Oblivion System requirements

His chip is an HT number; that doesn't mean he has a dual core processor.

Did he mention that his CPU was HT or Dual core?

He said that he had 2 CPUs, and I thought that he had misunderstod what dual core means and that he thought that he had 2 CPUs.

He doesn't say what model of Alienware Area-51m he has. It sounds like a 5500 though. I read somewhere the video card is upgradeable on the 5500. I still think that's a nice laptop. It was top of the line in mid 2003. Get a Mobility Radeon 9600 or better.

BF2 sounds pretty restricted as to which video cards it supports. I don't think Oblivion will be so exclusive. There will be plenty of settings to turn down. We may get very low FPS and frequent crashes but we won't get stupid "incompatible graphics" dialogs.

  • 1 month later...

Know this is thread necro, but my questions relevant. I am running a:

PC specs (or what I know)

-Pent 4 2.8 ghz \ 512K \ 533 mhz (no idea what me ram is)

-PC2700 \ 512MB DDR333 upgrade

-Maxtor 120GB ATA133 17200 rpm (no idea)

-Windows XP pro

Card specs

-ATI Radeon X850 Pro (changed just recently from an ASUS GeForce FX 5200)

DirectX 9.0C OpenGL 2.0 support with 256MB GDDR memory

Is this good enough for Oblivion? If it can run Doom III (and I have Chronicles of Riddick: EFBB which uses the same engine, so in theory I can run Doom III) it should be able to run Oblivion, right? (Famous last words).

PS: the delay is bunk, I was all excited that it would be out in December, but looks like I'll have to wait till spring.

and as we know "April is the cruelest month..."

No, absolutely not. You'll be lucky to run it at one frame per month, if you can even get the game to load. You should send that obsolete pile of junk to me so I can properly dispose of it, and buy a new one.

You'll be fine with that system.

The video card will probably hold up fine, but the amount of memory is a bit iffy. Of course, I cannot comment on the processor as I've given up entirely on trying to decode Intel marketing BS; it looks like the memory is running completely unsynchronized with the FSB, but it's equally likely that Intel is flat-out lying about the FSB frequency.

Looks fine to me. Apart from the RAM, as has been said. I recommend getting another 1 or 2 sticks of 512 MB DDR, 400mhz preferrably. They come pretty cheap nowadays.

As a complete noob to anything other than MW lore, you guys kick. I can barely play Baldur's gate on my lurvely computer right now (the lag is pathetic), and it running on it's last limb. I only wonder, can any of you recommend any sites you have had great success using, with which I may order a new computer? I'd dearly appreciate it.

Depends on your budget :)

If you're uber-loaded then you should get an Alienware; 'twill be the envy of all your friends and will run Oblivion in max detail (I should think). www.alienware.com is where youi need to go.

If you're less loaded (like the rest of us), you could build your own (if you've get "da skillz" :P) or get a pre-made one from some sites. www.ebuyer.com does some, but I don't know how good they are as I've never taken a proper look at them.

I'm sure others on here will be able ot advise you better though. Good luck finding the PC for you :)
