Pagafyr
After I installed Alcohol 120% using their trick I never needed to install the Morrowind CD. I put it in a protective case. Windows 10 promised good things and because I was always interested in their upgrades Alcohol 120% didn't work after Windows 10 was installed. Never got an update that fixed it from them either. After that I got the CD out of the case and put it in to play it. Didn't work anymore. I tried buying a new DVD READ WRITE player. Still couldn't read the Morrowind CD. I wiped off with special cloths to clean CDs. Didn't work. Since that day back when the Free install Upgrading all of our Windows 7 I haven't played Morrowind. I realize I could have bought another copy from GOG or STEAM, but I was being pigheaded about doing that since it seemed to me that the problem that was keeping my Morrowind CD from working just was beyond my understanding. Two days ago I put the CD in a laptop and tried it. Didn't work. I was down in the dumps mentally again. Just didn't seem good to me to give in and buy one of the DRM free versions. The sentimental feelings I had for that first edition GoTY Morrowind disc and not being able to use it. Drove me crazy. I tried to find another game that gave me the sense that Morrowind does. I was really feeling down again when I realized the reason I spent so much time and money trying to find a game to replace that empty space in me. I was looking at the monitor. I could see my faces expression on the black background screen. I saw something blue near the right bottom of the monitor. Made me think the monitor was crying with me. I looked closer, saw what the blue thing was. Picked it up and gave the Morrowind CD the works with what the blue item was for. It fixed my Morrowind CD. It is a special kind of cloth made to clean monitors. It sure works good. I can play Morrowind again!!! Weird yet, was; after I got it working I was thinking of playing one of the other games I got. Instead I decided to relax and let my excitement of having Morrowind ready to play. It's like having a friend arrive after all these years of being separated to spend the day with me.
Guest deleted156886133
@Pagafyr I was prepared to give you my 'All the ways I loathe Windows, let me count the ways and convince you to defect to Linux' speech until 3/4's of the way down. So, your disc was dirty this whole time? I've said it before and I'll say it again, sometimes it's the simple things that perplex us. Glad you got it sorted out though. Weren't you considering installing OpenMW a few months back? Was that because of the disc issue and you were searching for another way to play Morrowind? Pagafyr
I was thinking about OpenMW. It was about the disc problem. The strange thing about it being dirty was that it was a film that was almost like a layer of cooked dust. The new cloth for cleaning a Screen has some kind of fiber that really strips away the humidity vapor from our heated breath. The disc polish, the strip cleaner, and electronic disk cleaner didn't clear that off. After all these years someone created the cloth that cleaned. It came with a set. Each with it's own purpose. Glass, Screen, plastic. I was amazed how the disc looked after I took it out of the player and saw how clear it is. Morrowind was the first ever video game that filled my mind with wonder. I couldn't figure out how I damaged the disk, because it was in a protective sleeve all the while that I had Alcohol 120% to launch from. Thx for thinking on it.
zixi
@Pagafyr I'm pleased too. The OpenMW thing is still there as something to try one rainy afternoon. @UsernameWithA9 - I didn't realise (or have forgotten) that you're a Linux person. Agree absolutely. Pagafyr could then play the game that is modding on Linux. It's a lot easier these days. Once, it had one setting - extremely hard...

You forgot because we've discussed it before but no worries. As for Pagafyr, he messaged me soon after this thread and I directed him towards some OpenMW install documentation. Hadn't heard since, but it's late. He'll be back.
Pagafyr
@zixi After seeing OpenMW I will be tending to my new state of mind, feeling relieved and relax for awhile. I didn't realize how much stress I was having just because I wasn't able to switch over and play Morrowind occasionally. At the moment Morrowind and the construction set were successfully installed felt way, way so relieved. @UsernamewithA9 Thx. I was so excited I wore myself out trying too hard to look at everything that we can do with Morrowind now. After surfing to OpenMW searching the webpage my energy level spiked. I needed sleep. Thx to you both.

Pagafyr
I slept like a log. I am starting to get my positive cells charged to begin again. Research is one of my best learned lessons. I will research OpenMW some today as my agenda permits.

But I've been messing around with new OS recently so I haven't got everything reinstalled properly... life things have intruded... I'll repeat that it's worth having a look at OpenMW. The community around it is interesting in itself. And it turns MW into something at once familiar and different. I much prefer OpenMW. And adding mods to it is sooooo easy! But I'd agree that recharging batteries and getting yourself content is by far the priority. OpenMW will still be there...
