Peregrine
I love Halo and would have to say its my second most favourite game out there the first one was great and the second is even better. How can you say its not good when millions of fans went wild about it coming out! Millions of fans went wild because they finally had something to justify the money they wasted on their xboxes. Had Halo been a PC release from the beginning, it never would've been that popular.
Chaosmaker
But it wasn't a PC release untill after the Xbox release. But I must admit the PC version was to laggy so I dought that there will be a release of Halo 2 on PC. But still the matter of fact is that it was smart marketing to release it when they did, as well as it having many new feature's that people used to not have in other FPS. Plus I love the Xbox live and I don't think it is a curse.
Peregrine
That's my point, it wasn't a PC release, because it would've been a failure there. Instead, someone finally released a decent FPS for the xbox. Halo's overwhelming popularity was due to the simple fact that there wasn't anything else worth playing on the xbox. Of course it's a "must own" game on the xbox, because there's no competition. Compare that to the PC release, which was quickly ignored. If the game itself was as good as its fans claim, it would've found equally massive popularity with the PC audience. But it didn't, and joined the collection of decent but unimpressive FPSs. Chaosmaker
I think the PC version was completly ignored because people already had the Xbox version and didn't buy it. Good choice. Also because it got bad review's because of it's lag.
CrazyGilbert
imagine is lock on was for peole on foot! but all in all the power of the rocket launcher is just the same as before. the shotgun and pistol got toned down in the second game making it it harder as well -CG

Dark0ne
In which case, I ask again: why do I still enjoy it and play it regularly despite having a load of games sitting on my PC which are considered superior? I'd consider Far Cry and, dare I say it, Half Life 2 superior to Halo 2 but I'll often just want to sit down on a couch and relax and play a game of Halo/Halo 2 on the XBox. Can't explain it, but it's what consoles are good for.
Bullet_shrapnel
So would I. My point was that if what is being suggested was true (that Halo is only popular because there is nothing else worth playing on the Xbox and clearly all gamers live in a vacuum) then surely I wouldn't enjoy it still with all those games available for me to play. Every game has at least a few strong fans, and a few who enjoy playing it occasionally. I guess you're one of them. My point was that the massive popularity of Halo is far out of proportion to its actual quality, because it was the first (and still one of the few) good game for the xbox. Zmid
Was Halo a groundbreaking game? Not really. It came up with a couple of new ideas (or ones I had never seen before, anyway), such as the shield which automatically recharged if you simply took cover and didn't get injured, but it didn't really redefine the standard for FPS games. Was Halo a good game? Yes. It had a good storyline, the AI was sharp, it had a good mix of intense action in certain sections, stealth in others, and, despite the fact it was actually pretty linear, it didn't feel linear, and the multiplayer was superb. Are Halo and Halo 2 the best games on the Xbox? Probably. Are Halo and Halo 2 the best games ever? No. There are better games out there, but not all that many.
