I would guess that that portion of the explanation breaks down to:  "Most publishers still don't allow you to make money off mods so it would be difficult/annoying for us to have different rules for the couple that do allow it compared to the rules for every other publisher whose games we support".

Not "fishy" but disappointing.

Bards College Expansion modifies the Bards College interior cells, breaking one of my followers' intro quests and making another follower COMPLETELY inaccessible. A simple patch fixes that and makes it so that people don't have to choose between my mod OR the Bards College Expansion.

Best case, this decision makes it so that I get a bunch of annoyed people making bug reports on my mod that my mod is broken, when in fact, it's your short-sighted policy that caused the problem.

Words fail me, trying to describe how disappointed I am in you all.

My issue with the Bard College Expansion is that it creates an entirely new cell for the interior, thereby breaking every mod on the Nexus that edits the Bard's College. It's a big "stuff you" to every other mod on the Nexus. This forces every mod author to cough up $10 if they want to patch it. A cynical person might think this was deliberate to drive sales. But the issue stands that the rest of the community has no control over this without paying. This sets a bad early example of VC power and the negative possibilities that can play out.

Its a bit of a cop out no?  From Bethesda's standpoint there is no real difference between something from the CC store being patched regardless of who made it. if it came from CC and you paid for it it's functionally "official" so far as they're concerned.

The only place drawing a distinction in Nexus it would have been far easier for them to write it as "We only allow patches for so called paid mods that come from official outlets such as Bethesda's creation club"  instead they've created far more work for themselves having to go through and ensure all the big patch pages don't have the audacity to contain a patch EEE or BCE or the like.

Nexus Mods makes money by selling Premium Subscriptions and from advertising served to people viewing mod pages.

Both of these things are increased by Nexus Mods hosting patches for paid VC mods.  From a business perspective declining to host these mods is a loss.

Nexus Mods, however, has a policy of trying to support the free modding community.  They clearly think this is what they can do to best support the free modding community.

We are well within our rights to try to convince them that this decision is detrimental to the free modding community, not a benefit to it.

And you don't understand Beth's rules well enough to even understand that the stuff you quoted earlier was about using other authors assets in your paid mod, not about compatibility patches, so please stop trying to bring that nonsense up.  As you say...this is our native language, you're the one that's reading it wrong.

Ok then I'm ball let's play the game show me, quote me not what you think or it implies show me in the opening post where, where does the it mention that they will somehow or in some way affect ban, limit, not host FREE mods/patches, since that is people making it up as it's no where posted... go ahead quote where they mention free mods or patches somehow getting affected, still have 10 mins until my rice is done...i'll wait  🕑  👀

Then leave that up to the individual mod authors whether or not they are willing to go there or even just open their permissions so that others can patch their mod with paid creations. Mod authors who specialize in creating compatibility patches have commented on this very forum expressing their disagreement with this particular rule.

You cannot post a free patch for a paid mod.  So a patch to make Bards College Expansion work with Skyrim's got talent (as a completely made up example) goes against Nexus TOS as it would be dependent on a paid mod.

It's over-cautious to a degree I think is excessive.   However, when you think about the fact that Nexus Mods exists in a reality where any game publisher can send a cease and desist at pretty much any time and force NM to pull all the mods for all their games you can sort of see why they're cautious.

In this case it seems to be about being able to say "Hey, we explicitly made this against the rules for the site and we actively worked to moderate against it, so there's no reason to blame us if you have a problem with any of the content on our site."

NOBODY is saying they are banning patches for free mods.  We're upset that they are banning patches for Paid mods that make those paid mods work with free mods.

If you can't keep up with what the complaint is, then stop arguing about it.

Actually against Bethesdas TOS and that's what everyone is ignoring Bethesda set the precedent for the rule NOT Nexus, so to counter act and protect us, Well if you make a patch for something a end user has to buy or pay to access it behind a paywall then NO, go host it somewhere else!!
You have money to pay for the mod then you should have money to host it or host it personally on your discord, for your personal use and friends but that patch that is NOT FREE as you need paid content for it to work. funny how FREE is not always FREE.
Which by the way does not included what is considered DLC.
