Mod Browsing Overhaul Discussion

The current site design genuinely hurts my eyes and makes it very hard to read. I will not be able to use Nexus much if it stays the way it is, and I'm sure there are lots of people in the same boat. Idk what exactly it is, but the colors (which you mention in the first post) are a huge part of it, and the fonts if you've changed them. I never used to have problems, I could browse for hours at a time; now I can barely make it through a single mod description.

Exactly this.
With the previous UI, I WANTED to browse for hours at a time.
I cannot stand TILE WEBSITES Period, they're foolish, overly large, comical, and unnecessarily difficult to read, and navigate, because the information is strewn all over the page..

This UI design trend of “All the cool websites are doing it”, is WHY I don't use all those other websites that use tiles either. It's goofy.

I would be posting more in this thread but since the forums went to a darker and harder to read for long periods of time colour scheme I haven't posted to much (last year's thread I was a top poster on the theme change). But my posts from a year ago when this was only profiles/forums are still very relevant so I quote some of them below.

Long story short, I warned devs/mods more people would be vocal about the eye strain/discomfort once it was full site. Devs basically said/say they have no plans for compromise over our top concerns which seem to be the same top concerns a year later.

I believe the devs are relying heavily on the indifference of the silent majority (and to be perfectly honest not even relying on the positive feedback, though I am sure it helps when they get some). However, the indifferent would in theory also not be opposed or against the vocal minority, who are getting genuine eye strain/pain or those simply desiring to reverting back or wanting less wasted space/less efficient set up that seems too much geared to mobile friendly.

In terms of opinions, facts, efficiency, debate, reasoning, etc. Anyone (either side) can indefinitely use "select information", reasonings, etc. to argue and keep in place their agenda (and this is their site/company they ultimately can do whatever they want) but it would show the vocal community a great deal of respect and validity with compromise. I understand they cannot please everyone but the top concerns seem to be the same top concerns from a year ago, and if reverting back or an option to toggle to classic isn't an option (but cloning the style/function should be possible even updating/upgrading the site)—at least the wasted space, high contrast and less efficient UI should be addressed/compromised.

That text size is incredibly small and not easy to read/accessible for visually impaired people. Increasing the text size to something legible makes it harder to handle all the meta-data while maintaining a balanced hierarchy. If you're used to this view, it'll seem easy to read, but for newer users, its a lot of info to take in.

Honest question. How many people ever complained about the text size before, be they visually impaired themselves, or on behalf of other visually impaired? How do they compare to the number of people complaining now about the new UI and begging you to revert the changes?

Can this please be made optional again? I do not like the UI change and it is now almost impossible to read what each mod is. In general it is hard on the eyes. Please allow us to choose whether we want to have it or not, just make it a setting? I will stop using nexusmods most likely forever if this doesn't happen

Hi! So my silence won't be taken as approval, I'm being forced to post! Lovely.

I find the UI update to be unappealing. Aesthetically it feels too "mobile" for my tastes, but I also can't accept how much space a singular mod now takes on the page. Very style over subtance.

This bit is purely personal, but I recall it being mentioned that collections being shoehorned onto the mods page was supposed to be a positive thing? I felt fairly ambivelent about collections prior to this. Now that I'm seeing the same two thrown in my face as a PRIORITY above NEW RELEASES I absolutely abhor them. Congrats?

Also, will there be a publically available poll that site users can vote on? I say publically, since that last HotJar poll (that totally happened) flew so far under the radar there isn't a single person in this thread or on reddit that even knew it existed. If, by the staff's own admission, that's only a small sample size of the userbase, why not host a larger poll? Include it in an upcoming newspost for the site. Increasing the sample size can only benefit development, no? If feedback is as overwhelmingly positive as is being reported, there's no reason not to.

When clicking on updated mods in your notifications it goes to the Files tab instead of the Description tab of the mod page. I feel this discourages the reading of the mod description. Not all updates are just download and copy over the old version. Please revert it to go back to the main mod page, the Description tab.
