Overwhelmed by the number of mods, came back to play in April 2024...

And here is another heavy hitter in mods, a location and quest and new lands mod all in one: but dont start this one until you are higher level and have done a lot of other things because after this everything else will seem anticlimactic:

South of the Sea Atoms Storm.

Remember those pesky unfriendly but generally weak, Children of atom?

Well ,theyare mad as hell and are not going to take the contempt of the unbelivers anymore, under the leadership of a new prophet they are building a small Army in the glowing sea. They are well equipped with weapons from the glowing Sea because nearly no one , except them, goes there so its mostly unlooted.

(This  Miracously does not conflict with Atomic World which also builds in the Glowing Sea!), miles and miles of underground CoA settlements and catacombs and more subways and even a Hades location, yes you heard right, "Hades")

Oh and some Swamp folk settlements added too:

What's so cool and uplifting to me is that I've never tried and often never heard of most of the mods 363rd mentioned. It makes me marvel with delight at how much diversity and amazing potential modded Fallout 4 can have )Which I think brings us back to Scarrwith2rs' sense of being overwhelmed.

363rd's list is awesome for you, but don't jump in and try everything at once. That is what gets you overwhelmed.

Look at the ideas, and just try one at a time, reading the descriptions of each mod and making sure you have all dependencies installed with them 🙂

I know I probably put down more than he will dare to install for now, but I know with the show we will get a lot of folks asking this same question so I figured I'd put some extra content into my answer 🙂

Today I've been playing for the first time (for me) a location/quest mod called Attack of the Lobotomites. It's remarkably good at making a spooky atmosphere with jump scares. I'm probably doing it with a too-weak character (my first enemy I killed took three full 13-round magazines of .38 ammo to kill, and I went in with only around 150 bullets, haha. So I switched to using stealth with a .45 ACP). I'm not terribly far in the quest, but I really love mods like this, and this one is very well made.

Thanks for the link. Working my way through a new playthrough. have only done about 35% of my mod added content and am already level 52 :D.

But some of the most fun moments are when you are not too strong a character using clever tactics over brawn to win your fights.

I agree with this so much. On a related note, as you know, I don't use armor, and I have my game set to give 10x damage against me. When I first went into Attack of the Lobotomites, I was also wearing Ice storm high heel shoes (which make loud noises and make sneaking nearly impossible).

When I realized this was going to be too hard without stealth for the number of bullets I had, I removed all my character's clothing and went full-silent stealth. It's super fun.

On a side note with that Wilderness mod you linked in the other thread (it's fantastic), I drowned while swimming around a dozen times and finally caved in and took the breathe under water perk *Laughs* I usually try to wait as long as possible to take that perk so I can experience the tension of running out of air, but at some point it's just better to explore for the sake of exploring 🙂

I think I can offer a slightly different perspective than Karna. I like the vanilla art style and avoid altering it and my base game play loop centers around the Minutemen and settlement building. I also value game stability and the addition of practical mechanics over visual or story enhancement. With that in mind I have two seperate lists.

I use Vortex to Install and WryeBash to sort my load order and build a bashed patch(combines data from multiple plugins to avoid overwrites).

Base Game: I never play without these

Settlement Building:

  • Better Settlers Adds more than 240 new settlers to the vanilla settler selections. Optionally mortal as well.
  • Settlers of the Commonwealth Adds 31 recruit-able, unique, fully voiced settlers to the Commonwealth.
  • Visible Idle Markers Build around vanilla idles rather than over.
  • Workshop Vanilla Idles Build your own vanilla idles.
  • Move Workshop Markers Allows you to move the Center, Spawn(friendly) and Caravan markers as well as any enemy spawns inside the workshop area.
  • Have a Safe Fast Travel When the workshop place-able fast travel mat doesn't work, use this. Allows you to move fast travel marker.
  • Snappy House Kit Contains about a dozen modular building sets from the CK made snap-able and many include pre-fabs. Pieces from a couple of the sets snap to the already placed pieces in Taffington Boathouse and Croup Manor allowing you to quickly repair the structures rather than rebuilding them. Individual sets can be culled through configuration to lessen menu clutter.
  • Homemaker Contains a wide variety of unique objects as well as the complete set of cabins and house pre-fabs from Sunshine Tidings and Covenant.
  • cVc Dead Wasteland THE largest object collection that expands just about everything workshop related. Includes smaller scale water and power solutions for early game.
  • Warehouse Extension Set & Clean with Greenhouses and Sprinklers Adds many unique pieces as well as interior supports and full sprinkler system used in Greygarden.
  • Not Just Basements Clones many vanilla interiors(including most clutter) and turns them into workshop connected spaces you can add to your settlement.
  • Universal Disassembler Settlement machine AND portable aid object that breaks down junk AND weapons and armor into components.
  • Snap Beds Double beds and bunk beds NPCs will actually use. Huge variety.
  • Vertical Wall Mounted Conduit With thin and thick wall pass through and modular design.
  • Graf's Security Fences Superior snap, variety and function to any other chain link fencing.

Oh yeah, I knew I was forgetting another location/quest mod of high quality: Whispering Hills

One of my more popular films I made was made inside this mod, but I'm not confident I understand the posting rules for this forum so won't risk linking the film.  I think it would be safe, but I'm not sure 🙂

@363rdChemicalCompany, since you like location/exploration mods, dunno if you tried Maxwell's World, but I played it a couple of times. it's one of the good ones as well.

I have tried to start it but it seemed a very buggy. Maybe a mod conflict. I will revisit it if you recommend it.

and to the OP Scarrr, before I forget Luxors texture mods do everything they say they will. I have the 4k version on my desktop and the 2k version on my laptop ( since my laptop screen is "only" 2k)

This is generally agreed to be a better HD texture upgrade than the Bethesda HD pack .

before that ,I was using "the poor man's HD overhaul" ;Vivid fallout all-in-one which is also quite nice. Though, they overlap in what they try to accomplish; but  Vivid-fallout-all-in-one  may be better for older rigs as its less upgrading, though in all fairness Vivid's water seems just as good .

At this point in time I'd suggest just waiting for Fallout: London to release.

It's less than 2 weeks away and will literally be a complete game overhaul using the Fallout engine.

------

Otherwise I'd suggest what Worm82075 suggested.    Your primary focus should be on solidifying your foundation (bug fixes, scripting engine and key frameworks - to include getting your User Interface sorted).

After that, the rest is completely subjective - i.e. it's totally dependent on what kind of content you want in your game.
