I'm so surprised at the cost of DVD recorders. I would have thought that they would have reduced in price. I need to get rid of a pile of stuff off my satalite box so want to invest in a dvd recorder. Problem is they are still over £150 which I'm amazed at.

All I want to do is record some films onto DVD disks...

I picked up Forza: Horizon today, I've been waiting for a good car collecting/racing game for a while...

...and still am. I honestly can't pan this game enough, it's shockingly bad. Microsoft has tried to raise more money by trying to rope in casual driving gamers, while throwing a few chew-toys to appease the fans. It doesn't work though because the game's so boring casuals won't give a damn, and the chew-toys are so tokenistic that hardcores won't give a damn either. They've traded away absolutely everything good about the series in favour of mass-market appeal and the result is a nearly unplayable horror.

In the good old days Forza was to the Xbox what Gran Turismo was to the Playstation: a serious, hardcore driving sim that made you learn, study, and think. It was as much a technical sim as a game, and this made it very popular. As time progressed, Forza became more and more equal with Gran Turismo, until finally Forza 4 was vaguelly comparable with GT5, albeit still the underdog. Sadly Forza 5 is actually an arcade racer, and feels so much like a Need For Speed game when you're driving it, that if you added a nitro button and changed the UI, it would literally look and drive sufficiently like Hot Pursuit to fool most fans of that game. The game has a nearly infinite fountain of faults, from the fact that all through free-roam it badgers you to get back to the driving missions(can't be turned off) to the sexist bullcrap, with all female characters being dumb flirts in short skirts(and only one lady driver, who is at the very bottom of the barrel anyway)

Seriously, I can see why Microsoft tried to appeal to the casual market, since most console hardcore racers are PS3 diehards, but the end product is so unspeakably bad and generic that I really can't justify or conscience telling anyone to play it. It's truly an aweful game; you could have Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit for about a quater of the price, and it's a much better game, or DIrT ShowDown, also an arcade racer, and have a blast. Both have waaay more pure funfactor, more user friendliness, and both have more replayability-Forza, with options to buy cars, pay-real-money-to-win buffs and cheats on literally every screen, just can't hold a candle against either of them, let alone a torch. A true fail.

EDIT: I've been a national record holder in six different games, was rated in the world top 100 for the last two DIrT games, and have been playing them heavily since 1999, I also have a racing licence IRL, and some amateur racing experience. I know my games and I know a good one, I also know a failure when I see one.
