Poopdawg
Who knows where I can download 3D Studio Max for free?
ThetaOrionis01
Downloading the full version of 3Ds max is illegal, and I very much hope your post was not advocating software piracy. IIRC, you can download a trial version of 3Ds max from the developers' website, or you can opt for GMax, which AFAIK is free (unlike 3Ds max). Abramul
Since this is in the MW forum, it should probably be mentioned that the NIF plugin isn't available for the latest version. Peregrine can provide more details. Another, cheaper option is Milkshape. It has a 30-day free trial, after which registration is USD 25. Download it here. You'll also want the Milkshape NIF Exporter (most of the way down the page).
Sypron
how much does milkshape cost, and how long do you get 3Dsmax for on a trial?
Peregrine
how much does milkshape cost, and how long do you get 3Dsmax for on a trial? 30 days, but only the latest version is available for the trial. So you won't be able to use the export plugin. or you can opt for GMax, which AFAIK is free (unlike 3Ds max). It's free, but that's still too high a price. It's a horrible program, a lot of the features have been stripped out, and it uses a different file format to prevent commercial use. So it's useless unless you're working with one of the few games that has a gmax export plugin. Not surprisingly, Morrowind isn't one of them. hundinman
but one good thing about Gmax is that u can get a lot of practice.......but then again 3ds does work a lil differently but it can still help you get into the modeling mode. i say try the GMAX version. it was a little fun for me for a while. and also dl the Rhino trial version. it works real good. u can have it as long as you like but u can only save like 15 or 30 things. Slaiv
If you're a student, opt for the discounted 3dsMax. It's only about $600. That is, if you can find it.

Slaiv
still how much is milkshape, it's the only one i might consider thinking about possibly buying.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>In $US, its like 32.13. But if you plan on making anything that looks better than what was available in 2000, I'm not so sure I'd go with Milkshape. Get Blender - it's Peregrine recommended, and its totally free.
