The Witcher 3 GOTY no deployment method available even though the mod folder is on the same drive as the game

Title says it all, I get a notification "Mods can't be deployed." telling me to set the mod staging folder to the same drive as the game, even though it is on the same drive a the game.

As you can see on the attached file on the left, the mod staging folder is "F:\Vortex Mods\{game}" and on the right, the game is installed in "F:\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY", same drive.

I have the GOG GOTY version of the game installed from GOG Galaxy and I don't have any mods installed yet (duh), I tried restarting Vortex, doesn't do anything, I haven't tried restarting the PC yet because I'm downloading something and don't want to cancel it, when I try to stop managing the game, I get "Failed to purge" error.

Edit: I realized that it installed the script merger, I don't know how it did that since there is "nO DePLoymEnT mEThoD" but all I did was click yes on a "install script merger" popup. Oh and Vortex sees the game location correctly, it recognized it automatically.

Read the title again, the folder and the game are on the same drive, as for the permissions, all other games (Cyberpunk 2077 and Fallout: New Vegas) work just fine with the same drive and staging folder, so this should work too.

What does the "more information" in the notification tab say?

When I click "Fix" on the notification it says that:

 

Move deployment (Experimental)

Problem

Works only if mods are installed on the same drive as the game

Solution

Please go to Settings->Mods and set the mod staging folder to be on the same drive as the game.

 

Clicking "Apply Fix" just takes me to the Setting->Mods tab that is on the attached screenshot. It also lists some other deployment methods that say "Can't be solved."

So I have to install the game on the C: drive basically? Why the f*#@ would anyone want to do that...

Sounds like it is because TW3 puts its menu information in the My Documents folder for some reason.

 

Do you know if your other games are using hardlinks or symlinks?

Its odd but technically required for hard links. Symbolic links not working is likely permission issues, as the nexus wiki says.

On the outside, you could always have Windows move your "My Documents" folder to the F drive.
