Zorkaz
I want to create a program that easily lets you switch between Fallout 4, London and Frost. (London overwrites Fallout 4 files so it's wise to keep it in a separate installation) What I'm thinking of is: The program will rename save file folders according to the game you want to play. Also the whole folder with the .ini settings. It will rename and switch between the plugins.txt It will start the correct game files, which are in separate folders. Of course the file paths will be customizable for different users. Any ideas or things I am missing?
NeinGaming
I did get Fallout London running as just another portable MO2 profile no problem, without letting it overwrite anything (other than via the usual overwrite system all mods can use). You just have to use their ini settings.
vortexposer
Same for Vortex. As long as downgraded/FOLON "output" files are sequestered in Staging, it will override game folders original copy in Steam, with hardlink to copy of modified vanilla file when deployed (replacing physical up-to-date copies in Steam). Then either set up custom game settings per profile and manually edit or create custom Ini Tweaks file to automatically apply required ini edit when FOLON profile is enabled. Zorkaz
The issue is not about getting it running but keeping it separated. Frost too, as I think it does overwrite the main game too.
Zorkaz
I for myself use the GOG version btw but especially if you are modding keeping the files separate is a must.
NeinGaming
The files do stay separate. Mods don't actually overwrite anything, unless you literally copy them into your FO4 folder, overwriting files. The mod manager, the moment you start the game, takes whatever current mod list you have, applies it in order, then applies the overwrite folder, and creates the virtual file system the FO4 instance you started sees. That doesn't actually overwrite anything any more than a plugin overwrites a master record it overrides. The game still "only sees the conflict winner", and it works that way with mods and mod managers, too. The moment you remove/deactivate the override/mod, whatever was "underneath" gets used instead. dizietemblesssma
Does MO2 handle profile specific ini files? I know Vortex does because like the above responses I have made a mod of FOLON (using the official FOLON install guide) and installed it into a Fallout4 profile. Once the profile was made I copy/pasted the inis that came with the FOLON files using the Vortex ini editor and then adjusted to suit. diziet
NeinGaming
Yeah, pretty much same here using MO2
