363rdChemicalCompany
My use case is this: I spend a lot of time managing NPCs inventories, to make them more plausible for the game world. That goes for settlers, Minuteman Militia, DC guards and many others. My primary tool for that, is this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/68030?tab=files Its fantastic, in that it allows me to save a given equipment set (clothes, armor, ammo, and weapon) of a given equipped NPC as a preset and then via hotkey equip other NPCs with that gear out of thin air. It even tracks keywords on the armor and weapons; so full weapons bench levelled Weapons and Armor with paints on them even the odd mild legendary or so can be transferred in this manner. (but I do nothing OP, no explosive miniguns or the like for any of my NPCs) You can have 20 presents saved if memory serves ( I havent counted in a while, I may be off, but they are limited) but this is enough IMO. It does have a couple of bugs however, for one, every time I hotkey one of the NPCs with this mods' activation hotkey, they not only add the schedule gear from the preset but also randomly autoequip with their leveled list of gear,.. 2 or 3 or even 4 times over! So when I equip for example a DC Guard with a full set of Medium Combat Armor, a couple hundred rounds, An Army uniform, an AR15 rifle and a baseball cap or whatever) via a preset; Then when I then check their inventory, on top of the different gear I justed equipped them with, they will have 2-4 sets of DC guards clothing/armor, and maybe 3 or even 4 of the random DC guard guns in their inventory. This creates extra nonsense for the game to track on the NPCs and also I worry about the extra weight on low SPECIAL Strenght value NPCs. So I come around and go into their invenory again and pick up all that junk, which is a LOT. Then depending on my carry weight at the time, I go to the next NPC to liberate him of junk or right away into a garbage can it goes. Either way, eventually it all either goes into the garbage, or depending on the gear, into a settlement workshop. Thing is, the items are all willy nilly in my inventory, alphabetical mixed with my own weapons /armor/ aid items, junk items, quest items, books, magazines, ammo, holotapes, notes etc etc etc, so its hassle to de-junk myself. This is why I ask for a sorting mod. Why do I not want a DEF-UI requiremnt? Because I have a 21:9 monitor and on .163 game version which I use, I made it work with a mod. This mod has different options based on UI and its size, and also whther you have DEF_UI or not.. and I just know if I downaload a manipulation of the UI it will mess everything up badly. (just toggling the wrong button on my NVIDIA control panel for example has nuked my display in the past) So anyone have any recommendation for a mod to help me? fraquar
Pretty much the standard is Complex Item Sorter by M8r98a4f2. It's script based and runs against your entire load order.
subaverage
I don't use any item sorting mods. This is one I've seen from time and it seems that it doesnt't need DEF-UI. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3877?tab=description
Squirrel97
I recommend the FallUI mods. FIS - The NEW FallUI Item Sorter FallUI - Inventory I've also created an add-on mod for the FallUI Item Sorter myself. It adds new icons and categories for Vtaw's and DonEb14n's clothing: FIS - Vtaw and DonEb14n Clothing Sorting.
363rdChemicalCompany
Big thank you to everyone who answered! Sorting through these now to decide which one will work for me.

I'll check that out too. I'm using FallUI's item sorter, but I still can't figure out how it organizes some stuff.
fraquar
At the end of the day figure out if you even need it - only you know if you do. Ex. I used to use them, now I don't. I realized I'm not a hoarder, so the variations of names didn't matter much. Rename Anything means what actually use doesn't conform to naming conventions anyway. I usually use rename anything to name my common weapons and armors, ( for example "Sensing Flecktarn T51F Helmet , Medical Minuteman T51D torso, etc just to T51F Helmet, T51D Torso to keep everything groupoed together. BUT rename anything does not appear to work on half of my profiles incliding ym most advanced playthrough. Not sure why, everything is enabled, and the mods lists are almost identical...
