I'm not sure how users having to scrounge up Google Drive links on Reddit or where ever keeps modding simple compared to downloading here. If you want to find a compatibility patch for a mod here and a VC having it here is much simpler in terms of locating it and installing it compared to the in-game system where you can't do something like a FOMOD and instead need to download 10 different patches on 10 different pages using the awful in-game UI.

That's the point. By discouraging the development of VC there won't be a need for patches thereby making it easy for their users. It's a win:win for Nexus mods. As I said that's my take on why they're doing this, but I could be off the mark.

I for one support the ban on patches and dependencies. If someone wants to sell a mod, they should be obligated to provide patching support too. Relying on unpaid work performed by third parties to make your product more profitable is a ludicrous notion.

They can't provide any patches due to Bethesda Verified Creations rules.

Do you mean like the very important SKSE, Address Library, Fnis/Nemesis/Pandora and such? thanks to tools such as those, is that we have been able to crack the engine and keep making it better and better for modding, can't leave it out at this point, and that's what beth wants, so it can completely cut ties with the free community without having to say it or do anything else.

So we're playing divorce court with Bethesda? Over Starfield of all things? Is that where we're at as a community?

Most of the Verified Creators are people that have been cash cows for Nexus' ad revenue1  and telling people NOT to contribute to what this entire community is built upon2 purely because of their content not being directly labeled as Creation Club3 is such a bizarre stance. Between this and the decision of allowing genAI content on a "ask forgiveness, not permission" basis, it looks like the creatives you put on a pedestal only serve until the convenience wears off or they want to be compensated.

The biggest site for mods putting in a policy like this will kill Starfield's mod community further than anything else could have.

1 -Trainwiz, Elianora, several dozen others
2-modifying free AND paid content by other developers and authors

3-even though these VCs have made a good chunk of Creation Club creations

That's what they don't get, even if I posted it so they can read it, they seem to want to ignore it in exchange for the ideal perspective of how they THINK it is or should be.
But all you can do is just put the info out there, and hope someone can understand it and benefits from it.

I'm pretty sure they can, they just can't charge money for the patches.

They can not is a RULE if you want to join the program, there is no if's and's or but's about it, look a few post back, I quoted the main ones for this topic from their page.

The problem is that you're wrong.  Paid VC can't have dependencies.  Free mods through Bethesda.net can have all the dependencies you want.
