You're right; I've seen a kitten grow up while living with her mom, and the two became best friends and would groom each other sometimes, but never snuggled like this. My mother cat (who's now been adopted by a neighbour) had a wonderful litter of kittens. We kept two and she eventually became very aggressive towards them. I then got NinjaKitty who adopted them and they adore each other. Sleep on my bed and groom and love each other without a shadow of a doubt. Strange or what.
