely and you're free to add any info like that into your bio if you're comfortable sharing it.
