Our digital certificate has renewed since you last installed a version and the auto-updater is just being overly careful. If you download the latest version from the site and manually install it, then all will be fine.

Any problems, give us a shout.

should not the internal updater handle things like this?

No. Your version is so far out of date it can't auto update anymore.

For context we had to update our security certificate (which tells your PC that Vortex is safe). Originally the certificate was issued to "Black Tree Gaming Limited", however, when we renewed it they changed the name to "Black Tree Gaming LTD". Vortex assumes the name must be an exact match to the first one.

We released an intermediate version which accepts both names, but if you never updated for the several months that version was live, this error will occur. It's annoying but it's just a couple of extra clicks as a one off and you'll be back in business

  • 2 months later...

Version: 1.9.5 Unknown.

I have been working with this version for quite some time now. Efforts on New Vegas since 2021 on the same massive mod list. Hundreds of hours of patching, editing, moding. I reached a point where i fear the slightest problem with Vortex will mess everything up. What is more, i am struggling right now, doing that with an unfamiliar Vortex would only add to the suffering.

I will wait until i have finished moding New Vegas. Better safe than sorry.

But, at least, now i know what the problem is with Vortex. I was somewhat worried. I have seen this "checking for update failed" red message for months on end now. Thanks for the info.
