Mod Browsing Overhaul Discussion

And with that, I'm done. I'll check the Nexus from time to time to read and if need be, respond to any comments on mods I've uploaded, maybe check out new mods that I've heard about.

Who knows? At some point, there might be enough meaningful changes to the UI and the search feature that will actually make me spend as much time as I used to, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

This right here, is perfectly worded, and I share the same opinion. I personally think a lot of users probably think the same way.
Right now the site-traffic will stay kinda the same probably, because for certain games, there aren't a lot of alternatives.

But if nothing is changed, users (and modders) will probably find a new home for their mods, and the site-traffic will slow down over time.
I just hope the staff will be able to turn the tide if something like that happens, as I've seen it happen with a few other very specific and niche websites.

They kinda just faded away.

Seeing the response a few posts above yours, does show that there are gears turning, I'm curious to see what news the staff will bring us.
I don't think the changes can be reversed, but I'm hoping then can recreate the old format, look and feel of the website. It may be gradually, but thats always better then nothing.

I've been using the Skyrim SE, Stardew, and BG3 parts of this site for years now and no I have seen zero banners in that period. I use Firefox which I know is not a popular browser so maybe we were just purposefully left out, but it still feels really insulting. I'm genuinely wondering how long I can keep using this site as they did something with the background colour and fonts, so now reading anything here gives me severe eyestrain to the degree I'm risking a migraine from reading through this thread. I see no option to adapt the font or colours to something less stressful, which you would think would be standard in an "update"

Skyrim SE is now a full on middle finger to any mod creator who is new or just not hyper popular, as well as to those of us who just like to try out new stuff, as you have to scroll for days before getting to the "New Mods" section. Everything else, apart from the colour scheme and font, I can learn to live with though it might annoy me, but that feels like a deliberate and purposeful slap in the face to anyone not part of the popular clique.

Hey, regarding the eye strain, there's a stylus(a incredible easy to use browser extension) format for the normal nexus page and this forum to turn the colors into the old gray colors if you look back a few pages. They make these sites so much better to use and haven't experienced any migraine myself yet unlike before.
Unfortunately it seems they will keep the incredible dark colors. But hopefully they will consider some lighter theme option as suggested.

Who knew, modding is fun! @LummoxJR has posted some styles for this as well.

This might get you started: https://github.com/j-m-harris/nexusmods-stylus/blob/main/classic.js

No comment on the new UI intended, this is not reflective of any internal development, no warranty implied or given, etc. This is entirely a quick hack, not tested at different breakpoints, against accessibility guidelines, etc.

But it is fun to play with. 😃

I can read the site again! THANK YOU!

What is the part that the "designer" doesn't get that there people like me, who are IMPAIRED BY the high-contrast colors? I simply can't read/browse the site in the current colors.

There is more than 1 kind of visual impairment! 🤬

Also sort by dates not working properly and showing uploading on wrong date.

Oh thank f*ck, I thought I was losing my mind here. Considering how much they already bury new mods on the front page, at this point I can only assume they're trying to just nuke the modding community completely by preventing new modders from ever getting any sort of visibility by burying them in search too, even when you sort by publishing date. Either that or they decided to release a UI overhaul that they knew was beyond broken but didn't care, nor have cared enough to give a list of know issues with it and a road map for when the most broken stuff will be fixed.

The arrows in that photo is pointing to when the mod was last updated, not when it was originally published (which is what it is being sorted by). We've passed this across to the design team to consider making this clearer as it has confused a few users.

Unfortunately it appears it is only available for Chrome and I refuse to use that browser on a manner of principle, so I guess I'm out of luck.

I'm sorry but in what possible way is it clear that that is the update date and not the upload ditto? And where do I see the upload date on that picture, because if that's not it I cannot spot it but that's what's actually relevant.

Don't know about other browsers, but I'm using Stylus for Firefox. Also, I've made a forums color change style yesterday, if you need that one too https://forums.nexusmods.com/topic/13507498-mod-browsing-overhaul-discussion/?do=findComment&comment=130500081
