More General Question About Vortex Operation

Using Vortex 1.9.5.

I have large mod collections I use for both Fallout4 and SkyrimSE, so I'm trying to understand how things are arranged by Vortex.

I understand that I need to have the game(s) and the staging folder(s) on the same drive, and I have both Steam games installed on my D:\ drive.

One of my goals is to keep the large number of mods in each collection separate from one another. In settings, I have set my Staging folder to be "D:\VortexMods\Staging\{GAME}." This appears to work correctly, so that when my active profile is SkyrimSE, it shows the Staging folder as "D:\VortexMods\Staging\skyrimse." (attachment 'staging.')

This doesn't seem to work with the Downloads folder(s), though. I have set my Dowloads folder to "D:\VortexMods\Downloads," but it doesn't seem to take the {GAME} designator. If I add \{GAME} and then click "Apply", it tells me that it is the same - that is, Vortex says "D:\VortexMods\Downloads\{GAME}" points to the same place as "D:\VortexMods\Downloads." (attachments 'downloads folder 1' and 'downloads folder 2.')

Is that expected behavior? It is certainly possible that I just don't understand something, and there's a reason the two (Downloads and Staging) don't and/or shouldn't behave the same way.

Just looking for enlightenment.

Thanks.

If you click the little info button next to the instructions for the downloads folder I believe it will tell you that Vortex automatically appends the games name to the main downloads folder. This is likely the source of the problem since you are telling it to do something it already does.

This is because the staging folder can only be on the same drive as the game so all the staging folders are independent of each other and the "settings" info changes as you manage different games.

But the downloads folder can be on any drive (generally a bigger slower one) so there is only one downloads folder and then a bunch of sub-folders. The "settings" info does not change as you manage different games.
