Gerhed
So, I've seen this topic has already been covered and there's a solution, but I don't understand the fix. Where do I find the steam install file? Where is this file I'm supposed to move those saves into?
Solution showler Posted December 20, 2023 Solution Share Posted December 20, 2023 Your steam install directory is probably something like "c:/program files(x86)/steam". Inside that folder should be one called "userdata" and inside of that should be a bunch of folders with just numbers for names. You'll be looking for a recently modified one that contains your save files (which will end with .fos). You'll need to copy them back to your "documents/my games/fallout4/saves" directory. AugustaCalidia
To "future proof" your game saves, you may want to rename your "saves" directory every time you close your game for the day. I have done this for years in order to prevent Steam from meddling with my saves. So far it has worked.
showler
That is probably easier than copying the whole thing to another drive like I've been doing.

Well, I do that also. Is that caution or paranoia?

I always use the name that I've given to my player character.

I play with the script extender F4SE and all my save files generated are still found in "documents/my games/fallout4/saves." They are F4se files. However, when I try to load up the game using vortex/f4se it doesn't see any of my saved games. Should I be copying over all of the .fos files to this same folder? Sorry I am not too familiar with this. Haven't played since december, that's why I am replying to this thread. It was started at the same time that I stopped playing. EDIT: That's what I did. I copied all of the .fos files to the saves folder quoted above. They were pasted next to the f4se files. Now I have all of my saves back. Awesome. Thank you!
