Seems it only uses the main files.

I have a mod that has 45 files: 2 main files, one is 124.7MB, the other is 573.2MB. 43 optional files that are between 416KB-283.9MB in size. The most recent file I uploaded was an optional file that is 1.9MB. On my profile it says the mod size is 124.7MB.

For my mod, showing how many files would be better than showing size because downloading the largest file is not necessary to use my mod.

Yes, this seems to be case. However, I have a mod 🙂 with 7 main files - I've been uploading it in parts due to very large size and very, very, very slow upload speeds here. So the file size shown is the one of the most recently uploaded archive, not the total of all main files, which would be better.

I would think the total file size of all main files would be the best number to show.

Overall the look of the new design looks good. That said, the two things I would give serious consideration to (desktop view):

  • The tile dimensions in general are too large, especially the news tiles, which end up looking horsey and hard to scan. I'd recommend using the existing tile dimensions.
  • The space between tiles is too large, which also makes things look horsey and hard to scan. I'd recommend returning to the existing space between tiles. I noted that the space on the Nexus home page is different than the spacing on the individual game pages. The home page spacing is more reasonable.

I'd also second the search tool simply being a dropdown instead of the large modal window -- the dropdown is handy and unobtrusive searching for a mod and isn't as jarring as the modal taking over the page.

Oh, one other item -- I note that you're using fixed width on the main container on the desktop. It would be really nice if the page were responsive reacted to the browser width, such that the number of tiles shown across the page would grow or reduce based on screen resolution. You could still have some margin for aesthetic purposes, but if you have a larger screen, it seems like a lot of wasted space to retain that narrow, fixed-width center container.

Maybe it could be made an option for the author: Show file size or show total number of files.

Would also be nice if we could sort our files and not need to have a 'Main file' and 'Optional file', but instead being able to name them ourselves and create our own. Would be quite useful when you have many files on one page.

We are making changes to parts of the site that have not been updated for over a decade. This is part of our ongoing plan to improve your website experience when browsing or searching for content.
To see the updated pages, simply click the "Join Beta" button on the banner at the top of the changed pages and your device will be opted in.

The key pages we’re focusing on for feedback are the Games and Mods listing pages, as well as Game homepages. We have also released an early version of our new quick search, this is limited to mods for now, but we’ll follow up with further updates to include all content types. While there are some minor styling updates across the rest of the site, these pages have the most significant updates and are our main focus.

As part of the new update, we are removing the left and right side adverts on the new pages. Whilst adverts are a key part of what keeps the lights on, we felt this was the right move to try to improve free users' experience.

Why Update Now?
One of our key goals this year has been transitioning to a modern site architecture. The current system is challenging to maintain, slowing feature development and innovation. Moving to a new framework enables us to improve the user experience, experiment with new features, and keep pace with the evolving needs of the modding community. While this transition temporarily mixes old and new designs, it’s a necessary step toward a better site.

Key Improvements

A More Consistent Experience
Any site that’s been worked on for over 10 years will inevitably accumulate design and technical inconsistencies—think mismatched button styles, typography, and colour schemes. While subtle, these details make the site feel less polished. This refresh introduces a new design system, standardising the fundamentals of our colour palette, typography hierarchy, iconography, spacings and grids. These foundations underpin reusable components (e.g., buttons, forms, tags), making the site more consistent and easier to update. With this system in place, we can focus on solving problems and building new features instead of fixing small UI details.

Easier Mod Discovery
We’ve started with updates to browsing and searching for mods, including improvements to game pages and mod listings. Filters on the mods listing page are now always visible, making them quicker to use. The UI should be clearer to read making it easier to scan through multiple mods. Next, we’re enhancing search to let you find content across all types, including users, for a more intuitive experience.

Improved Accessibility
We believe modding should be for everyone. This refresh prioritises accessibility, ensuring the site is easy to perceive, navigate, and interact with for all users. Updates include: Support for screen readers, Visually accessible colours, Readable typography, Flexible input methods. By following standards like WCAG we’re creating a site that isn’t just inclusive but also easier and more enjoyable for everyone.

Refining the User Experience
Nexus Mods has grown immensely, adding features that make it what it is today. However, there are areas to improve and simplify while keeping the features long-time users love. We’ve approached these updates thoughtfully, aiming to balance simplicity and functionality for a diverse community. This is a challenge! We won’t always get things right the first time — this is an iterative process of improvements — but your feedback helps us refine and improve.

What’s Next?
The next big update focuses on search improvements, making it easier to find the mods and content you’re looking for. We’re also working on an overhaul of the mod page, this is a much larger chunk of work that we’ll aim to ship later in the year. We’ll continue to share our progress and welcome your feedback along the way.

How to give feedback

We are looking for feedback on the following pages:

If you have feedback for us, please use these forms:

General Feedback
Quick Search

Please ensure that you have ad-blockers disabled, as they will interfere with the feedback pop-ups that gather your feedback.

Whilst we love talking through all of your feedback on the Forums or on Discord, we don't make any guarantees we will see it if it is posted there. We are primarily collecting feedback through site usage metrics and the popup surveys found on each of the pages.

Maybe a strange idea and I don't know if it's feasible, but use a different color scheme for each game for which the mod is made, like the different colors in the colors of snow and ice for the page of the mods for Skyrim for example. Or should I have said it strangely?

i found one more design flaw and stupid bugs

So for some reasons you must click "download history" cancel it, do a coffee and click download history again to show actual download history of the user...sounds very stupid, i wonder why you designed it this way? xD

Also this DIM effect for POP-UP window is TOO BLACK (im very proud for not inserting jokes here)

I didn't notice this earlier, but the Report Abuse and Share buttons on a mod page are terribly placed. They should be up toward the top, possibly in the header with the other buttons, not taking up space below the short description. Right now they're just sitting in the middle of the page, interrupting flow for no reason.

Sometimes it works on the first try, other times you need to click "View download history" a few times before it works.

Another thing: The download history doesn't show if they've downloaded all the required mods, it only shows one of them. This has been a known bug for a few years.

I only tried it out briefly, but it was brief because I instantly ran into something that was very jarring and uncomfortable.

I don't know if it's just me (I'm using Firefox to browse the web for clarity) but scrolling while using the Beta layout was laggy.  Like... genuinely laggy, it felt like I was scrolling at 1 FPS.  The moment I switched back to Classic it was smooth and fine as normal.  I'm not sure what would cause that, but I figured it was worth reporting for feedback purposes (and the feedback form link also isn't working.)
