I'll post the fan-chosen features in this part of the thread.

 

Now, to explain why me and not Bethesda: They've got their hands full; furthermore, I'm merely "hosting" this poll and thread, while the fans do the actual debating. Still, why am I so special, that this thread must be the sole decision of the fans? Who's to say that I'm the only one, or the first? In fact, so as to make sure that all recognition of the desire for the MMO from the fans is well-renowned, I'm adding some hyperlinks to other threads of a very similar belief:

Okay, so what do you guys want for the MMO? As far as this thread is concerned, we're debating the new features--we're not necessarily asking for the MMO itself, though a number of us may reply with this, which is the only case of whether or not this is asking for the MMO.

The creation team needn't be Bethesda, though if not, they (the team in question) will need the rights to it, or a copy of the rights, or however that would work.

I don't think there should be one, Fallout is a single player experience and all the better for it. Anyway I wouldn't touch an Bethesda Fallout MMO after what they did to Interplay.

As MMOs go within the current generation and implementation... It simply would not work.

 

A Fallout MMO would not translate to a simplistic hotkey-driven skill system that the vast majority of MMOs have used in some way due to fact that it lacks any clearly identifyable active combat skills. Magic, or atleast high technology is one of the main requirements for this sort of thing to even make sense.

 

Working it as a large scale FPS like Planetside 2 would probably be a little closer to a decent platform, but quickly enters into a wide assortment of very serious design issues. First of all, in being a large scale FPS, you need some very robust servers which can handle the world load of a few thousand players in one area while still being able to handle proper hit scan and collision detection... Since nobody would want to play a Fallout themed arena style shooter. Second, and as a departure from FPS games, you would need to have all those other elements that people would expect from a post-apocalyptic world, including NPCs, hostile wildlife, scavenging, ruins to explore, and some sort of justification for why players would be shooting eachother... Given that these two things bring in totally different players and playstyles, it would be sheer hell to balance and work so that neither group is left wanting.

 

It doesn't matter who would be making it, they would have their work cut out for them in trying to do something different than existing MMOs, and therefore would have doubly as much difficulty getting funding to make it happen without having to cave in and just do a shallow shooter or turnbased MMO.
