spinspider Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) Well since they are sort of mutually exclusive... Which of these characters do you like better? IMHO I like Ralof 1000x better. He's charming, cheerful, and fun. Also, going with him nets you some sweet revenge on that witchy Imperial lady who tried to have your head lopped off. Plus the Legionnaires you encounter throughout the escape from Helgen drop much better loot than the Stormcloaks you encounter if you go with Hadvar. Hadvar is just a twerp and a sour grape. KanesGhost Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I prefer Hadvar as a character myself, he just seems more with it...but I also prefer killing the Torturer rather than helping him, so I tend to swing either way per game.

RatcatcherOfKvatch Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Hadvar's your friend; Ralof's your bro.
Hyacathusarullistad Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I always go with Hadvar. I detest the Stormcloaks in a way words can't really describe, and Ralof is an ignorant git.I think from a gaming perspective we're "supposed" to follow Hadvar anyway. He has his own voice, where Ralof has the generic Nord voice; and Hadvar's family is far more useful and visible than Ralof's. It always felt to me like the ability to follow Ralof was sort of tacked on after the fact, maybe to add to the illusion of choice.
DONKENFAP Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) The Stormcloak guy was a bit too intense for me. "Oh Ulfric! You're so cool! Do me up the butt before we die! I love you mwah mwah!" If me and the horse thief had not been between them... he would have spooned the poor Jarl to death. Edited January 30, 2014 by DONKENFAP
Deleted3507349User Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 My characters always follow Hadvar out of Helgen, because you get better loot for doing so. Once we're out of there it's wide open which side of the civil war the character sides with. Choosing Hadvar or Ralof in Helgen doesn't affect anything with the civil war quest line.
CaffeinatedOrange Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I like how the OP has much to say about Ralof but just two words for Hadvar. Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me; they both exist for the same purpose and do the same things, but Ralof is a Stormcloak, and because of his allegiance to Ulfric, I do not favor him. It's a shame, but he strikes me as being rather brainless and too willing to follow and act without question. And if you do the Stormcloak line for the Civil War, he's... well, just as generic as any other soldier; at least Hadvar has some lines that give him a bit of personality to him.
