Fishystick
Actually I think Nirvana are vastly overrated....<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Many people think that bands they aren't fans off are overrated, but it may be true that they're overrated in general, it's just my personal opinion that they're the best band that have ever walked the face of earth. Mojlnir
You are of course, entitled to your opinion. And though it may be misquided its yours and you can keep it. Nirvana was over-rated. They still get massive air time in Seattle, especially on one particularly suck-ass station "cough" 107.7 The End "cough." My opinion: Nirvana sucks. -M
draighox
Well, Cobain was brilliant guitarist. And Nirvana is one the best example of grunge. They developed grunge like no-one else. These are facts. Now, opinion. I think they're not one of the best, they're the best grunge band. Not only grunge, they're the best band in general. ThetaOrionis01
There's no such thing as a 'best' band, given that music is an extremely subjective experience, and that there are potentially as many different tastes in music as there are people on earth. To claim any band as 'best ever' is therefore a somewhat risible statement. Some bands more than others have been groundbreaking, and were influential in the development of musical styles. Others may consist of technically proficient musicians. Others again perfectly capture a certain genre. Others again have huge record sales. Nirvana may be the epitome of 'grunge' - but grunge is just one among many musical styles. Maybe Cobain's guitar playing is good - is it in the same league as Hendrix, or other famous guitarists? I'm sorry to say, but I think if Cobain hadn't killed himself Nirvana would not have the following they have now.
Dark0ne
Similarly, if we were to go into the most talented then I'd have no problem slapping a huge "Winner" sign onto the classical music producers. To be able to orchestrate an orchestra of hundreds of people, and actually make it sound GOOD is far more skilled than four people standing up plucking at strings and slamming sticks against pig-skin. In my opinion of course.
Adelbert
Well, Cobain was brilliant guitarist. And Nirvana is one the best example of grunge. They developed grunge like no-one else. These are facts.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> On this point, I strongly agree. Nirvana did in fact do much for grunge, and that is facts. I know several other bands like Pearl Jam did much for grunge to, but Nirvana was one of the more important. You can't really say if his guitar playing is as good as Jimi's, they had two different styles. Kurt might have been the player best suited for his style, and Jimi might have been the player best suited for his. About the last part, it's commonly known that when an artist from an already known band dies, his/her band gets publicity. It is true that they might or might not have been as famous as they are know. Then again, if Kurt had lives, he could've been making new music at this moment, you never know. They could've been the world's best selling band of all times. Yes, classical music producers are skilled doing what they're doing, but it is actually the members of the orchestra making the music. The producer could be better at what he's doing than anyone else, but if the orchestra itself is rubbish, the music turns out rubbish. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I see the musicians more important than the producer.

Can't have an effective army without the generals orchestrating the tactics, but you can't win without the people on the field with the guns. Unless everyone would learn exactly what to play and when to play it, maybe loose a few hundred members, then you'd have a band instead of an orchestra! Wonderous things you can do with magic, don't ya think?
ThetaOrionis01
No, you'd have a chamber orchestra.
