Vortex Profile Save Game File Path Anomaly

Problem: When using a profile, the save file location presented by the profile does not match the actual save file location. The folder being utilized is from another profile that has been deleted.

 

Question: Is there a configuration file that can be text edited that contains the path information for Save Games?

Background: I set up an SSE 1.5.97 game with over 2,000 mods in late 2021, and I have been playing that same game for a year and a half. I decided to upgrade to SSE 1.6.640, so I used Vortex to delete the old profile and all of its saves. Now, every profile that I use is storing every Save Game in the old save location for the deleted profile that I was using for a year and a half. It is as if the Save Game location has become "Baked In" or "Hard Coded" in some way. Pre-existing profiles, cloned profiles, and new profiles all do the same thing. The Save Games folder is empty for each profile. All profiles are having their Save Games dumped into this one, old, erroneous folder, even though the slider for "This profile has its own save games" is turned ON, and the Profile states "Save Games Yes"

 

I have tried the following:

1. Created a folder with the correct name per the info on the Profile.
2. Moved the Save Game files to the correct folder
3. Deleted the erroneous folder.
4. Click the Save Game tab in Vortex and see the Save Games listed
5. Start the game, it cannot find the Save Games and there is no Continue or Load option, only New
6. Start a new game
7. The old erroneous folder is created again and it places the new Save Game files there.
8. Move the previous Save Games files to the old erroneous folder, the game finds them again and will allow me to Continue or Load.

Make sure you're not overriding the save games path in SkyrimCustom.ini or an INI loaded by a plugin.

The savegame location is set in Skyrim.ini (in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition), section [General] -> SLocalSavePath

Vortex will update that setting every time you deploy so

a) You can't manually override this in this location

b) It won't be outdated unless you haven't actually ever deployed your new profile

 

However, as Picky suggested, you might have this setting in SkyrimCustom.ini, that would take precedence over what Vortex is assigning.

Thanks, gents! That was it! It was correct in Skyrim.ini, but had the "old" location in SkyrimCustom.ini. Is it possible BethINI might have done this? I was having to adapt my laptop video settings to a hospital room TV around the date of the SkyrimCustom.ini last modification (06Nov2022). I certainly did not do it on purpose... and I can't think of any other changes being made. My load order hasn't changed in over a year.

 

Any suggestions on what might have changed it so I can prevent future problems?

Hrmm, good question. I'm using BethINI myself, never had that kind of problem so at least that's not a common problem with that tool.
