arkady707
i want to know if anyone role-plays or is it a nerd/geek thing?
Eshenaleros
everybody roleplays in some way, especially when playing a role-playing game. sure, sometimes you miught break character and kill a random innocent (or help a random innocent, if your an evil character) but in general people know what they want their character to be like in the beginning of the game and lean towards that. someone who mastered alchemy by level 7 because he was selling his potions to merchants? money grubbing weasel. shirtless warrior who couldn't care less what damage he takes? rage filled barbarian. no matter what you play as, it's the mindset you put yourself into that determines whther your roleplaying or not, and it's almost impossible not to put yourself into that mindset for a lot of people
ipegot
troll is obvious? oblivion is a role playing game though the role playing mostly goes on in your head in this respect. If you get into your character, or don't do things in game for some various reason. (Like not doing the Dark Brotherhood cause your character isn't a murderer) then you are role playing. People role play all the time and never think to call it that. Especially these days, role playing isn't limited to the "nerdy" or "geeky". I hardly think I look like the "typical" gamer or pen and paper rpg player but I think games like Dungeon's and Dragons are a lot of fun. The more these things proliferate through culture the less you can stereotype what makes a typical nerd or geek since those things that defined that type of individual become more commonly accepted as norms. :P
David Brasher
I sort of think that since Oblivion is a role-playing game, you can't play it unless you are willing to roleplay. There was an implied insult in the original post. RolePlayers == Nerds || Geeks. OblivionPlayers == RolePlayers. Therefore: OblivionPlayers == Nerds || Geeks. Since you are posting this on an Oblivion forum, I bet you have played Oblivion. So you probably fall into the same category as all the rest of us and can be called the same names. SavageArtistry
Well I don't take it as a troll comment. I know I'm a nerd. http://savageartistry.darkbb.com/users/74/52/47/smiles/430651.gif Nerdiness/geekiness doesn't really have anything to do with rpg's. It's being exceptionally interested in and extremely good at one particular thing, just like there are science nerds, math nerds, and my favorite consumer-advocate nerd Clark Howard. katashy
Well, I'm a geek, and I role-play... alot. But I wouldn't say it was for geeks. People RP all the time without knowing they are. Example: You're playing an RPG, it's a role-playing game. By creating a custom character, choosing skills and doing quests, you are RPing. There are people who aren't "Geeky" or "Nerdy" who play RPGs, and they still RP. Anyway, reading that back, I realise that doesn't make sense... AncientSpaceAeon
Technically, NO. Why, because Oblivion is a Role-Playing game. Really, on my opinion, most game is role-playing. If you are playing Call of Duty, then you role-play as a soldier. If you play Halo, then you role-play as Master Chief. If you play a RTS. Because most games, we are playing roles !!! MalachiDelacot
Well, I'm a geek, <snip> Hey, no fair. I never was able to make it to Geekdom. Had to settle for being a Nerd (sniff) But I blinded them with science.... Anybody that doesn't role play Oblivion may as well trash it and go play Serious Sam. puddington
Man I roleplay something fierce. Once I create the concept for a character, I do my best to stick to it even if other options open themselves. My paladin won't rob somebody's house for base profit, my witch is just using the mages guild to get at their magetallow candles.
SpacemanSpIiff
There is nothing wrong with Roll playing, Hell, my character Evelynne comes from a roleplay that Ive been a part of.
