Czyzman
I usually like to dig around for a solution on the forums/google for my difficulties, as it usually works. However I've literally been searching and trying everything imaginable for 2 DAYS to get these to function properly, and I have come back empty handed. Apparently my Skyrim game works fine with mods, as long as they are listed in the 'data files' section of the launcher, and are checked off before launching the program. I have done everything I can think of to get the mods that DO NOT show up in that list to load or even have an effect on the game at all. I moved the steam folder outside of the 'program files', I've made sure the .ini's aren't read only, made sure the lines which are needed are in them, and ran everything as an administrator. I've installed the mods manually multiple times, and with the NMM multiple times. The game always loads, and has nothing changed from the base game (other than the ones 'data file' list, but I have turned them off after confirming they work OK). I've taken ALL of the mods OFF (exceptions being SKSE, and the patches for it), completely deleted them from the skyrim directory, and reinstalled just one texture/mesh replacer mod. No changes to the game at all. I'm hoping this is one simple, stupid solution that I am overlooking, but the fact that me searching for multiple hours on end for a solution, and having turned up nothing makes me think otherwise. I've modded other games in the past without any issues at all, so I have a decent concept of it compared to the average joe, but this is my first crack at Skyrim. Thanks in advance. Deleted5042840User
In a normal situation when you install a Texture/Mesh mod it will simply overwrite the Vanilla files. The game will then use these new files instead. I don't see how it's possible to have Texture/Mesh mods installed but not have an effect in the game unless the game is using the Vanilla files from another location. MasterChitlin
Generally texture and mesh replacers do not need a plug in file to work (a check box in data list) if they are replacing something that already exists in game. I'm curious to know what textures / meshes exactly you are trying to replace. Could be you are not putting them in the right folder if you are installing things manually or if you are using an installer perhaps you are missing a required mod to be installed first? (Like a texture replacer for a certain piece of armor will have no effect if you do not have the mod that actually installs the armor). Give more specific examples of what textures you are trying to replace etc...
Jeir
Three things to try: 1. Move your entire Steam folder out of Program Files(x86) if you haven't already. This'll stop the Windows UAC from potentially messing things up.2. Toggle Archive Invalidation in NMM. Just turn it off then on again.3. Go to Documents/My Games/Skyrim, and open the Skyrim.ini. Under the 'Archives' section you may find bInvalidateOlderFiles=0. Turn the 0 to a 1, then save. If it's not there, then add the line in. Someone recently asked me about this issue, and apparently one of these worked.

Thanks in advance.Great, that you have moved Skyrim out of a UAC controlled Folder.....What IS the complete path to your Skyrim? Nice that you checked for read only..and have the proper lines in them , BUT lets be sure here. You are editing the file in ...."MY docs\MY games\Skyrim and not ..Data\Skyrim\Skyrim..? What mods?.... What are your System specs and where is skyrim located. Full path. also what is the path that the texture/mesh mod is placing?? Czyzman
Firstly let me just say that Arcane Archers method #3 did the trick. Thank you very much. I was fiddling with CBBE just as a test to see if it (as well as other mods of this type) would work. I figured since it's a body replacer (and I've read the read-me 800 times) it should work damn near instantaniously without having to rely on other mods. I guess Skyrim was just ignoring the files for some reason. I'm curious as to why. I've also been told that some mods (CBBE included) don't work on pirated versions of the game. I DID BUY THE GAME off steam, but the save I'm using came from a buddys computer, and if I know him, it was most likely a pirated Skyrim copy. I was using his computer until mine was finished being built, then copied my game over. Maybe the save tinkered with the files. Well, regardless of how/why it happened, it seems to be doing OK now. Thanks a bunch guys!
thejakeinator95
I just wanted to let everyone know that Arcane Archer's 3rd option fixed my texture problems for my mods. So for anyone out there whose mods are working EXCEPT the textures and meshes aren't showing (invisible weapons, armor, skins, etc.), I searched so long to fix it and nothing worked except this. So just "Go to Documents/My Games/Skyrim, and open the Skyrim.ini. Under the 'Archives' section you may find bInvalidateOlderFiles=0. Turn the 0 to a 1, then save. If it's not there, then add the line in."IT DOES WORK PEOPLE! Thank you so much Arcane Archer.
Jeir
Who the hell is 'Arcane Archer'? XD Anyway, as this thread's been necro'd, I learned something new I'll share: You can also just delete that line from the .ini. By default, as in, in the Skyrim_default.ini in Skyrim/data, that line is set to '1', but for some reason, since the Legendary version came out, the Skyrim.ini you find in Docs has that line set to '0', which overwrites the default state. So, er, yeah. Either change it to a '1', or delete the whole line. Both should work.
