Dark0ne
And I do not agree about a lack of talent in the last 20 years (but then again, you like Metallica, which explains a lot grin.gif ) /me agrees with Theta. If fish could sing I'd place £10 on them sounding like Metallica. Please, no links to those singing fish toys -- I'm one step ahead of your humour...all of you :tongue2: Music's become both more talented, more controversial and more intelligent. Adelbert
Nirvana. In my opinion, the best rock band ever.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nirvana, my friend, is grunge. If anything, Nirvana is grunge. And I do agree that rock ain't nothing nowadays if you compare it to 20-something years ago. I mean, if Linkin Prank or whatever is called rock, then kill me now(even better, kill them).
ThetaOrionis01
Well, the mid-eighties were brilliant.... the Cure, Bauhaus, Fields of the Nephilim, the Cult, the Sisters... fantastic.
draighox
What are the differences between rock and grunge then?I agree about Licking Park.
Adelbert
Well ya know.. Listen to Nirvana, then listen to real rock. I mean, there's a difference in Kurt Cobain's rusty voice and Axl Rose's not-so-rusty voice, ain't there?
draighox
Hm. I thought Nirvana made their own style/genre, which was a branch of rock... So its called grunge... Name a few other grunge bands.
Fishystick
Actually, grunge is a kind of rock, it's commonly known as depressed rock and some people even call it slow punk. Many grunge bands are mostly complaining about how certain things suck, how life sucks, how rockstars suck, whatever. Other known grunge bands include Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Mudhoney. Even Silverchair and Smashing Pumpkins are called a kind of grunge, just not extremely heavy grunge, if you get my point.
draighox
Yeah, I've read about grunge in Wikipedia. Nirvana is grunge indeed.Live and learn...
loveme4whoiam
I am a product of the post-Nirvana stream of average punk bands. I am surprised to see no-one has mentioned Greenday yet, in my opinion the seminal, er, punk rock group. If you can call Greenday punk rock. I have a hard time spotting the difference between all the different types of "rock" at the moment - indie, alternative, soft, hard, metal... I like what i like, and define my tastes by bands rather than genres. I would also like to put in a vote for classical music, which is the most permenant of all the genres listed. I doubt in one hundred years time seventy-years olds and Philosphy graduates turning on Classic FM to listen to Metallica and THE WORLDS WORST BAND EVER THEY LOOK AND SOUND LIKE TRAMPS ARGHHHH!!!111eleven. Classical music will always be liked, will all other forms of music are subject to ups and downs in popularity. I would just like to take the time to state that all generic pop "singers" should be placed in a small capsule and blasted somewhere very far way. May there synthesised drivel and mimed performances never plague people of taste ever again. This includes *growl* McFly and Busted.
ThetaOrionis01
You might want to edit your post there before Dark0ne notices that you mentioned the band which may not be mentioned. I agree with you about manufactured pop - put them on the B-ark with the telephone sanitisers and blast them into space. However... IMO Mozart was the pop idol of 'classical' music... apart from the sublime Requiem, his music is fluff. It's somewhat amusing to see 'classical' grouped together into one genre, when Bach and Stravinski have about as much in common as Bob Dylan and Apoptygma Berzerk.... especially when in the same poll 'rock' is broken up into various splinter groups.
