I have never liked them - since Big Brother started TV has just gone downhill. Hopefully people will get it through their heads soon that the shows are a waste of time and money, and they can get back to making quality entertainment (Simpsons).

Stupid and pointless says it all, really. Reality shows are boring and repetitive IMO, and yet tons of people watch them. I don't want to see a bunch of celebs swearing eachother for 12 hours, thanks :tongue2:

And ever since these things started, everything is trying to copy them, just because they think it will make their show more popular. Kind of pathetic, really.

A semi-interesting idea originally, but after 1000 clones, it's become very, very lame.

From what I've seen, when competion is a part of shows, they suck, but when it's teamwork centered, they *can* be pretty good. For instance, there's one called Mythbusters (on TLC?) that probably can be counted as a reality show, entertaining and informative.

P.S. Reality, or unscripted drama? After all, in real life, the obnoxious guy doesn't get 'voted off', they just get shunned.

Hey, loveme4whoIam, you sound an OLD man with a comment like that! "I remember in my young days..." Hobbles four feet on zimmer frame and falls over.

I dislike the so-called reality, ha ha, shows but I know plenty of sane, intelligent people who watch them. They see them in the same way as I might watch a whodunit, because after a day's work you sometimes need mindless entertainment. Other people can't stand defective series. I'm sure we all have our own escape routes (music, alcohol, drugs, on-line computer games - whatever rocks your boat). The fact that I can't see what others find remotely interesting in reality tv (or soaps for that matter) doesn't mean they don't have a purpose.

What I do agree with you on is that there seems to be less and less television of the OTHER type - designed to make you think. But perhaps this is because what there is is now spread across so many channels?
