Or at least a bit more clear than EULAs...
Dark0ne
I installed Open Office a few years back after losing my MS Office CDs and found it was practically identical. The only annoying thing was that it saved to ODT format instead of DOC as standard. Hardly an application breaker, but for all intents and purposes it was a very satisfactory replacement. A dream with its own protocols and commodities, Netbios against TCP/IP. Were MS to succeed there and it's domain would be absolute. That MSN dream was what put IE so behind Netscape when, finally, she saw she could not prevent a world wide web outside her control and led to the 'controversial' way to make things. Oh yes, MS lost in almost all court cases she was involved, but not before effectively killing opposition and concurrence... But this is hijacking the thread and, maybe, knowing something about the past may help to understand the present and look into the future. Several years ago some memoranda leaked from ms, with high level studies and planning... something that resembles much the Brain and Pinky Cartoon. they were called Halloween memos and to anyone wishing to know something about: This could be an entertaining reading Not a word more about it, not in this thread at least. Pronam
good idea... Fortunately you can save openoffice into many formats now (including .doc), although I prefer office to it. It is a great replacement when you need one though. (Shame you cannot directly open .docx with it....) Hehe, let the battle begin, we're the ones that are going to profit from it :D. TheTerminator2004
Does anyone know a good alternative to outlook express, and one compatible for linux. witch openoffice does not have. There are loads, just search for email in the package repository (assuming your distribution has one), and select any which sound interesting. Two of the best ones I believe are Thunderbird (which I use), and Sylpheed, but there are several other great ones too. As for this Online Office thing... I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being inferior to Google's current offering, this is MS we're talking about after all. We'll have to wait and see though, as you never know.
