BOSS or Better Obilivion Sorting Software

At one time, there was a page for BOSS with a link to the download page. Lately, I have been unable to locate the page using the search terms "BOSS" and "Better Obilivion Sorting Software". I find this strange since just about everyone here recommends using BOSS to set your load order. I guess my question is, what happened?

I think the BOSS pages were technically breaking TOS since they did not have any files to download.

  • Insure you upload a file for your file entry as soon as possible. Do not create "placemarkers" or "Work-in-progress" pages for files that are incomplete or you havent even created yet. If uploading a file will take a long time or youre not ready yet then keep your file set to Hidden until you are ready. Do not deliberately create a file page without uploading any files just to generate hype or interest in your work; it will get you banned (uploading a text document with your ideas will not get around this issue). Do not upload help me with this mod files: such content should be hosted on a third-party download site (e.g. mediafire) and the help request should be posted on the forums in the appropriate section.

I cannot find them so they may have simply been removed. It will require a moderator to check and see what has actually happened and share what information they may be able to.

In the meantime, you can obtain BOSS from the official download page: http://boss-developers.github.io/

The use of a "mirror" to host a file is allowed here. But there does have to be an actual working link to the actual working file.

(And the fact that one has to use the mirror site should be made clear in the Description so as to reduce the number of false alarm "No file" Reports. )

Thank you for the fast response, however, it does not address my original question. What happened to the page in the mods forums that had the mirror for B.O.S.S. Given the name, I would have thought it would still appear in the Obilivion forum. I was not even able to find it there. Using "BOSS" or "Better Obilivion Sorting Software" as a search term produced a lot of results, but not the correct one.

BOSS is being moved to a new site

http://boss-developers.github.io/

My guess is the links on Nexus will be updated soon.

There is a new version in beta testing It will be renamed to Load Order Optimizing Tool (LOOT) the program has been rewritten to make it better and have some new features.

I believe wrinkly took it down as it was a pain to manage.

Out of interest, do people see a need for a BOSS nexus page? Is it easier to track the program here on the nexus or is there a benefit to having a page here?

edit: also is this the right subforum?

Honestly, there is no need for a BOSS or LOOT page on the Nexus. You cannot download the program with NMM. As a result there is no notification inside NMM that the program has been updated. Unless someone remembers to track the file, they get no notification at all. Better to just have BOSS and/or LOOT notify the end user every so often whenever there has been an update and direct them to the git download.

I suppose the only real advantage to having a BOSS or LOOT page on the Nexus is to get the attention of those users that do not visit BethSoft to see the official release thread, that do not read the forums, that only use the Nexus to obtain their mods and utilities.

The new people often have no clue where to get these programs such as BOSS or Wrye Bash or SKSE. They also don't realize there are such things as mirrors for them, and the concept of actually searching using Google is alien to their mindset - we allow place holders with whatever description the author wants to post along with a link to their site just for that purpose. I am assuming that they just haven't gotten around to setting one up for each Nexus game supported yet.
