DirebearCoat
I am brand new to the modding, thing. I have Skyrim SE. I was going to try a mod several months ago, but the mods didn't work, because I was already deep into a game, and I guess the mods don't work unless it's a new character that you're starting. However, then the Creation Club thing came up, and from what I understand, wrecked all of the mods. Has the Creation Club / Nexus mods / Vortex compatibility thing been sorted out? How do I get started, now that all of these changes have occurred, or are the mods still borked? Also, I've seen that there are these complex lists of mods that have been compiled to all install and are already preconfigured to work out of the box, kind of speaking. If everything is sorted out, how do I know which lists are better, or still buggy, etc?
greyday01
Most mods work if installed mid-game. Only a few won't and this is usually in the description.
scorrp10
As mentioned, vast majority of mods will work just fine if installed mid-game. Especially mods that enhance the looks of things. Mods that change a certain part of the world are best installed before visiting that part of the world. I.e. a Breezehome overhaul mod should not be installed after you bought/visited Breezehome. "Creation Club" did not really wreck anything. Bethesda updating the game, did however. But 'wreck' is too strong a word. Majority of mods were not affected at all. Only those that include SKSE plugins. And since then, most of those were updated.
scorrp10
Here is a very good guide to get you started https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Skyui_Skse64_installation_guide However, a couple things first. It is recommended you do a clean install of Skyrim SE, or at least verify file integrity. Then launch the game at least once from Steam, make sure you can start new game. Once you are doing that cart ride, you can open console (~) and use qqq to exit. In game properties in Steam, select it to update only when you launch the game (from Steam). After this, you set the game only to be launched from Vortex via SKSE. After that, you can go ahead and start adding mods. Be sure to read descriptions and make note of requirements and conflicts. But 'wreck' is too strong a word. Yup, from what I gather, the most visible problems were: SKSE being broken until its authors updated it to the changes. (Thus temporarily breaking all SKSE mods -- some of which also needed updating for the changes.) And mods being disabled on startup, despite being enabled in the launcher and/or their mod manager. People soon figured out what was going wrong -- a few of SSE Engine Fixes' settings aren't compatible with the new SE version -- and a workaround exists for those affected. Indio21
I just started my LO before the end of January. New install for game version and all the CC content. I currently am at 610 active plugins. I still have some not enabled to work through. My game runs great at a flat 60 fps, and, unless I messed something up in LO or the mod rules for the loose files, everything is solid. As I had a long break from just starting to learn modding, I found and followed a guide so I didn't have to get updated on all the current fixes, tools, etc. The author is known in the community and helped me back when I was first learning is why I settled on his guides. He spells all the steps out very simply and I had very minimal issues following it. The nice thing is he lists several fix mods and settings as he goes. As I ventured down this learning before, and want a large LO, I used his large LO guide. I will provide a link to his small LO guide below, but the author has several guides available. Not just on LOs, but modding too. Just click his avatar and down his page you will see more guides of his. I think it has to be expanded as he has more than initially shown there. Anyways, as you are new to modding, I suggest you follow one of these guides to at least get the base of the game established. Hope it helps. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2738338974 Edited February 23, 2024 by Indio21
DirebearCoat
Everyone, thanks for all of your replies! There does seem to be a lot to unpack, so I'll still be watching this thread for additional advice.
phobosia
Hi, I tried editing the file that engine fixes .toml made but I just get this error now and the same issue as before, any ideas?
7531Leonidas
According to comments on the mod page, your problem occurs when you have not installed the part 2 of Engine Fixes correctly. For your convenience, here is the comments page directly ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17230?tab=posts ) the ppl posting the corrections do not have author privileges, so they have to keep bumping to comment. Scan the responses, and see if anything applies.
phobosia
Hiya, this fixed the error message at the start, appreciate it, however my mods still aren't activating. Is it possible another mod is causing this? I have an achievement enabler mod installed too, this one specifically. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/245?tab=description Edit: Nevermind, I found the issue, I had two versions of engine fixes installed that was causing a clash. Removing the 2nd one fixed it, thank you! Edited February 24, 2024 by phobosia
