Stargate and Stargate Atlantis

As those of you with Sky or cable of some kind will know (or if your'e in the US, in which case you've alread seen the whole of the two new seri - post any spoilers and I'll hunt you down) the new seri of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis have just started. And is it just me, or have they totally wiped out the opposition?

First off, cast. In SG1 we now have the main man Ben Bowder from Farscape (now finished I think, I watched some TV movie that was fairly definite :/ ); the ever-so-pretty Claudia Black from the same series, although I think she's only doing a couple of shows rather than being a regular; and the hot woman from Andromeda who was the computer. Taking the best of the rest - oh yes!

And then there's the budgets. Paramount or whoevers in charge of turning out shows must be racking (sp?) it in from DVD sales and the like, and it shows in the effects and overall high-budgetness on display in the opening episodes. The space battles in the overlapping Atlantis episodes were nothing short of movie quality, rivalling the opening in Star Wars III in everything but length (although the end space shootout in Serenity was better than anything I've seen) and the other snazzy effects must be fairly expensive. They've even got as a regular (i think :/) an animatronic alien which must be a bit pricey.

So, the purpose of this post? Apart from showing that I am, in fact, an enormous geek, is that I'm wondering if Paramount are trying to kill the competition. There's been nothing new released that I've head of, apart, obviously, from Firefly (DAMN YOU FOX DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!). It seems to me that Stargate has the sci-fi audience pretty much to itself. Good thing? You decide.

Jesus what a geek I am...... *goes and cries into his lifesize cutout of Captain Picard (not really!)*

*Smacks wrist* Whoops, forgot Battlestar (this is now the point at which everyone comes up with new programmes, proving me to be, in the venacular, a bit of a prat).

I guess I forgot it because I never got into it - it clashed with something or other that the other people in my house found vitally important that they had to watch. Saw the first couple of episodes though and it looked pretty good, although I dunno how the storyline panned out. They doing any more series? (What is the pural and singular? Seri and series?? :/ )

There's also The 4400, and Lost to consider in the sci-fi line of things. They're both on Sky at the moment and are pretty damn good. ^^

But yeah, SG-1 and Atlantis definitely blow the others out of the water IMO. :D

Just too bad they brought Star Trek: Enterprise, and consequently the whole Star Trek series for the time being, to such a lame finish.

I attempted to watch Battlestar Galactica but it seemed incredibly corny, no offense. I may just have caught it at a bad moment I guess. :P

I enjoy Lost, I hardly watch any television, but I got kind of hooked to that show...the first season was good anyway. Unfortunately those kinds of "waiting to be rescued" shows grow a bit tiresome after a while...but we will see.

I don't bother with the new Battlestar Galactica. I liked the original series much too much.

Except when they found earth...then it started to stink a bit.

Lost is sci-fi?? I've completely ignored it on the basis that my sister likes it therefore it must be bad - this is a system of logic practiced by millions of people, trust me.

I wasn't around for the original Battlestar although I have seen a fair bit on cable channels and such. The ones when they're at Earth really DO stink.

I've missed out on The 4400 because it didn't look like my sort of thing, I'm more of a "blow stuff up, score with some alien" kind of sci-fi guy. Must be why the Original Series is the best of the lot in my view :cool2: .

Just too bad they brought Star Trek: Enterprise, and consequently the whole Star Trek series for the time being, to such a lame finish.

Who bought Star Trek, the guys who do Stargate?? Hmm, guess its not just huge budgets and stealing stars thats making SG-1 and Atlantis top of the charts then :P I didn't see all of the second or first series of Enterprise but the stuff with the alien Nazis (what the hell?) looked a bit rubbish in the adverts. Too bad - the films have been getting progressively worse as well *waves bye to the once-great Star Trek franchise*

Yep. It is sci-fi, sort of. It's very good IMO. :P

Umm no-one bought em. I was just saying they brought (different word) the series to a lame finish. :D

Enterprise was, IMO, actually getting vaguely good towards the end, ironically; whereas the earlier seasons failed to really grip me. The films aren't bad, but I don't think they're very popular so I doubt they'll do any more.
