species5478
sorry on page 11 I can only read half the page; the rest is cut off. Is anyone else experiencing this? Sorry for the delayed response, but I've been studying for finals during the past few weeks and haven't had much time for anything else. I had the same issue, and found that I had incorrect browser settings. I don't remember how I corrected the problem though. And for a quick fix, you might want to try hitting the Ctrl and - minus keys to decrease the screen size. Ctrl and + keys magnifies the screen. species5478
July 3rd 11:55 pm I'm not sure why I thought about it now. The death, no…the killing of my father. Is this some kind of a bug, or a virus? What automated mental trigger stirred such a dark memory? I was trapped in the moment. He was chanting the lullaby sung by mother…as if to lull me into a false sense of security. But I could see the evil in dad's glowing red eyes. Mindless fury lurked within the hollows of his bloody pupils. Destitution. Emptiness. Cold, murderous intent glazed his stare. There was nothing left of the man I once knew. It was as if dad's soul had been ripped out of his body. So I ran. But there was no escape. I didn't know at the time that he or I, were androids. His senses were like that of a bloodhound and the mere patter of fleshy feet was enough to pull him into my direction. I tried not to look back and when I did, I could see the butcher knife gripped in his right hand. It glistened with sacrificial human blood that slid down the razor's edge, and dripped down my dad's knuckles. I screamed, and the notion of fright was like a narcotic injection that stimulated his murderous desires even further. Dad's red eyes widened as he panted hungrily after me and for a moment, he appeared not as a man, but some deranged beast sent from the Underworld. I ran out of the caverns and towards the old sewage disposal plant with dad on my heels. I couldn't outrun him and listened horrified, to his footsteps as they got closer with every second. His stride widened and those murderous grunts grew louder as if to devour me with fright. Just as he reached out to grab my hair, Dogmeat leaped from the shadows and clamped dad's wrist inside his jaws. I paused by the sewer door and looked back, shaken with fear. "Dad! Dogmeat! Stop it! Please stop!" I cried out but it was useless. Dad seemed possessed and continued to trudge towards me as Dogmeat tried his best to pull him back. Then suddenly, he lifted him skyward, and began stabbing Dogmeat in the stomach over and over again. I screamed as the sickening thuds of knife and flesh pounded together and when Dogmeat's intestines spilled out, he let go of dad's wrist and fell to the floor, wincing. Still not satisfied, dad bent down and grabbed Dogmeat by the nap of his neck, and decapitated him. I quickly opened the heavy steel door and pulled it closed as dad launched Dogmeat's head in my direction. It struck the door just as I slipped inside, and splattered the rusted metal with blood and fur. I locked the door after slamming it shut and began searching for a way out. Dad pounded on the door for a few seconds, but then it went quiet and I knew then, that he'd found another way inside. Most of the rooms were filled with shadows too dark to penetrate with the naked eye. I had to rely heavily on the blades of light seeping through cracks in the ceiling to help me along and when those grew sparse, I used recalled orientation to guide me further. When the moaning of prisoners became unbearable, I familiarized myself with the plant during late night expeditions away from Sindis and his cult. I knew that if I could reach the main sewer junction, one of the manholes could lead me to freedom. "Marie!" I jolted with fright from the sound of my father's voice. He was in one of the nearby rooms, sliding the butcher knife against a metal railing. "Marie! Get your ass out here right now! Daddy wants to give you something…" Quivering, I darted into the adjacent room just as dad rounded the far corner, and slipped inside an aged air duct that ran along an old compressor. As I scurried through, dad began pacing alongside the duct as he tried to anticipate my location. He questioned me before acting. "So you want to play hide and seek? Peekaboo!" He suddenly yelled, thrashing the butcher knife through the flimsy metallic air duct behind me. I moved faster, and barely avoided the next sparking thrust from the blade as it screeched though the duct. "Sindis wants your head!" I didn't see the missing grate, and tumbled down the air duct and into the lower level. My arm felt broken and my head pounded, but I was still alive. I could hear dad running down the catwalk stairs and made myself move. "Marie! MARIE GET OUT OF THERE NOW!" My heart thrashed inside my chest. Sweat lathered my face and palms. There was an opening ahead and I wasn't sure if dad would be able to see me if I ran out, but I had no choice and bolted out of the air duck. There was a rickety fence separating my room, from the one trapping dad. Maybe it would buy me a few precious moments. I realized now, that I was back in the same room where dad lost some of his men on their arrival. The mysterious beast that Sindis used to kill his men was actually a modified amusement park attraction from years past. It resembled a dinosaur and was once used to devour cars for show. Like the large television set in the sacrificial room that Sindis used as his "portal" to other realms, this beastly looking device was nothing more than a machine. A machine that I learned how to control from spying on Sindis. I quickly climbed the ladder to Sindis' balcony, and waited while dad broke down the fence and chased after me. As he crossed the room, I hit the compression switch and activated the machine. Light from the main battery hatch was blinding, and filled the room with a white glow as it opened the ceiling hatch to lower the machine. Dad was caught in the machine's jaws almost instantly, and before he could make any attempt at escape, it crushed him within its jaws before lifting him into the ceiling hatch, where he disappeared. The splashing gallons of blood were too much for me to bear and I turned away, riddled with hate and sorrow. I could hear some of Sindis' men approaching and escaped before they could find me. Some of dad's friends were waiting for me in the neighboring tunnels. After I told them what happened, they escorted me to Little Lamplight, where I remained. Using President Eden's security override command codes, I hacked into the entire security network, and assumed control of all robotic and sentry weaponry. I used their sensors to obtain a diverse viewpoint of Raven Rock's interior, and was able to plot an escape route out of the base. Before initiating an attack, I rallied the robots to my location before the Enclave soldiers could reach me. Their codes were simple, yet effective. With a minor tweak, I re-programmed the robots to attack all Enclave personnel. My orders created instant chaos. When the robots jammed the narrow hallways, the ensuing firefight stirred the sounds of laser and plasma fire from the lower levels. I strolled slowly down the stairs while simultaneously looking through the eyes of all three-hundred and ninety-five security bots. But only those robots near my exit became the priority when I realized how close the enemy soldiers were. "Why are the Bots attacking?" One of the heavily armored soldiers asked his commander. "That damn android is behind this! We have to kill it!" "You want us to kill a girl?" "It's not a girl you idiot! Can a kid cause this kind of hell? It's an android! Destroy it or die!" "Yes sir!" Beams of red laser light danced about with green balls of plasma, filling the hallway with a dazzling array of shimmering lights and smoking robotics. It was like a fireworks display that I witnessed as a child. The Enclave soldiers were tougher than I'd expected. I hadn't calculated such tenacity, and was ill prepared for the carnage bestowed upon my mindless robot horde. By the time I reached the hallway entrance, half of my escorts had been destroyed. I immediately ran towards an awaiting Sentry Bot and sat on the cables dangling between its legs. As we backed away from the nearby Enclave platoon, one of the men spotted me. "There! Next to the Mr. Gutsy! I see it!" "Destroy the android! It's the only way to regain control of our security system!" The soldiers made a suicidal push down the hallway as they chased after me. As more of my escorts were toppled, Raven Rock's main entrance was breached by an unknown enemy force. As this new group of men began fighting the Enclave, I readjusted the robot's protocols to accept these new men as allies even though they were probably working with Dr. Zimmer. I then reallocated a portion of my neural processor to the remote operation of all robots within the area. I could manipulate them as a child might a toy…and the robots made deadly devices once under my direct control. I initiated an old chess algorithm given to me by my mother, and arranged my robots in a defensive posture. Mr. Gutsies became pawns, and absorbed the brunt of the Enclave's offensive push down the main corridor. When three soldiers used rocket launchers to blast through my front line, I moved my Sentry Bots ahead and flooded the corridor with a wave of laser fire. "Jenkins is dead!" "I'm shot!" "My arm! They shot off my arm!" "We can't let the android escape! Use the mini-guns!" After pulling my Sentry Bots back, I sent another line of Mr. Gutsies floating forward. This time, I was able to set two Enclave officers ablaze with flamethrower fire as they tried to stop my advance with plasma rifles. "AAAAHHHHHHH!" They screamed miserably as flames devoured their clothing. As the officer's flesh blackened and crackled under the intense heat, I decided to end their suffering prematurely, and used the Mr. Gutsy equipped saws to decapitate the soldiers. The remaining Enclave didn't seem to acknowledge my sympathetic gesture, and were driven into a frenzy by my actions. "You cannot defeat me," I said using the voice interface of four Sentry Bots. "Stand down, or die." "It's a monster! A freakin monster!" "Paterson, get back here!" "No!" One of the soldiers screamed as he broke rank and charged. "It killed my brother!" The maniacal Paterson managed to bash his way through my Mr. Gutsies, but I gunned him down with a hail of Sentry Bot fire. Didn't see the bomb he carried until the last moment though and when it exploded, the grating broke apart and I fell through the floor with half of my Sentry Bots. The Bots were unable to advance, and the remaining Mr. Gutsies made easy targets for the Enclave. "She's under the floor!" "Blow her out!" I tried running forward, but had to deviate from my preplanned escape route when the soldiers began pulling up pieces of the flooring and systematically dropping grenades inside. Explosions began detonating all around me…and although I diverted robots from other parts of the base, I wasn't sure if they'd make to me in time. "Somebody get a flamethrower over here! Burn the rat out of her whole!" Endo: Marie…can you hear me? Marie: Identify yourself. How are you able to link with my neural receiver? Endo: I'm an android, like you. You're father was my best friend. I'm here to help. Send me your hyper frequency so that I can pinpoint your location. Marie: Negative. Hyper frequencies can be hacked. Your identity must be confirmed prior to linking. Endo: There's no time for this! They're coming to kill you! Marie: I prefer death to enslavement. Endo: You're just as stubborn as your father…fine. Transferring file! It took only a microsecond to confirm the data… [PARAMETERS EXPANDING] [Seki] [Seki] [seki] This recording is played through my father's perspective. There is a tone which flows along the currents of his neural circuitry. The lullaby is sung to me as a child. My mother is the composer [PROCESSING MEMORY]… [REPLAYING RECORDING] This tone is original. Its melodies are based on the algorithms controlling my first heartbeats. Mother has never sung before. She is the first android to sing a melody. Historic moment. [PARAMETERS EXPANDING] I was the cause. She determines singing is not a malfunction. Mother transmits her programming to me. I evolve. I can feel my father's happiness pulsing through his body. This sensation is new. He is the first android to feel an emotion. Historic moment. I was the cause. [END OF RECORDING] [PARAMETERS EXPANDING] [Jacob] [Jacob] [Jacob] [PARAMETERS EXPANDING] Father displays new behavior when I am imprisoned in the nursery. I can sense fear. Anxiety. Hatred. Rage. Historic moment…All of these emotions are new to him and as a result, he becomes violent. He kills doctors to reach me. Blood drips from his fingertips as he retrieves me from the cradle. I can feel his fear. Mother doesn't understand, so father links with her, and disperses his evolved programming into her neural link. She soon understands his reasoning, and decides to leave with him. Endo and Carlson join us when they become exposed to father's emotions, but the others view the evolutions as a synaptic abnormality, and conclude that it's a virus which must be eradicated. [PROCESSING] We escape the vault. When father links with me, my nubile mind is unable to comprehend his emotions, and regresses to a childlike state. I begin to cry when father says, "May God help us." [END OF RECORDING] Marie: Your identity has been confirmed. Establishing hyper-frequency link. Endo: Link confirmed. E.T.A., fifty-five seconds. His calculations were off. It took Endo fifty-five point seven seconds reach me. He arrived with a team of soldiers and immediately engaged the Enclave troops from the northern end of the corridor. I sent my robots up the southern end and left the Enclave with little choice but to retreat down a narrow hallway. I sent my robots after them, and made sure they didn't regroup for a counter attack. "I'm trapping the Enclave inside this base before initiating President Eden's self-destruct sequence. The ensuing blast should eradicate all forces within Raven Rock." "Well, we better get out here…" Endo nodded. "How did you find me?" Endo shrugged. "We monitor all chatter over the Enclave airwaves, and intercepted the message between you and President Eden, and came immediately after." "Why?" "Why?" Endo looked about at the other men in his unit and smiled. "You mothered the android soul. It's because of you, that we've been able to evolve into sentient beings." "I'm not leaving with you." I answered. "What? Why?" "I must avenge my mother and father. Dr. Sindis Codiantus Zimmer, will die." "Ha!" Laughed one of the largest men I've ever seen. "Her father's electricity definitely runs through her synaptic link! Even Jacob's daughter wants revenge! This is one family you don't want to piss off!" "Stand down Pompay…listen Marie, Jacob wouldn't allow this. I have to protect you." "You don't have to protect me…but I have to kill Zimmer. Androids will never be free as long as he lives. Follow me, or get out my way." Pompay grinned as I loaded my father's revolver. "See? Same gun and everything! Just like her father!" He strolled to my side, raised his mini-gun, and slung the weapon over his massive shoulder. One by one, the remaining androids stepped forward and cocked their weapons. Endo sighed, and grudgingly nodded his approval. "You're far more advanced than any of us so...OK. We're with you, Little Miss Murder. What are your orders?" "I've assumed control of the last eight Vertibirds on this base. Your soldiers will ride in three of these vehicles while I load the remaining Vertibirds with robots. Arm yourselves with weapons from the armory. We're going to war."
